This shelter truly is a safe welcome space for all animals and it became my happy place. They make sure they have very thorough applications and standards for families that are allowed to adopt, which is essential in ensuring humans don't fail these precious animals again. I hope someday I will be able to go back to FL with the purpose of adopting a dog from the shelter.

The fostering experience started off with kind staff treating me with respect. However, shortly after starting to foster I began getting passive aggressive, and condescending messages from the lovely staff over at MFP! Furthermore, they threatened to call the cops on me because I was unable to bring the dog to an adoption event. Also, I was met with very kind words over Facebook messenger along the lines of "this is kidnapping we are calling the police". Mind you I was at work and this is after they ignored my family for about a week when we tried to adopt banner via the same group chat they so happily throw demands and condescending messages. So, after writing my 3rd review on this place. I hope they don't take it down this time, and actually try treating anyone who attempts to foster with even a sliver of decency and respect. Overall, after writing this lovely and transparent review, I leave you with a memento. Banner, I was blessed to be able to show you what a loving family looks like for the first time in your life. I hope whatever family adopts you treats you with the love and compassion that I did. On a final note, thank you MFP you guys truly helped me in pointing me IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION of your shelter. My decision is FINAL as you guys would say, so I leave you with the same condescending message you so happily left me! My decision in FINAL in never associating with your shelter again. Enjoy!

The man does not care for the welfare of the cats, just wants to make the 'board' (as he called it) happy. For the sake of the cats, I hope St. Francis finds another person for this job.

Then there was a coup and the old management was forced out and the New Management didn't want anyone to Know about the money. They continued business like they were broke. It was common practice to run volunteers from Wesley chapel to Riverview to westchase to pick up leftover meds from other volunteers rather than buy new ones or send us to a nearby vet. No respect for our time or our gas money. The last straw for me was when I needed more ringworm medicine stat. Ringworm is tough to get rid of and requires meds in a tight schedule. I'm begging (the rescue head) for more meds and she was stonewalling. Now, I'm all about saving money, but this is a $40 med. What is the problem? You have $1.5Million! When I asked (on our internal Facebook group) about the money and to see the public financial statements, I was mauled. Why all the anger? Why aren't we celebrating this money as a huge compliment of how good a job all the volunteers have done? Why am I in trouble for mentioning the money? What's wrong with asking to see the financials to find out where the money went if I am having to fight so hard to get a $40 bottle of ringworm medication? Bottom line, they can't cry poor mouth anymore when volunteers are asking for medical treatment for their fosters or ask the volunteers to pay for those things. I once paid over $200 to save one of my fosters because they dithered while I was trying to save her. For a year-and-a-half I was paying for litter and food because they didn't mention they provided it, like all the other rescues I've worked with. All we know right now about the $1.5 million is that it is invested. They continue to ask for donations. It's sad to see an organization that used to be so wonderful turn into this. Kathy worked so hard to build up that organization's reputation. A reputation so good that people gave million-dollar donations. Smh....

It all started when our cat, Emma, ran out of the house just before the Hurricane Irma hit the Clearwater, FL area. My wife and I spent days looking for her throughout the neighborhood - with very little progress though. We literally, turned Dunedin upside down looking for her. Anyway, several days after the fact our cat was missing we finally received a call from Save Our Strays, Inc., what seemed to be a call that would brighten our day - especially since our eight year old daughter had spent over a week crying her eyes out for Emma, even to the point of missing school - turned into a nightmare. The woman Linda, who placed the call to us was one of the most unprofessional people we have ever encountered. She was rude, arrogant, and certainly a "bottom of the barrel" volunteer, or employee, and even threatened to keep our cat. In fact, treated us like a criminal because out cat had gotten out of the house - who owns a cat who has never gotten out? She deliberately withheld the cat from us for several days, even after the fact of locating the owners (i.e., my wife and I). It was such a mess that my eight year old daughter demanded to have the police involved (which we were glad to do). So, while standing there in tears, my daughter was telling the officer what happened, and he was heated himself. He even pulled his phone out and called the hateful Old Bat - But go figure, she didn't answer the phone. Anyway, we finally received Emma back after the fact that Linda had sent her to a "foster home", because we apparently missed a phone call. Needless to say, she didn't show her face around Pet Smart when the exchange happened - and it's a good thing she didn't, because I was prepared for war when I walked in that place. My advice to you, is to avoid doing business with Save Our Strays, Inc., for two reasons: 1) Linda is a sorry excuse for a worker, and if they hire women or men like her they are doing a sorry job at seeking out qualified individuals with the competence required to adopt cats. 2) You may have to get the police involved, or experience high levels of stress if your cat ever runs out of the house.

After we were done talking, we ended up going to visit both the dogs, cat and rabbit section. It always breaks my heart to see all these babies. When I'm there, I always try to show as much love as I can. If you're sensitive to loud noise and barking, I would be aware that the dogs do get riled up if one of the volunteers walks in with a leash lol. The only thing I didn't like is that when we visited the guinea pigs there were kids in the, guinea pigs section unsupervised and they were picking them up left and right to the point where the guinea pigs were squealing freaking out. I did tell one of the volunteers but not sure if they were able to help the situation.

They are much more affordable than most veterinarians and especially are veterinarian. The one downside is that unless you look way ahead of time, slots available are several months out. Not expecting them to be out as far as they were , we ran into that being one of our issues because we were trying to get our girls in right around the six month mark, so they did not begin going into heat yet. Unfortunately, for Sugar she started beforehand. In the morning, Ben dropped them off for their procedures and given the time that they needed to stay with the humane society, they would be ready for pickup around the time, I was leaving work for the day which was right down the road from their location. I waited a few moments for them to go and collect the girls and when they came out they were in good spirits and extremely happy to see me which was a great sign. My little nuggets looked so sad but cute with their cones on. Once home we rested that they were eating properly. We received a phone call from the humane society the next day to Check-in on the girls and their processed just to make sure everything was good. We appreciated that. For our little girls being their smaller size , we did end up ordering little neck donuts from Amazon to exchange out with the plastic cones given to them at the humans society, just because the cones weighed them down so much, they looked very uncomfortable resting in them and that just broke our hearts. They healed wonderfully without any problems or any extra visits needed.

This location is easy to walk to if you're already checking out Hyde Park; head behind BarTaco and discover a bunch more shops just off the main road including this one! When I stopped in just before Thanksgiving, they had started to put out a few Christmas items but also still had year round toys. They also had a treat bar with various types of gnawers like duck feet, turkey necks, and more. I wish there was more info provided about the gnawers, like where they came from and their benefits (i.e. helps with tartar build up, freshens breathe, helps with teething pups, helps with shiny coat, etc.) and also that they had more of a selection of grooming items like shampoos, brushes, and nail trimmers. Furthermore, the staff NEEDS to be more engaging with their customers/potential customers. When I was in the store with my friend, there was two other people also browsing and four employees behind the register. Not ONE came up to me or the other shoppers the entire time I was in there; instead they kept chitchatting amongst themselves. I ended up getting the toy in the picture along with two jingle collars and a stuffed toy, but if there had been any guidance from the employees about the gnawers, I probably would've picked up some of those too. Additionally, pricing wasn't super clear on the toys. Not every all the toys in the bin or display had a price sticker, so you either took a chance and brought it to the register or had to dig for a hot second to find the price sticker.
