I had planned…read moreto check out some other studios, but Alyssa fosters such an inclusive, supportive, challenging environment for people of all levels that I don't feel the need to look any further. She starts her classes by asking for your name, pronouns, injuries, and usually some other fun question that gets everyone relaxed. The beginner classes are useful whether you're a true beginner or are a year in, because she give you multiple options of things to work on. The classes are diverse and interesting, and the spirit of inclusion, body positivity, respecting gender identity, and disallowing racist beauty standards make me want to come to class and support her mission statement. Getting into your underwear and writhing around on a pole can be intimidating, but I've felt completely at ease in this space. I look forward to seeing where I am a year from now.

So when I started at Positive Spin three years ago, I was initially intimidated and expected a similar level of intensity. But the vibe here is very different. All the instructors encourage individuality and choosing your own adventure. I like knowing that whether I am trying to train really hard or just have a more lowkey day, I can always show up and get something out of class. Also the community is the best. Everyone is incredibly supportive and there is always lots of cheering in class.

I truly thought that I would be giving this place a 5 star review, and I'm sad that wasn't my…read moreexperience. I am always looking to support the Arts, small businesses, museums, and such - especially now - and this seemed like a good way to do that while also having a fun, unique work-out experience. I have actually had this place on my bucket list for years, so I was super excited to go. My husband and I paid $100 for a 1-hour private aerial silks lesson. We decided on a private lesson partly due to COVID, partly because we were hoping for a class that was at least partly-tailored to us, since it would be just the 2 of us, and partly because I am at one of the least physically-fit points I've been at in my entire life. (My excuses are: a couple of severe medical issues that affected my weight and my energy levels, and my rescue cat who is very needy and loves to cuddle, but he's worth it... but really I just need to get my butt in gear and get fit again.) Despite my low level of physical fitness currently, my minor physical limitations, and my total lack of experience, I was feeling confident that I could adapt or modify anything that I couldn't do, hopefully with the help of the instructor. I didn't even necessarily expect to be able to do every move. What I didn't expect was to be able to do NONE of the moves. None of them. Okay, I'm not THAT lacking in physical fitness... at least, I didn't think I was? I've done many virtual physical fitness classes throughout the pandemic - though yelp, through a few friends of mine who are fitness class instructors and I wanted to support them financially while trying to stay fit, and a handful of other classes, too. For some of these other fitness classes, I wasn't able to do every single move, and I did have to modify some of the suggested moves. However, this is literally the first time in my entire life that I was able to do NONE of the moves. I started feeling frustrated by this. My husband mentioned that it seemed like the instructor, Jen, had no idea what to do when I started feeling frustrated. I certainly didn't receive a single word of encouragement from her, which might have been nice. Although she did suggest corrections, she didn't really suggest modifications or alternate moves for me to try. When I asked her if the private lesson had a set curriculum and was really similar to the intro class, just with only 2 people, or if she was able to adapt to our specific needs and limitations, she got really defensive and insisted that she had given me "another option" for a move. But there were only 4 total moves that she taught us in the entire hour, and it seemed like the "other option" was just the next thing on her list of moves in the pre-set curriculum. My husband also mentioned that Jen seemed ill-equipped to trouble-shoot if one of us was having an issue with any of the moves. He only really had an issue with the last move of the 4 (go, Leo! It was neat to watch him go!!), but the instructor gave him feedback 4 separate times but none of her feedback enabled him to complete the 4th move successfully so she clearly had no clue what the problem was. My poor husband, who is an excellent problem-solver in general, felt badly that HE, as a first-time beginning student, wasn't able to figure out what the problem was - isn't that a big part of the instructor's job, especially for a private lesson? My husband also commented that the instructor's energy was really "flat". I agree with this - she had zero enthusiasm whatsoever, and almost no encouragement. When I was encouraging my husband and cheering him on for the 4th move - by this time I was sitting on my mat letting the lesson be his lesson since I hadn't gotten anywhere on ANY of the 4 moves - she looked over at me and then said a couple of encouraging things to him herself. This was the first time in our entire lesson, with about 5 minutes left to go, that she had said anything encouraging. This seems weird for a fitness instructor, they usually have a pretty infectious energy that is really motivating, and I started out this class super excited to learn this. We sadly would not go back, unless maybe in 5 years when I'm super fit again (it might take that long, LOL), but if we did go back, we would request a different instructor for sure. I will say that our instructor was friendly and welcoming to me when I arrived. My husband was still parking, so I arrived alone for the first few minutes. This reminds me - parking is horrible at this location, and super hard to find. We went today, on a Thursday afternoon. We arrived almost 10 minutes early. By 1 minute until our lesson started, we still had not found a place to park near the studio. Really sad and disappointed. It was nice to watch my husband do 3 of the moves, though. I feel like giving 2 stars really, but their COVID precautions are/were A++ which matters a lot to us since we're super strict ourselves, and the facility was nice.

I signed up for an introductory pole dancing class because it seemed fun and I wanted to switch up…read moremy exercise routine! It was a class that started at 8:15, on a Friday. The company sends out emails that gives very explicit directions on where to park and how to find and access the studio, in addition to linking a video with visual and audio directions, so I had no issues finding anything as everything was really well explained! My taught by Dani, who was a great instructor. Dani went around to sign everyone in, as for our pole experience one on one, so the class could be best tailored to all of us. We were also given a clean exercise mat with plenty of cushion, along with an ethanol spray bottle and towel for cleaning/drying our poles and hands. We then did a very extensive warm up to begin with, followed by working on a spin, during which Dani went around individually to everyone to give tips and help out with modifications as needed. This was very helpful for me, as I was able to ask explicit questions about what muscles to engage and general body positioning. Afterwards, we did a mini choreography a few times to practice what we learnt, followed by a cooldown. During the session, we were given ample opportunity for water breaks, along with cleaning our poles as needed, which I appreciated. The minor cons--the studio is extremely hot. As a result of this, there are several fans always blowing which is very nice, but they tend to be loud. That plus the music, which was turned down during instruction, made it a bit hard to hear Dani at times. Luckily I was towards the front, and didn't miss anything major for directions. The studio itself is extremely nice otherwise though! A great little cubby area for shoes and bags, and a couch/table for waiting for your class to start. The ambiance with lighting and music is also very nice, and there are mirrors everywhere so you can really see yourself getting into different positions. I had a really fun time at the class, and would definitely be a studio for people to consider if they're interested in one of their classes!

It's pretty easy to book classes online (surprisingly Seattle studios aren't really on Mindbody) by purchasing a class pack and applying it to sign ups. The email reminders are helpful. It's a little difficult to locate the studio in the alleyway of buildings, but they do a great job of providing directions. I arrived early via Uber/Lyft and was greeted by the instructor for Pole Conditioning & Stretching. It was an all-levels class, and the instructor (can't remember her name!) did a great job of explaining moves and providing modifications for each student. Then I took Pole L2 & L3 with Beau, who is a fantastic instructor! Turns out, we have mutual friends. The pole community is such a small world. Definitely more advanced of a class than I expected (good thing I didn't sign up for L4!) and enjoyed the safe and friendly class environment. Will definitely be back here to train next time I'm in Seattle!

I know this place has been around but I only just found it. I'm an aerialist and not a pole dancer,…read moreso my review won't have much to do with the pole half of the studio. Pros: - I prefer aerial sling, so it delights me that this place has sling as a priority type of aerial. - Plenty of parking. One of my major dislikes of ECTA is their extreme lack of parking, which is enough of a headache that I'm often discouraged to go. Not so here! There's a number in front of the studio, but the lot across the street is also easy parking, and crossing the small street is pretty safe because not many people go through there. - Classes are pretty nice price- I got an intro class pack for 4-for-$40, and the regular priced class is about $25/class if you buy a ton of them. They also take a year to expire! - They have enough rigs/apparatuses that there's plenty of time on the fabrics, which I enjoy. - The goal in the class is to do a short routine, which I highly prefer over just practicing fundamentals Cons: - I guess it's because they don't have a front desk room area, but I've had to stand outside in the cold several times before class because I arrived early, because the doors are literally locked during class. The reason I aim to arrive so early? - Because their lateness policy is bizarrely unforgiving. Ten minutes late = locked door, no entry. So only solution is to arrive SO early that you're inevitably locked out, in case of things like...traffic. accidents. whatever. - I was feeling mildly sick once and wasn't sure I should go in. Figured eating the cost of the $10 intro class was okay... until I saw that there was an *additional* fee for no-showing. Why isn't eating the cost of the class enough?
