Got what the locals call a medium creamy (an ice cream) super good. We can't really find ice cream done this way around us anymore. They have some picnic tables and some space to wonder around on the corner where this snack bar is located. Has a bake shop as well, located inside on the left side where they sale a bunch of novelty items, shirts and hats so on and so forth. Do not bring food or ice cream into the store (there is a polite note outside asking you not too) The young man at the window I ordered from was super nice and peppy. I feel like I can't give a complete fare score here due to the fact that I just got an ice cream. But with what I did experience it would be what I give, so hopefully some day I can visit again. read more

Seb's is a great spot for a Creemee - our family loved the chocolate and cherry dip cones. The maple flavored Creemee is delicious. They have a large outdoor space with picnic tables and yard games. The attached shop was super cute and we sound some great souvenirs. read more

The food is exactly what you would hope for in a Vermont snack bar. The sausage and Pepper sandwich, served on a hot dog roll, was great--Fresh grilled vegetables. Ice cream & smoothies were served to us promptly and were of exceptionally good quality. I would not hesitate to return to Sebs. The staff was quite pleasant and very efficient. They all smiled and wished us a very nice afternoon. I felt very comfortable there and we stayed seated at one of the several tables on the grass lawn. Went here with my parents as part of our Vermont Vacation on August 29th 2023. There is a general store also attached to this, as well as the snack bar, which had ice cream, and some other food like burgers. First, we went in the General store in which they had syrups and some touristy things. Then, we walked outside while my mom was buying a few things, and decided on getting ice cream. They had Hershey's ice cream there, and i ordered Cotton Candy in a cup, my dad ordered the chocolate raspberry sundae, and my mom ordered soft serve vanila on a waffle cone. Person taking our order, and at the cashier inside were both very nice. They had tables and chairs to sit outside, and we all ate our delicious ice cream there. But what you can get here is a gigantic (they say large) maple creemee (think soft serve) for $4, and a large one (which they call "small") for $3. Stopped here because we had just gotten in and set up in the RV park and we hungry. It's just a small food stand, line was long and moved fairly slow. Cashier seemed friendly enough but she was busy. You order your food and beverages and wait with a pager. If you forgot to order your husband's beverage, you get back in line. I ordered the fish and chips and a cheddar bacon burger for my husband. The bacon on the burger was deep fried and greasy and the roll soggy mush, said he wouldn't have ate it if he weren't so hungry. I got fish and chips, the breading on the poor quality fish sticks was terrible and I thought "okay, at least I have French fries" Nope! We couldn't even finish them with ketchup. Thought we'd get ice cream to help fill us up but they closed that window up promptly at 7pm! Save yourself the grief and go somewhere else! read more

A classic roadside snack bar, serving ice cream and some pretty reliable fried food. We stopped by since it was down the road from our Airbnb, and we didn't feel like traveling far for lunch. You order at the window, they give you a buzzer, and you pick up your food from the side window when it's ready. There are a modest amount of tables outside as well as cornhole, but beware of the mosquitos. I got quite a few bites while eating. My husband ordered the fish and chips, which came with 3 small perfectly fried fish fillets and a mound of fries. My husband thought the fries could have been crispier, but I really enjoyed them. Unfortunately, they weren't seasoned, but we were able to get salt and ketchup pretty easily to fix that. The tartar sauce they provided with the fish was pretty darn good as well. I got a corndog and onion rings. The corndog was fine. A little on the smaller side, but no other complaints. The onion rings were our favorite part of the meal. They were super crispy, and the onion was well-cooked enough that it didn't slide right out of the batter. Portions are on the small side given how high the prices are. Our Airbnb hosts affectionately call this place "home of the $7 hot dog" and after paying for our food, we could see why. While we won't be rushing to come back, it was a pleasant lunch on a beautiful day. read more

Can't recommend. The food really gets the two stars. Bacon cheese burgers were really meh. Forgot the bacon on one. The fries were not crispy, tasteless. Onion rings were a little lower then mediocre. The creamy tasted off. Everyone in our group tried it and all though it had a taste of smoke. Two of the three of us thought it was tasteless. The kids that worked in there looked really unhappy. The girl that handed me the creamy made eye contact with me like she wanted me to know she hated her job. For ice cream... great place; however, didn't have a great money for value experience with my cheesesteak "sub" for $8.95 not the smaller "roll" for $6.50. I have eaten many, many cheesesteaks all over the country and have to say this one is the same size as one I wrote a review from an airport. I paid even more for that one. Have a look at the pics... you tell me, is $9 for a cheesesteak on a sandwich roll? I bet it totally says sandwich rolls on the bag... a sandwich roll is 6" and a sub min of 9"... Had a nice stop here recently with a few other friends. We arrived by motorcycle on a hot and humid day traveling from Rutland. With no inside seating, we were fortunate to accept the picnic table with umbrella as an option. The parking lot is compressed gravel, which seems common for that area. There were designated guests windows to order - one for food, one ice cream, and a third for pickup. We had plans on this trip to stop here for lunch or ice cream. Half the group got food, and half the cream. I got a thick chocolate shake which was well accepted. After, we spent some time in the store which again was appealing due to the AC. Purchased Vermont syrup at the store which will be well used. In the back of the building was a Porta-Potty which was terribly hot using and nothing to clean hands with; kind of a dirty option particularly if the restaurant workers have to use that. Hopefully it is for the public only. The staff were very helpful. I'd stop in another time. read more

I've visited Seb's nearly every summer my whole life. They've been around for a long time, serving locals, campers, and passers-by delicious burgers, "Red Hots" (chili dogs), the best fries (which must be drenched in white vinegar!), and big servings of ice cream. Every year I have to stop by and get a Red Hot, a pint of fries, and a Moose Tracks ice cream cone when I'm up in South Hero. Seb's is a snack bar where you order and pick up at the window. There are picnic tables scattered in a grassy area next to the building, but many folks stand around the gravel parking lot as they talk and eat Prices are on the cheaper side, and definitely a great place to stop with the family whether you are visiting the area or on your way to or from Plattsburgh, NY via the Lake Champlain Ferry. The highlight here for me is the french fries. Their fries are home cut and fried golden brown: crispy but soft, too. Condiments are available, including ketchup and spray bottles of white vinegar. The white vinegar is essential to get the full experience. I spritz my fries with vinegar, and squeeze some ketchup on the side for dipping. Can't beat it! There is also a gift shop right next door with lots of Vermont items like t-shirts, sweatshirts, postcards, maple syrup, and other knick-knacks. Seb's is a must-visit if you're ever up on Grand Isle. read more

Biked here from the ferry. I scratched my shin on the ride. When I placed my order, one of the kind staff members at Seb's stopped what they were doing to grab a first aid kit with some bandages. He was extremely caring. With all the dust that I was kicking up on the causeway, it was nice to have my shin covered for thebride back to Burlington. The food was also tasty. And the large maple creemee was the tallest anywhere. Highly recommend stopping here! read more

I live right around the corner from Seb's but having just moved here this was my first try at the place. I'm not big on fast foods often so when I go I try something a bit different. Here I tried the "Turkey Burger". It's basically fried turkey in a bun. Tasty though and not at all greasy. The fries, which we shared a large portion of (the large can basically feed a family) were OK. They were your "skin on" russet style grease fries but tasty and hot. The ice creams are large as well, the "small" creemee looks about 5-8 spirals high! The menu is huge so I'm sure I'll be back to try some other items (but I think the place is now closed for the season...or at least soon will be). Also, bear in mind, it's all outdoor seating here. I took out from Al's French Fries with my boyfriend on Saturday night and found myself thinking that the burgers were much smaller than I remembered. The experience was just OK. I was a little disappointed as I thought I remembered it being better in the past, but I've only been a few times and not recently, so it's hard to say for sure. Then Sunday my dad and I decided to take a drive and we ended up at Seb's in South Hero. I remember thinking to myself, "OMG, I'm having burgers and fries two nights in a row!" (I try to eat a healthier meal the night after I eat burgers and fries). My expectations were low. I think I had eaten there one time before. Perhaps just for creemees and didn't expect much for the savory, fried offerings at this roadside drive in. Since I had eaten at Al's the night before, the experience was fresh in my mind and I was a bit shocked at just how good Seb's burgers were compared to Al's. For starters, the burgers were much bigger. The meat quality was better. The cheese was better. I assume the meat wasn't local, but for this sort of roadside burger joint I was really impressed. The fries were also good, though they had no salt on them. Seb's has a fun vibe. Anytime you cross the causeway to visit the islands it's like escaping into another decade in Vermont's history. Outdoor takeout joints like Seb's are summertime attractions and just plain fun for a special occasion. Most people there were standing in line for ice cream and creemees. I would have gotten one but I felt as if two burgers, two nights in a row was enough, but I do want to go back and enjoy some ice cream before things close down in the colder weather. I noticed one woman had ordered a big sundae with tons of whipped cream on top. She sat in a chair nearby and literally sunk her face into it, eating it from the top without a spoon. Utter abandon. As I looked, wide-eyed, at the woman with ice cream and whipped cream all over her face, I realized that's how I probably often look when I indulge in sundaes. I, too, often just start eating the whipped cream right off the top without utensils, not thinking of onlookers, just enjoying the moment. This woman helped me realize it's not a great look. Regardless, that probably won't make me change my approach. Whipped cream is king. If I'm in the mood for a burger and i'm in the area I will definitely stop by again. read more

I have lived in South Hero my entire life, and there are definitely some improvements that came with the new ownership, but some drawbacks as well. I visit weekly so I consider myself extremely knowledgeable about the functions of the business. I consider myself an ice cream connoisseur as well, since I eat it daily. PROs Credit Cards: One of the largest improvements is that they now accept credit cards, so you no longer need to worry about carrying cash if you came on a bike. Seating: They have redone the seating and waiting area. There is a canopy, so you no longer get soaked while waiting in line. The new seating area is very nice and clean. Parking: They also added barriers to protect you from cars, which has reduced parking slightly, but it is a fair trade-off because you no longer have to look over your shoulder or worry about your kids being too close to the cars. I have had no trouble parking. Games: They have corn hole! Finally, something to do while you wait for your food. There is also an escape room if you plan to stay longer, but I have not done it, so I am not sure how good it is. Food: They have added some new items to the menu, but I have not tasted them. The food is usually pretty good though. I love the chicken tenders. Just make sure the thick pieces are cooked all the way through. Ice Cream: I love ice cream, and this is some good stuff. Ice Cream Consistency: They purchased some new coolers which works much better. No more drips as soon as you get it. Ice Cream Sprinkles: They have maple sprinkles which taste great. Lights: They have installed new light poles for night. CONs Price: For the most part the price has stayed the same, but it no longer includes tax, so you are paying more. It was really convenient that the price you saw was what you payed. Ice Cream Size: The size has noticeably decreased. The new owner is rather skimpy with the sizes. Sebs has always been a little pricey, but you knew you were going to get a huge size (their small would be a large at other places). Now the sizes are less exciting, and the added tax makes me think twice before making a stop. Ice Cream Taste: They got a new creemee (soft serve) machine which has altered the taste. It is the same machine as the Village Scoop in Colchester. It is not a bad taste (I still eat both), I just preferred the old taste. Staff: The staff has always been very nice, but the new owner has some shady hiring practices. She chose to not hire back a bunch of people who were older and hired a bunch of young teens who are untrained. This has caused a lot of problems. She also does not know what her staff is capable of. She puts people who do ice cream on the grill, and they are lost. There are people who need to learn how to make ice cream, but the owner hasn't taken the time to properly train the new staff. She decided to hire a bunch of new people and it has come back to bite her. Wait Time: The grill has always taken too long in my opinion, but the ice cream is also slower. This of course is due to the untrained staff and poor management. read more

This place is poised to be a perfect burger stop on your way to the islands but I was disappointed that it fell short of that. Service is excellent, and they have a nice menu range. Also you can't really beat the americana-esque picnic style grounds. But the quality of beef (also lacking in flavor) is what brings it down to three stars for me. Definitely frozen low grade quality patties here. We would have gladly paid two dollars more per burger for better quality beef lightly seasoned with some salt and pepper.
