So this past Sunday, I took him down to the Humane Society (the area's largest No Kill shelter) and we set about looking at cats to fill the hole in our house. The staff was friendly, they gave us a tour, showed us the habitat and told us the areas where the cats were housed. They advised us to be gentle and to use the alcohol gel between animals - This can be a challenge as many of the little containers are out and you have to hunt it down. I carry it on my purse (thanks Yelp!) so I was good to go. We looked in every cage, fell in love a few times, but this one fellow, Cosmo, he stole our hearts. Our old boy, Spooky was a shy fella, and cosmo was hiding when we came in but he peeked his head out and trilled at us. He was a little lovebug and let us pick him up. He was easily handled. We looked at others but came back up and made the decision that he'd be ours We met with the adoption counselor and talked about mutual expectations, and what both needed, we were a good match and Cosmo was ours. I am happy to say that every one there treated the animals with the utmost kindness and respect. You could tell that they were truly loved. Cosmo is currently adjusting to his new home and big brother, Itty. It is actually going very smoothly because his big brother is such a sook.

This dog was abandoned and found in a field with her sister when they were just 10 weeks old and Julie took them into her rescue and sprayed and vaccinated them and found forever homes for them. She is healthy and the best dog that I have ever had. I see Julie out at adoption events from time to time and she has always has amazing dogs and cats and does a great job. I totally recommend her rescue.

I think Gianna thinks she is a puppy. Or maybe it is the other way around. If you are looking to adopt, I highly recommend Royal Rescue. Julie has an amazing network of people who foster. That give homeless Mama's and their babies a chance. Gianna's Mom came in as a feral cat. And due to constant love and touch Gianna's foster Mom, Pam McDonald gave to these Mama and her babies changed the outlook of their lives forever. Gianna is the most loving kitten. When she isn't sleeping side by side with Kylo. She falls asleep on our chest and ends up on our neck. Wrapped around like a scarf. She of course came to us completely litter box trained. I apologize this review is so lengthy, but I have actually shortened it. Thank you again Julie and Pam!!! I know the work you do isn't easy and is very time consuming. But so very admirable. You are all a blessing. Love Always, Elaine Gennuso

Upon entering the shelter, you register on an ipad which sped things up. My pit bull passed away on July 20, 2018 and I was going to wait a while to adopt another one but on August 26, they had a free adoption day. I adopted Basil (formerly known as Bam Bam). I walked 5 pitties and loved each one for different reasons, but Basil was the best on leash and he was a little older so he'd be easier to deal with. The shelter socializes their adoptable dogs. They have signs on the cages like "Bam Bam loves to play with Kylie" so I was assured he was good with other dogs. The gravy was after I brought him home and he was great with my 3 cats and my roommate's dog. When I was looking at the dogs, I was allowed to take the dogs out of their kennels myself and bring them in the back to dog runs where I could let them off leash and play with them. I will definatley adopt from here again. I was lucky to get a fully vaccinated, neutered, vetted, sweet, housebroken microchipped boy for free! I fogot to mention the free starter kit - small bag of dried food, 2 tennis balls (that are now shredded), greenies and her license.

The odor in the dog area is overwhelming, reminiscent of decay, making it unbearable for visitors. My sister and I found it impossible to remain in that section due to the repugnant atmosphere. In stark contrast, the cat area was the only part that appeared to be maintained (reason for one star). It is disheartening to see the staff, many of whom were idly seated at computers, failing to address the needs of the dogs. This facility either requires immediate closure or a complete overhaul in leadership to ensure genuine care and effort are prioritized. County commissioners, your attention is urgently needed. Very sad.

Between the puppy teething bites, sled dog walks, terrorizing the mailman, and little dog ego, we knew we needed help. We called Sharon with BarkBusters, and she is an absolute game changer. At home training, No treats, No Tricks needed. Our furbaby is 6lbs of fierceness, and like his dad he wants to establish dominance in everything he does, including over our 2 cats and the entire household. In just one visit, Sharon taught us to think like a dog and how to lead the pack. Learning how to actually say NO in a language dogs understand has been groundbreaking for us. We've had dogs before, but we learned more in one session with Sharon than we did in a lifetime on our own. The future is so bright for our puppy Oliver, and we have Sharon and Barkbusters to thank for that!

We already had a well-behaved, but sensitive black lab mix. Sharon spent hours with us talking about canine psychology and working on attentiveness training. We worked with the dogs on the first visit, both at home, walking around the neighborhood, and at unfamiliar locations so we encountered another dog. The first day of training made an IMMEDIATE, huge difference; we were shocked and thrilled. The black lab was incorporated into the training too. She talked plainly with us and was realistic about interventions we would and would not be able to make for the dogs. She was awesome, we've seen lasting effects with our Staffie, and we plan on having our second session soon to follow up on our homework. Thanks Bark Busters!
