My husband broke his leg last year and still needs to use a wheelchair sometimes. When we found out that there was an ADA shuttle service through Seat Planners for SDCC, we were happy, since we wouldn't have to deal with rude people on the metro again getting to the convention center. On our first night, we went up to the desk by Hall A, and were told that since we didn't have a reservation, we'd have to wait around for another hour and a half. Then, when I tried to schedule a pickup for the next day, I was told that they didn't have any open times until much later in the morning, and that pretty much everything had been booked already over the last week. The flyer about the shuttles provided by SDCC states to make "advanced arrangements," but nowhere on the website or flyer does it state that you need to call a week in advance. We also saw that their management system for appointments was mainly centered on using sticky notes! We were also explicitly told that the regular shuttles that ran every 15-30 minutes would not be able to carry an electric scooter on them, and yet we saw several people have their scooters stored in the cargo holds of the larger shuttles. When we tried to do this ourselves, we were forced to wait an extra half hour while the drivers called ahead and were allowed to make an exception for us. We were constantly given inconsistent information and not treated very well overall. Seat Planners needs to seriously reorganize and figure things out for their disabled customers, because SDCC is already stressful, and their actions only made things worse for us. read more
