Hands down the best shelter. The facilities are beautiful and spotless, the animals are well cared for, and the volunteers couldn't be more helpful and eager to match you with the best animal for you. The volunteers really sold me on this place. Everyone had a smile from ear to ear. Wayne was very friendly and knowledgeable when helping me through the adoption process. I'm happy to report I adopted a beautiful 5 year old kitty that couldn't be more affectionate and loving. I love Seattle Humane and will not be able to recommend this shelter enough! read more

Seattle Humane - My beautiful adopted cat, Frankie! - Animal Shelters Near Me - Bellevue, Washington

Although the volunteers are very friendly and helpful, the processor in charge of doing the paperwork for adopting cats, at least the one from last Sunday, really needs to improve. Or get fired. We waited for almost three hours for her to start our paperwork once we let her know which cats we intended to adopt. Within the span of about 3 hours, she called on us on two different occasions to approach her desk from the waiting area, only to ask us whether we brought our own pet carriers or not, looking confused and not seeming to know which cats we expressed an interest in, and then quickly told us to go back to our seats to again wait for her to call us. She did this twice! We decided we would not wait any longer, and chose to leave to find another shelter to adopt a cat. And sure enough, at the next shelter we went to, we were able to meet a cat of interest, ask questions, fill out all necessary paperwork, pay the adoption fees, and leave with our newly adopted cat--all in about 45 minutes! read more

We adopted our cat one year ago from the Humane Society. She came microchipped and spaded, and the volunteers knew her temperament and her story which was very helpful to us and showed that they really cared! This time last year this place was under construction. It was scary, cold, and small. Oh my goodness what a difference a year makes! I came back to the Bellevue location to donate some cat food and toys, and it has changed drastically! The space is beautiful and the cats and dogs look so much happier in their nice big and clean spaces. There is a clinic onsite and a small Mudbay... all proceeds go back to the Seattle Humane Society. Everyone who works and volunteers here is a delight and the pets are very well taken care of. KUDOS to the Humane Society for the recent transformation. read more

I wasn't even intending to adopt a dog that day. And I certainly wasn't planning on adopting a dog that spent most of the time during our initial introduction barking, growling, and snapping at a bull terrier in the next pen over. (Jeez, I thought. No wonder his last family sent him back to the Humane Society after a week. He's a monster.) However, thanks to the great advice and help from the people at Humane Society, this so-called monster (who was really just a cuddly wuss-pants in a stressful situation) has found a happy forever home with me and my two other dogs. As busy as the Seattle Humane Society gets (especially on a Sunday), the process of adopting a dog was quite simple. Everyone we met at the Humane Society, from the volunteers to the full time staff, was really great. The girl who helped us introduce the new dog to my existing pets was super knowledgeable about dog behavior and gave us great tips to make the new dog's transition into our home an easy one. And they provide lots of resources to make sure that any dog owner (from first timers to experienced) will have a great relationship with his or her new pal. My house is full now, so I probably won't be adopting another pet anytime soon, but the Seattle Humane Society is the first place I'd recommend for anyone looking for a pet. read more

The dogs seemed neglected with feces all over their kennels; I had to tell one of the staff that a dog was licking an open wound. They also had a 2 month old puppy named Winnie who was sitting in a dark room where the lights didn't work. The lady who worked there even admitted she didn't know what was wrong with the lights. The staff seemed short and rude too. I wanted to see a dog, but forgot the name and they seemed very offended that I didn't recall the dogs name and asked if I was serious about adopting. I completely understand that they want the dogs to go to good homes, but it felt a like an interrogation. My wife and I left very unhappy with the place. Look elsewhere to adopt your dogs. read more

Healing from losing my beloved dog, I decided to visit some shelters to see if any dogs tugged at my heartstrings. I wasn't sure I was completely ready to adopt a dog, but looking couldn't hurt! It was actually kind of healing seeing how many dogs needed a loving home. I knew that I had given my last shelter dog a gift, just as he had been one to me. I had been looking online and it is difficult to tell from the write up online and from the photos exactly what you should expect! Some shelters have the age and weight of the dogs listed, but Seattle Humane Society does not have the weight of the dogs available and did not have the age of one of the dogs I was interested in. I prefer a very small dog since I live in an apartment. The last dog I adopted was eight, so age was not a huge factor, but it is still nice to know! I don't have time for a puppy and didn't want to deal with a dog that was so old we would only be together a few years. We looked through the cages and saw some of the dogs that we saw online. I am not sure the breeds are classified properly, some of the Chihuahuas were 20+ pounds! We passed one of the kennels a few times with a couple of dogs in it. One was "Wendy" a cute little Chihuahua who didn't have her age listed. She seemed sweet and docile, she was even sleeping on her roommate, so cute! Then the dogs started barking and she went crazy! The last thing I need is a barking dog in my apartment :) We decided after an hour that we would visit with Wendy, just to see. We had a few other dogs on the list to visit, I didn't want to regret not having a one on one with this dog. The shelter requires you fill out some forms and complete a quick interview before you can visit with a dog. My daughter really wanted to visit with a puppy, but because of the interview and us not being able to take a puppy home, we were not able to visit with it. I really appreciate this because so many people take on pets they cannot handle. We had a one on one with Wendy and she was a little snuggle bug! She nestled right in and fell asleep, so amazing! She didn't bark when we were with her, except when another dog was having a visit next to us. She is a really good listener and stopped barking when I asked her to. We were in love, my daughter even gave her a new name, "Wednesday" or Winnie for short. Once you name a dog, it is yours, right? We started the adoption process and the shelter had all of Wednesday's vet records. She has a medical condition which requires prescription food for the rest of her life. They were really great about explaining the condition and the recent surgery she had because of it. Because they had the prior vet records, it was really easy to see what we had in store if she needed surgery again. Seattle Humane Society gave us a voucher for a free vet visit and six weeks of obedience training. My regular vet accepted the voucher, which was fantastic. I cannot wait to start obedience classes! The paperwork was kind of sloppy and it was unclear of the dog was spayed as everything the shelter had said she had not been spayed. The Seattle Humane Society does not adopt out dogs that have not been spayed, I'm not sure how this was missed! When I called, the person I spoke to agreed that all of their records showed the dog was not spayed. Thankfully I was able to go through the prior vet records and find that she was spayed when she had her recent surgery. Otherwise, the shelter said they would have to open her up to confirm or perform the spay. Our sweet Wednesday is at home enjoying her new life. read more

We adopted a great fluffy oof-oof dog from the Seattle Humane Society. The SHS staff was very friendly and helpful throughout the entire process, however I do have a suggestion for them going forward: Our new fluffy friend had been a farm dog stray in Eastern WA and they thought he'd be a major problem dog because he didn't respond to any commands... the catch was "English" commands. His Spanish understanding was at a higher level than me. Once my Columbian girlfriend started speaking those exotic noises to him, he was "ven aqui"ing and "sientate"ing with the best of them. My suggestion is to test strays for Spanish understanding. I know the family in front of me passed on our big pup because of the potential hardship (which I am extremely thankful of! Thank you lady who thought 'Ozark' would be a menace... he's actually the perfectly behaved angel shepherd lol not really but close). I would hate to see other great animals getting passed up on because of something similar. Anyways, this is a great place and rescuing animals is the way to go! Usually it ends up as the human being the one rescued, ya feel?! Thanks Seattle Humane Society :) read more

After having a very negative experience with a local rescue organization, we were cautious about getting involved with rescue-type organizations. I'm so glad we decided to take a chance with Seattle Humane. We just finished fostering our first dog, and the experience was amazing! The staff were so supportive, provided us with all of the supplies/advice we needed, and were kind and patient. We will be fostering again in the near future. Everyone working at the shelter clearly cares about the animals and wants the best for them. I love that staff recommend positive training methods. Not to mention, the amount of community programs and services Seattle Humane provides is impressive. When we do finally adopt a dog in the future, we will definitely be going through Seattle Humane. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Seattle Humane! My boyfriend & I went and adopted a cat through them last week, and she is the friendliest and sweetest kitty in the world. The shelter itself is very clean and bright, and most of the cats are housed together in open rooms so they can play and interact. Once we filled out a form we were assigned a personal member of the staff (we had Max, who was fantastic!), who would tell you more about any animals you were interested in. And by more, I mean: health check ups, foster care notes (if applicable), and general notes on disposition and personality. Very thorough! They really listened to what type of cat we were looking for for our lifestyle, and we ended up with an amazing little 7 month old tortoiseshell that we couldn't love more. If you're looking to adopt a cat (and I'm sure dog, I just can't speak to that part of it) then you should absolutely go to the Seattle Humane. Highly recommended! read more

Great new facility. Tends to be more crowded on the weekends so plan on spending more time than you might think, even if you've narrowed down your choices ahead from their website listings. The website provides limited info on each pet, but once there, and you inquire, it seems like some of them have issues (health and/or behavior) not on the public website that may well change your mind & narrow or eliminate all your pre-selected candidates. Hence it takes more time to go search for a new choice. Might be better if the website gave full details & save everyone the surprises after you have picked a favorite. Everyone is super friendly and tries to help and definitely a great option to find your new pet. read more

Seattle humane is a remarkable group of people and I can't get over it. They do so much for the community in helping all the animals. I've had first hand experience with it this year! It's been a tough year financially more so this year for so many of us. I've been fortunate to be able to afford care for my animals until recently being in between jobs. Adopted a 1-year-old cat as a first time cat owner (Cat father? Cat daddy. Anyway.) through a pet store in Bellevue hosting cats from Seattle Humane, but I also visited the facility several times during my adoption process. Nice place, lots of friendly cats and kittens. Some wild ones that ricochet off the walls, and others more loafish. Be advised, the place can get VERY busy and you may have to be quick on the draw with the adoption papers. I applied for two cats on the same day, and was approved for neither, and I did not get a call back at all (hence docking one star). I also watched a family decide on another cat that piqued my interest minutes before I planned to. If you really like an animal, apply immediately. It could be gone that day. If you're doing it at a pet store, call Seattle Humane afterward to confirm they have received the form. They might take 1-3 days to get back to you with a decision. Staff were always nice and helpful, both over the phone and in-person. Busy but not harried. I visited once on the weekend over the summer and was met with a nearly vacant parking lot and few visitors, but in the fall months it's been packed. Adoption fees for adult cats hosted at Seattle area stores vary. Most were $25, but some at one store were inexplicably $125. Cats are cool read more

I have had an awesome experience with Seattle Humane so far. We adopted our cat from them a little over a month ago and when we were there, the staff were very friendly and helpful. They checked in with us three days after we took our cat home, and then again three weeks after we got him. Our cat is very high energy and they even gave some suggestions on how we can provide him with more stimulation so he can get his energy out. I can tell that they really care about how the animals are doing once adopted, and how the people are doing too. I hope to adopt more pets in the future and I'll likely opt to go back to Seattle Humane again. read more

Enjoyed Puppy Manners 1 thoroughly & received great information & encouragement throughout classes. The instructor was patient & knowledgeable. My puppy learned so much & had a blast socializing with the other puppies. She got so excited whenever I told her we were going to puppy classes to see her friends. I was excited for the next class & enrolled in one that fit my busy schedule. During the first class, the new instructor said my dog was reactive & put up dividers so she could focus. She said they would be put up for each class. I left the class with the homework without so much as a word otherwise. This week, I braved the snow & arrived at class to find out that it was canceled. I received no call telling me there was no class. I was told maybe it came by email after waiting for someone I saw outside to finish with a foster. I spent over an hour of driving, paid a toll & sat in rush hour traffic because the instructor didn't call me to let them know of any change. The employee said maybe there was an email. I wasn't planning on looking at email until the new year as I wasn't expecting anything important from anyone. I went to check after leaving my information for a call as to what happened & found an email sent today forwarding another email waiting for me. Respectfully, if someone did not receive the first email & wasted all that time, energy & money coming in Christmas week, my 15+ years of customer service & common sense believes that at bare minimum a phone call is appropriate. To add insult to injury, the email sent in response to my going to a canceled class was not one of empathy. The email read "it sounds like you didn't receive my first message." Uh...no I clearly didn't. So why are you emailing me again instead of calling? I only thought to look after I got home because the other worker I waited in the snow to talk to for ten plus minutes said maybe the cancellation was emailed. The forwarded message said that my dog was in the wrong class. Good communication is just good customer service. It was the week before Christmas, which is a very busy time for pretty much everyone. Telling someone that they aren't going to be in a class is something that should have been done while I was in class face to face, not by email. Or if she didn't want to tell me I'm person, suggesting I look for an email is appropriate. And definitely when it was clear I didn't receive the first email & came out today, I should have received a phone call instead of a forwarded email I never received. Honestly, the first class was so good. I didn't mind driving for 30+ minutes each way to attend. I liked that my money was going to a nonprofit supporting animals. But unfortunately, there isn't consistency in the level of service & care in the training department. I am so disheartened by Seattle Humane's obtuse service & potentially discriminatory practices, I asked for a refund for the fee & have asked for a phone call. Hopefully Seattle Humane's Board will use this as a training opportunity & attempt to regain consumer trust. Not holding a class that's scheduled in itself is a huge breach of trust & reliability. I was floored when I realized how much worse their actions actually were. The worst part was dragging my dog back to the car, returning home with her. She was so excited for class she was crying & jumping at the front door & did not understand why she didn't get to go after I had gotten her so excited telling her it was puppy training day & she'd see her friends. The drive back she was so quiet & dejected, laying down on seat beside me. She's never been so still & quiet in the car. I felt so bad for her. All of this experience was preventable. Everyone makes mistakes. The way a mistake is handled is how a business either creates loyalty or loses customers, their reputation & lots of money. I'm training my dog to be my service animal & intended to go through all the classes. One person representing SH seriously tarnished my opinion of SH, a place I've adopted from & supported for over 40 years. read more

Seattle Humane was great to work with; we worked with Alex who was super accommodating and very knowledgeable. We spent quite a bit of time asking questions about Maggie and all of them were answered with a lot of detail. Alex was also very personable, didn't rush us at all, and just was genuinely interested in finding a good match for us. As we were leaving with our new family member, they ensured us that we could call them for any questions we had which I think is a great service to new shelter dog parents. I'm so happy to see that they rebuild a whole new facility to have more space to save even more animals. It's like a clinic now, there's 3 stories with heated floors to keep the furry friends warm with a mini store and vet inside. Before adopting an animal, they require you to fill out a quick survey and interview to see if your lifestyle matches with the pet's need. You then get to meet the dog and can adopt and bring your new friend home the same day! I didn't adopt my dog here, but I'm a huge rescue supporter, I was here when my mom adopted her dog from this Humane Society. The cleanest and most well organized shelter I've ever been to. Absolutely opened my mind to what a shelter can and should be like. They regularly host adoption events here (like a "Game of Thrones" one called "Game of Homes"), the staff is friendly and helpful, and the turnover rate is incredible. There's even a mudbay pet supply store inside the lobby. We have been visiting this shelter multiple times over a few month period for a cat and the staff have been welcoming each time and seeing new cats upon each visit is very reassuring. I will forever be grateful to this place and its staff. Thank you so much for all the work you guys do and for how well you take care of the animals. I came in with intention to see a kitten i had seen online. The very helpful and knowledgeable staff asked me questions about my current cat, our home dynamic, and my love/ knowledge orange tabbys to get a better idea of my family. I was told of another kitten named Chet that might actually be a better fit and was put in a private play area with him. The second Chet and I started playing, I knew this little mischievous baby was the one and that he would fit right in with my family. I thought it would be at least a week before my resident cat and Chet would be interacting but it was such an instant connection, it happened within a day! (I think it's the mix of him being the right fit and me introducing them properly by scent swapping and respecting their body language/signs) Chet's name has now been changed to Oliver. Thank you so much to this location - Wayne, Alex, the new guy (sorry can't remember your name but you're a sweetheart), the vets, and everyone else in between. It's because of this place that my family is complete and happier than ever. I HIGHLY recommend this location if you're looking for a new addition. We've been to so many shelters and humane societies when looking for a perfect companion for our home. I can honestly say that the Seattle Humane Society is one of the BEST ones there is. I'm very disappointed in Seattle Humane Society, and to be honest because of my experience I don't know if I will rescue again. My boyfriend and I adopted a beautiful dog named Nala Lou. They had told us because she wasn't with the shelter we could change her name, we decided to keep Nala. Upon adopting her she was supposed to be on Trazadone for her anxiety but they did not yet start her treatment because we adopted her. The reason was she wouldn't need it anymore because she doesn't like the kennel so as long as we don't kennel her she would be fine. This is by far the worst advise anyone have us. The vet we took her to a week after adoption prescribed us trazadone 100mg 2x day and also we had CBD in addition to her prescription. She has super bad anxiety, she wasn't potty trained and we later found out she was animal aggressive. We have made several attempts to socialize her. She is NOT good with other animals. Because we kennel her while at work she would hurt herself trying to get out during the time of being in there. She broke a nail and made a cut on her forehead over and over. The behavioral issues we can work on. She was potty trained after 3 weeks and kennel trained at night. But the hurting herself we couldn't bare. So we decided to surrender her back to SHS. I'm very angry because I have just looked at the site and they changed her name from Nala to Lala! I know this isn't a huge deal but after 2 months she has learned her name. There's another dog in there with the same name but i think they can be less lazy and figure out a way to make sure they don't get 2 dogs mixed up. It's not rocket science. Doing this will only confuse her more. They also put she needs someone always there to snuggle. I don't think they understand how crustal this is. She needs someone who works from home or is a stay at home mom or gone for a short period of time. She will damage property if left alone! She is amazing with kids and people. And she hates being alone. If she is kenneled it can't be the wire ones. We had that and we had to ziptie it everyday and cut them off when we got home. She broke the bottom tray of the kennel and chewed through our carpet. I gave them permission to give her future adopted parents our number so we can give them advise about what we did and what worked and didn't. She is an amazing dog and I miss her a lot and we still love her. But they make me so upset by not going into more detail to find her a better home. Nala (Lala) is nighttime kennel trained ( as long as the kennel is in the same room as you) the reason is she sometimes goes potty around 1am so it's only so she can learn to hold it. Once that is fully done she loves to sleep under the covers in bed with you. She loves all toys, Kong, ropes, balls, frisbees. She even does fetch. She knows sit and shake. We were working on stay and lay down. SHS is unprofessional, they show laziness, and I don't think they really care about finding the perfect homes. I'm really hoping whoever adopts her calls us because we would love to make sure she has everything she needs to make her life more enjoyable. Also when we adopted her she was posted as a pit bull/terrier. Now just terrier. Do not make a mistake she is blue nose pit bull but she is super loving read more

Saved up and Took a day off to go get a puppy with my kids that We looked up the night before. We got there around 1030, we arrived at the same time as a lady and gentlemen. When the doors opened we went straight downstairs to fill the application to see the puppy. As I was filling out the application the lady that was waiting with us by the door asked about the same puppy and they let her know we were waiting for a visit with him. We met him and fell in love! We let them know we wanted to adopt him. We went back upstairs to finish the adoption process, as we were picking out his collar a volunteer came up to tell us that the lady that was waiting to see the puppy was upset because she felt she arrived first and that the puppy was no longer ours because they are a first come first served basis. We couldn't we happier with our experience. We went to Seattle Humane after a bad experience with a local "rescue" giving us the run-around. We had seen a dog on their website but when we met face to face, it wasn't a match. The lead adoption specialist helped to fit our personality profile and matched us with our new girl (briefly named Emma, now named Miley). Their facility is new, but I have never seen the old one so I can't make a comparison. It had nice faux-grass play areas so you could get some one-on-one time with your dog. Knowing the type of dog we wanted, we were able to look on the website prior to visiting and know how much we would be paying. They set you up for success by including coupons, vouchers, and supplies for your dog. One voucher covered a free vet visit from a list of approved veterinary clinics (We chose NE Veterinary Clinic in Wedgewood). One coupon covered $20 worth of food at MudBay (we only paid like $5 for a 15lb bag of grain free food) and a free engraved pet tag. We were sent home with stuffed toys and health records to give our new vet. This whole experience has been wonderful, and we couldn't be happier with our pup. read more

I came to the Seattle Humane Society to adopt a dog I found on their web site that was a foster. I first read the dogs profile and saw that this particular dog was in foster. I called and left a message with the adoption coordinator inquiring about the pooch I was interested in and if she was still available . A week passes and I still herd nothing. So Last Tuesday I decided to go to the shelter. I got there and filled out the paperwork and sat and waited to be called. After about 45 minutes my name was called and I meet with an adoption coordinator. After chatting with her for 15 minutes to learn the only info they have about the dog is from about 5 month ago and have no updates from the foster on the dog. I'm still interested in said pup and she says that no one has been interested in said pup for a couple of months and says she will call the foster and put a hold on the dog for me to meet her. She also says I have to talk to the behavior coordinator and she will call me instead of having me wait. I say "ok" and leave. Three days later I get voice male from the Coordination saying that there is a person interested in the dog and going to visit them and will call me if the other person does not want them.. (I think to my self how is this. I have a hold on the dog) I am upset and feel like the communication between the staff needs to be better. I am very disappoint that they would allow this because there is suppose to be a hold on the dog. Bad customer service, but dogs seem happy, just find a supervisor to find out what is really going on before you leave. read more

My review is for the medical part of the business. I recently just adopted a dog from a sanctuary that works with the Seattle humane. Since I had fostered then adopted, the sanctuary wanted to be responsible for the vaccines and the neutering process. I agreed. Upon arriving the person was just there. Didn't want to say much, just took the dog and gave me directions. Upon arriving back to pick my buddy up after his procedures, I was instructed to come inside to pick him up. The girl at the desk rushed through after care, and was barking orders at everyone coming in and out, the people they work with. The staff was all over the place, no one was really paying attention to anything. When the person at the desk was going over what they did, she had mentioned a vaccine that my dog just had. So now he had two doses. I asked her if that was ok or if there's anything I should look out for, like will it harm my dog?! And she gave me complete attitude and told me that's what they were told to do, and to ask the person at the sanctuary about it. I repeated my question, very plain and simple, will this cause ANY harm or issues with my dog. And then she repeated very aggressively and voice raised, "That's what we were told to do. Go ask (name of guy that runs the sanctuary!" I am happy that my adoption process is over. And I will never go to the seattle humane again. I'd much rather take my dog to our vet, that is kind, understanding, knowledgeable and doesn't have a teenager attitude. To the person at the desk that worked on 5/30 at 4pm, if you do not like your job and are not willing to answer questions regarding the health of animals, you should get another job. It's not our fault that you are overworked and underpaid, don't take it out on the people that are trying to save the animals. read more

I know people say I shouldn't but I do ! It is just how I feel. They have been there for me after losing my beloved Angel to kidney failure in 2017 as they do have a pet loss group meetings. Everyone is so nice in this shelter. They have restored my faith in humanity ever since I such a horrible experience with PAWS in 1996. It took about 20 years to finally adopt from any shelter. The Pet Loss Support meeting is where it all began and my faith has been restored when I adopted my 5 month old kitten on July 30, 2015. BEST decision ever !! I am now ready to adopt from them again !! Thank you Seattle Humane ....you ARE the BEST !!!! read more

I Adopted George ( now King George) around 4 years ago. He was 10 years old when I brought him home. He has been such a blessing. I am so glad I adopted an older cat. I was pleased with the service provided at the Bellevue location. Update on George he is doing great and more spoiled than ever:) read more

Seattle Humane - King George adopted 2014 from Bellevue Humane Society - Animal Shelters Near Me - Bellevue, Washington

I think this is a great shelter, I've been to so many all over Seattle, Kent, Redmond, etc. I adopted my two kittens here, both absolutely adorable. They have more cats and dogs than any other shelter and they are relatively clean. Staff is very nice, we are allowed to spend alone time with the cat in a private room as well. What I like the most about this shelter is that they have many rooms for the cats to roam around instead of being locked in cages. Lots of beds, toys and places to them to climb. Each cat and dog has a folder of information about them as well. Each year, they have a time where they bring in a bunch of kittens, that's how I adopted my two babies. They sometimes do promotional stuff around holidays as well. I remember on Halloween, black cats were free for adoption. I feel that the staff here truly cares for the animals here and is genuine in sending them off to good owners that are suitable to have a pet. Every time I come here, it's packed with people. They make you sign up a piece of paper that provides information about you so they know whether you're a good fit or not and what kind of environment you're in. I think you have to fill it out every few months but I think it's a good idea to do it so that the staff knows what's best for both you and the rescues. read more

Seattle Humane - Adopted both of my babies when they were 3 months old! They both grew up to be cuddly best friends! - Animal Shelters Near Me - Bellevue, Washington

Most of the time I can cover my pet's needs and toys. I wasn't able to this time and when that happens the specter of rehoming my pet worries me but the pet food bank brought toys, medicine, and food for my pet. Sign-up was relievingly easy and judgment-free. I appreciated the services of the pet food bank and the great people behind it! read more

I'm very disappointed in my experience yesterday. Two years ago I adopted my cat there and my experience was so much better. Yesterday my adoption counselor was cold and judgemental. I felt overly criticized for my cats disappearance. For the past 2 months I have searched and done everything I knew how to find him. According to her I didn't try hard enough. Sadly, he's probably not coming back so to fill the empty hole I decided to adopt. I arrived thinking maybe I'll adopt 2 kittens or possibly an adult cat. I wasn't sure. After my interview, I was told I couldn't adopt kittens, cats that are declawed or have special needs. I felt humiliated! All because she believed I didn't try hard enough. I am an animal loving person who puts her pets first. I have a great career that provides enough money to care for these fur babies. Yet, I went home with nothing but hurt feelings. I don't usually post negative reviews or many reviews at all, but I think customer service on this day sucked and one or 2 of your kittens lost out on an excellent forever home. read more

I know they are a nonprofit staffed by volunteers, but I have never met so many uncaring and cruel people who cannot stand by their word. I spent weeks searching for the right dog. I found him, except someone else had a hold on him. They offered me a secondary hold. The first one fell through; I called in to check and the receptionist told me the dog was mine to come and pickup. I drove straight over and arrived just in time to watch them adopt him to someone else. I had to break my stepson's heart by telling him they had given his dog to someone else. Honestly, Puget sound has many better animal adoption and care and rescue services with wonderful animals worthy of you business and donations. I have donated money, food and supplies to them in the past; I will never donate to them again. read more

1/6/2017- Late last night I heard back from the vet at the Humane Society and they offered to perform the surgery to have the two tumors removed. Although it took quite awhile to get a hold of someone, I am satisfied with the sensitivity and responsibility they are taking. Rating updated from one star to four. Thank you! -- I rescued a 6 year old lab/retriever mix from the Seattle Humane Society less than three weeks ago. The staff and volunteers were very helpful and friendly during the adoption process and answered all of my questions, which I had many. During my second visit with her before adoption, I noticed two growths and inquired about them (one on her left hind leg, the other near her vulva area). I was reassured by the staff member that these were completely normal and she was given a clean bill of health by the vet, albeit being a bit overweight. Me not having had a female dog before, I decided to believe what this person said and went along with the process for adoption. Less than a week later I took her to my local vet to have her normal vaccinations done as well as a general checkup. When seeing the vet, she pointed out both of the growths I had previously inquired about and recommended I have them aspirated to ensure they were not cancerous. I agreed and had them checked the next day. A couple days later once the tests came back, the vet called to tell me that the tumors were cancerous and she recommended doing an ultrasound to see if they have metastasized and spread to her spleen, which is pretty common according to my vet. That is another $400 on top of the $300 to have the tests completed. I understand that having a dog can be expensive and they do require medical care. However, I trusted the Seattle Humane Society to be honest with me about any of the underlying health issues or concerns the dog I was adopting may have. If they had told me that there was even a possibility for her to have cancer and need some sort of treatment, I would not have adopted her. I have been in contact with the Seattle Humane Society and my vet as far as options on how to proceed. When I do get a person on the phone at Seattle Humane, I seem to get the run-around and no one returns my calls. I have lost hope that they will be willing to do anything for her, or even be willing to take her back so they can proceed with treatment. I am disappointed and heartbroken by this situation and fear that I may end up having to put her down because I cannot afford to have a multiple thousand dollar surgery performed. read more
