Second Chance Animal Hospital has taken care of most of my cats and have saved two of their lives with emergency surgery. Although I no longer qualify for low income services legally, their prices are still much lower and more affordable than most vet offices which makes being a stay at home mum still available to my family. They're thoughtful, thorough and very transparent. I live further away now, which makes transportation a little tricky, especially feeling quite uncomfortable in an uneasy part of town, but I still go out of my way to drive here for the best service you can imagine. As a pet owner who cares about her animals I should be able to call and get an appt within a day or two and I should not have to call everyday to find out if someone has cancelled! This will be the second time i have called for a sick visit. I called today to get an appt for my cat Koda, he had been drinking alot of water the past couple of weeks which has caused me to be concern. I had left a voicemail and when the call was returned i was told that they are booking out till August. That was not acceptable to me. I asked for a manager to call me back. She called me back and proceeded with the same answer, i could also go to urgent care or I could call in the morning, they dont answer the phone, to get a possible appt that someone else had cancelled. I understand that vets get busy but to have no appointment at all within a few days is REDICULOUS! Unfortunately i have decided to take my kitties elsewhere in hopes that my new vet will be able to take me in a reasonable amount of time when my cats are sick. I have been taking my dogs to second chance for 6 years... all along we have been very unhappy with the customer service... I even lost my 3 years old partially because of that. Three weeks ago we welcomed a 7 month old puppy to our family, she is a rescue. I called second chance, they said they will not make an appointment for her until I fax or email her papers to them... so I did! That was 2 weeks ago. I keep calling and leave a message.... so here we go again, calling and reaching out ....no response!!!! Reminded me of when I kept calling them when my Molly was in trouble. I'm done!!! Went here to find our 5 month old puppy her vet and we couldn't be more happy! The first tech was super nice and welcoming, and when the doctor came in the room it was such a good experience! Since we have a new puppy we didn't want all these suggestions on vaccines and tests, and the doctor literally gave everything as an option and didn't push anything on us: we felt comfortable and can't wait to come back for another check up since our little baby puppy (Honey) was so well-behaved and everyone loved her. read more

I love Second Chance because the staff is super friendly, they offer low cost services, and they care about the animals. We've had two miscommunications in the past which created a bit of confusion but everything else they do for my pets makes small errors just melt away. Plus because they do offer such low costs, they are extremely busy. So just keep calling or leave a message ! We brought our 6 month old kitten to Second Chance for spaying through a recommendation from our veterinarian. Second Chance does low cost spaying and neutering from grants and donations. From what I understand Petsmart is one of their largest contributors. I brought my kitten in at 7:50 am, there was a bunch of people dropping off kitties that morning. Everything was very organized. They had clipboards all set out for you to fill out, you brought it to the desk when you filled it out. They go over it, take your kitties immunization record, take your payment, put your cats name on your pet carrier and tell you to be back at 3:30 pm. I returned at 3:30, they go over the after care in a group setting so they don't have to do each cat individually. Then they pass out cats in their carrier. I brought kitty home and she was pretty sleepy the rest of the day. She was completely back to her old mischievous self the next day. Our experience with Second Chance was wonderful. So happy to have a place that does low cost spaying and neutering ($80. for kitten spay). The whole staff was great and everything was very efficient. I would definitely go there again. read more

I made an appointment for a distemper vaccine for my senior cat, online. Day of appointment, I show up and they take him back and they were told "distemper only" The tech comes out with a rabies certificate, saying he didn't have one on file so they gave him one and he will have to come back for the distemper. My cat is around 13yrs old, and receiving two rabies vaccines within two weeks could have horrible side effects, and maybe even worse. When I asked to speak to the vet, Michelle, she came out guns blazing with zero compassion for me at all. They could have simply just opened the door the the exam room and asked for rabies confirmation. I would have been more than happy to provide the paperwork, even if it meant me returning another day for his distemper vaccine. While I feel silly for not bringing the rabies paperwork(it was not requested and since it's a law, I assumed it would be searchable) I feel this was negligent on their behalf. For the time being, my old boy just seems very tired. He was drooling a bit in the car. I hope this is the only complications he has due to their carelessness. "Second Chance is committed to providing the best care and services for all pets entrusted to us. Our primary goal is to work with pet owners to ensure the health and well-being of their pets." A direct quote found on google. Not only did Second Chance not work with me, they also did not ensure the health and well-being of my pet. Do not entrust them with your loved ones. Pets are family and I feel borderline violated. They gave my boy something he did not need, that could harm him, without my consent. This post is not a reflection of everyone in the establishment(the woman at the front desk was rather kind) While I understand they are busy, and errors may happen, the compassion and respect was not there and that's unforgivable Unsure on why I can't comment back, so here's an edit: regardless of a policy, I should have been asked for the certificate and/or notified of the change in my pets visit. This is unacceptable and you seem to fail to see the severity in this. Based off this reply, I will be taking this a step further and reporting this to the board. Great for vaccinations. But don't try to use them as your pets vet. Called last week for my sick cat, they can't see him for a week so suggest i go to the emergency clinic. So i did. After refusing to authorize $900 in tests i call second chance a day later, but now they can't see me for almost 40 days. Yes a vet is out i understand. But you have no i Maybe squeeze a patient in? I love this place! I simply don't have thousands of dollars to pay a private vet for neutering my two cats. This particular service is wait listed. I thought the demand would be too great and I'd never hear from them, but was pleasantly surprised to hear a message from Andrew that there was an opening last Friday. The Worcester clinic is in a convenient location, and we were in and out that day at the times promised. A recorded video of post op care plays in the lobby while you wait for your pet(s). Cats were groggy for a few hours, but have been running around since as if nothing is different. I called with a few questions and got a prompt return call. They are highly recommended and we may be back at rabies shot time. read more

I took my cats here when I lived in Worcester and always got excellent service. After I moved, I was visiting my father with my new puppy when he got hit by a car. He was hurt and I was terrified. I took him to Second Chance and they treated him really well, were wonderful to me, and made me really sad that they aren't here in my new home! Our last visit reminded me of why I stopped using this clinic over a year before. I called to enquire about a dental promotion and was informed (in January) that I needed to complete paperwork for subsidized pricing before I could secure an appointment. Forms were completed/returned and an appointment was scheduled and pricing provided in the email. I called the day before to confirm the pricing again as my partner had to attend the appt in my place. Everything was all set until after the 10 minutes they spent looking in the dog's mouth. Despite the print-out he took in, they charged the card nearly double the amount and provided no invoice at check-out to explain the difference. On the phone, they told me they didn't have the forms. And when I told them when I emailed them over, they changed the story to the "latest" forms. I was told I just needed to complete the revised form, which I did, was told in an email they'd reach out for a refund and 3+ weeks later I'm still waiting (they called, didn't leave a message and when I called back, I was told there were no notes in the system about a refund). So because I had to protect myself by disputing this charge, they're now reneging on the refund. Games, bait and switch, disorganization, incredibly rude employees (Mandy O'Rorke), lies and too many broken promises to count. Pay attention to the multiple negative reviews here and elsewere and save yourself the headache. This is not a reputable organization! read more

Absolutely amazing clinic! I can't possibly say enough good things about second chance. We have four cats, two of whom very frequently have medical issues. So we're what you would call 'frequent flyers' with second chance. The staff are always super friendly, they ask lots of questions to make sure they understand what's going on, and they're really good about trying to get you in as soon as they possibly can. They've taken such amazing care of our cats, I'm extremely protective over my fur babies so it speaks volumes about their character and integrity that I trust them with their care. In addition to being very friendly and helpful, one of my favorite things is how well they treat the animals. There have been several times where we've done a drop off appointment, drop the cat off in the morning and come pick her up later in the afternoon. At first I was nervous about doing this kind of appointment. But every time we've done it our cat actually LOVES IT. She gets love and attention all day long from the staff, who treat her like the most special cat in the world and she doesn't even know she's having tests done. Second chance makes you feel like your animals and your family are the most important thing in the world, and take the animals health seriously. They're very cooperative and have this great mindset that the pet family knows the pet best, so they trust you when you say something's wrong with your animal and they follow through with investigating. I just brought my dog Ben for a follow up dental visit that was included (they told me by phone when confirming appt.) but on checkout they charged me $35 dollars for a 'wellness' visit. when I questioned the charge, I was told that they had to charge the fee because I mentioned Ben's new habit of squinting. The person seeing Ben glanced at his eyes in response. No comments made regarding eyes. Sad, tricky billing methods I experienced leaves a really bad feeling about this place. I get to Second Chance and immediately my first reaction was that the place is a dump. Another woman and I there have our dogs and as we're waiting patiently to get our pets spayed, the receptionist comes out and says they don't have dogs on their schedule booked for today and that they called everyone to reschedule when REST ASSURED neither one of us got a call. That is not a coincidence, it is a bold face lie. I've had this appointment written down on my calendar for a month, and I did not receive a single email or phone call just as the other woman didn't. I filled out the online application to have my cat neutered. The call came from an unknown number with no caller id, so I missed the call. I received a message telling me to call back the next day to make an appointment. I called the number several times throughout the day and received only answering machine messages. If your goal is to provide low income families subsidized animal care and vet services at non subsidized prices to people who are more than willing to pay the full price to support a charity, the least you could do is answer your phones. read more
