Went through TSA PreCheck at Terminal 2 (West checkpoint) and it was smooth and fast -- no need to remove shoes, belt, or laptop, so I was through in just a few minutes. Staff were efficient and courteous. If you fly out of SAN regularly, PreCheck is well worth it here. read more

Literally the anxiety that I have at the airport needs to be studied. But thank God that our trip to ATL to visit my husband's family was a literal breeze. Ok, it was a red eye, but I barely had to pause at security. All of the TSA agents were very friendly. Absolutely no issues.

Horrible experience with a newer and younger agent this morning. On the busiest travel day of the year, at 5am, we arrived early, tagged and checked our bags, and turned them into the bag drop at the American Airlines counter. The AA Agent checked our IDs, boarding passes, and verified TSA Pre-Check Status on our boarding passes. Now it is time for my new adult daughter to go through TSA Pre-Check. The young agent had the NERVE and POWER HUNGRY urge to gesture to her and proceed to tell her that she needed her last name changed on her boarding pass. My daughter, like all of us, has a hyphenated last name. So I guess he is in charge of TSA Pre-Check Status, Identities, and AA Advantage accounts now....because this young agent FLEXED on us tough like we didn't PAY for TSA Pre-Check Service and security clearance checks to verify that we were "Known" and Safe Travelers..Including all the legal documents that are required to be submitted and approved, verification fingerprints taken, and real-time application process photos taken JUST TO GET CLEARED. My daughter presented her CA REAL ID (which also includes a SERIOUS VERIFICATION PROCESS with LEGAL documents just to attain from CA, and all 50 USA states) and a supplemental college ID with her same verified lived and legal name on both. This TSA Agent did not care. She came back through the line defeated and we went to the AA Specialty Assistance Counter. At the Specialty Assistance counter for American Airlines, we met Christina, who was a very kind agent. She did not understand why the agent needed us to change my daughters last name, and she also said that if we change it in the system, it could affect her trip all the way across the country. By this time, boarding for our flight was 40 mins away, so Christina started to call several people who were her supervisors to get help on how to change the last name of my daughters boarding pass and AA reservation. The problem is that she had to resecure the seat that we paid for as well as re-verify the checked bags that we paid for at the same time. She made the change to my daughters last name, and we proceeded to go to the other TSA agent, who we know because we see her all the time when we check in for the flight. She saw us and let us go through, and everything was fine. She even was confused about my daughter's last name on the AA boarding pass suddenly not being hyphenated...to match her IDs. My daughter grabbed a bite to eat on the plane at a convenience deli in the terminal, since our plans to get breakfast were taken away with the hassle at TSA Pre-Check. Now the problem was, when my daughter got to the airplane gate, the gate agent for American Airlines was now confused since her boarding pass no longer matched the airline manifest for passengers names. Once he was able to see her ID AGAIN, and verify her name AGAIN, which you should not have to do with the gate, he allowed her to board. That was when we found out that her seat was not saved with the REQUIRED BY ONE JERK TSA PRE-CHECK Agent, change in her boarding pass and AA reservation name. She was able to get the seat, that I PAID UPGRADE FEES FOR, once the gate agent and flight attendants verified. And after all that she got to her destination across the country, and her bags were not there, because the change in the reservation and boarding pass of her last name did not match the manifest as well as her luggage tags, so they did not follow her from when we first checked in it at 5am...this day was a nightmare. And, now it is 2 AM on the East Coast and my daughter still does not have her luggage. TSA pre-check is a paid clearance and customers go through a rigorous security clearance process to attain this status. THERE IS NO REASON that a junior TSA Pre-Check Agent should be at Terminal 2 on the busiest day of the travel year and DECIDING that passengers change their names on their boarding passes nor reservations. It is not only demeaning, dehumanizing, and insulting, but it is ABSOLUTELY UNNECESSARY. IN THIS COUNTRY, we have Legal names, lived names, and they are vetted in the RIGOROUS LEGAL DOCUMENTS PROCESS OF ATTAINING A REAL ID AND TSA PRE-CHECK STATUS...both of which that cost a heavy fee (Real ID is about $46 and TSA PRE-CHECK costs $85). I AM ABSOLUTELY disappointed, displeased, and upset that my HARD EARNED Tax dollars is paying this man's salary. I will also be following up with a formal complaint to TSA. They may or may not read this to posture up on their response. Be cautious when you are using TSA Pre-Check, as what you pay for, and SCREEN RIGOROUSLY FOR, is not what you get. We have CLEAR and pay a PRETTY penny for it as well, but they don't have that for the Terminal 2 gates we were boarding on. read more

That was the most horrid experience of my life! I am careful and fly frequently, I had already cleared TSA on an earlier flight that morning, so when I came through this airport and they don't have connecting gates I wasn't thrilled to have to wait and go through TSA again, but when I was told the machine popped me for something in my groin area (excuse me, no I wasn't even wearing a tampon) I was suspicious. When the agent then frisked me and was VERY inappropriate in, not close, but actually had her hand in my "lady area" I was shocked and just felt awful. I hurried away, and grabbed my things and I just never had that before. I have honestly felt as if I needed to file charges for that. It was inappropriate and frankly out of line. For a PreCheck line this was quite packed. Not sure if it was the time of day (9:30am), or is San Diego that busy of an airport? The confusing part was the formation of the line. I wasn't sure where I was going, and then in the same line you have PreCheck and Clear. The Clear members walk on the left side of the narrow gated line, and the PreCheck walk on the right side... weird. read more

If you have pre check in San Diego, it's never going to take you more than 10 minutes to get through security. 10 minutes even feels like a stretch. Most times I'm able to just walk right through. Because of this, you have to be mindful of when your flight is closing bag check. I often fly Hawaiian and you need to have your bags in an hour beforehand. There are times that I've cut it close because I know how quick security is, but it's my bags that really need to be there on time! read more

Very straight forward, but might be confusing if you were in a hurry especially flying domestically, the self check in kiosks from American Airline and Alaska are in between the TSA check in, so if you were looking to put in your confirmation number, you might use the wrong kiosk then ended up going to the front desk anyway to get your boarding pass printed, finally if you have carry on, just make sure it's included so you don't have to check those bags and pay extra, and don't forget to use the regular gate instead of the global entry one ;) read more

While I wish that the San Diego airport offered Clear, we were able to get through the TSA pre-check line pretty quickly... And I have to say that security agent Rosso was quite a pleasure! She was diligent with the folks ahead of us and didn't make them feel bad when she pointed out that they were not TSA pre check. She was super kind and engaging with me and my 10 year old daughter as well... and she had super cute light blue glasses. All of this while working on Labor Day! So five stars for Agent Rosso and four for the San Diego airport experience... I am a fan of both and know I will be back again and again, thanks to how easy it is to fly from PHX to SAN! Its crazy how long the TSA precheck lines are nowadays. Yes, they are still quicker than going thru the regular lone, but it is still getting ridiculous. No fault of the TSA officers, they are doing the best they can. Still, it should never get this bad. Maybe there needs to be more TSA precheck lines or more TSA officers. Lousy jackass TSA agent made me throw away my brand new hydroflask bottle because there was water in it and said I couldn't drink it or dispose of it. Gave me the option to throw it away or dump the water outside and get back in line and be late to my flight. read more

Eh, the TSA Pre-Check line was longer than expected but still shorter than the regular line. Process was seamless. -- They only ask for the ID and not the boarding pass, which made things quicker. There should be a separate line for flight attendants and pilots. It was annoying when they had to squeeze through the narrow line for them to get to the TSA agent. read more

It's been a few years since I got on a flight to travel. The process for check-in was smooth and fast. Took me 5min to get through the TSA checkpoint prior to entering the terminal to board. Most of the shops are close and do not open until later on in the morning. Not many options available to buy snacks, coffee, or additional items. Overall a positive experience with great views and many charging stations and portable chargers available for purchase. My recommendation if you book an early flight eat before you board if it's a long flight like mine. read more

Prior to our flight to Spokane, WA, we of course had to go through the TSA checkpoint. The good news: It was very quick, smooth and efficient. The bad news: The TSA officer checking boarding passes and IDs was about as grumpy and rude as a guy could be. I get it, not the ideal activity at 6:00 at night. You'd rather be at happy hour or with your family. That said, this is your job. The job you chose. Perhaps you should've applied at the DMV where grumpy and rude are widely accepted. Every other TSA employee we encountered both in San Diego and Spokane were pleasant, courteous and cheerful. read more

What a joke. Everyone and their mother seems to have TSA Pre-Check these days. When the line is around the block at 5:30 am on a non holiday Monday you know it's true. I couldn't tell if the one TSA Pre-Check line split into two at the security screening belt or not. Caveat: If you fly Priority on American Airlines you can use the Priority line which is shorter than TSA Pre-Check and you will receive a Pre Check Colored Pass to enter once you pass the TSA officer. read more

Good times! We went through TSA PreCheck on a Monday night to catch a flight home to Sacramento International Airport. Through TSA my bag was pulled. I had a wine stop that resembled either a weapon or butt plug. While this was not pulled we did get some comedy with the attendant whom examined the bag that was pulled. Further they did take the Coconut oil (lube) from my bag- I thought it would be fine as it is a food product that I use for my hair. Per TSA because it is a lotion consistency they will pull it or needs to be checked. the TSA attendant whom helped us had a great sense of humor and laughed with us as I referred to the items as my butt plug and lube. Missed the flight and came back the next day to catch flight out went through TSA again; it was a fast and steady process. read more

TSA recheck is well run and efficient. i never have to wait long.. love that i don't have to remove my shoes kids don't need an ID to come through but i always bring their passports ...just in case. terminal 1 A sometimes closes pre check but this one has (knock on wood) always been open when i come through. read more

I understand "they are just doing their job" and all, but I really wish TSA had the authority to use common sense and courtesy instead of abiding by the rules so strictly. I was flying home from a wedding and I had a liquid (Schlitz cocktail) that exceeded the 3 oz maximum. I had already had a few sips of the beverage and it was probably almost down to 3 ounces, but they insisted that I could not bring it through security. I understand the rules, but they could have easily let me through. For the record, a Schlitz cocktail is a can of Schlitz served with whipped cream and a cherry on top. A great beverage for when you're travelling and need a little comfort! Just don't try to bring one through security at Terminal 2 at the San Diego airport, because the TSA workers will do their job. read more

Applied online, made appointment and showed up (followed directions to park) and was on a wild goose chase for a little over 30 minutes, resulting in more parking fees. Once I find the space, it was closed and another customer stood there waiting as well. We asked airport staff for help and no one knew where they were nor how to contact them. The review is for TSApre agent in the office, not the experience of using the TSAPre line My older son is doing a lot of flying back and forth to Palo Alto about 5 to 6 times a year. My husband and I decided it would be worth it for our son to get TSA Pre . I asked my son to check into the process of the application. He went online, filled out an application, and got an appointment to go in to the office to get processed. He was able to get an appointment 2 days from the day that he called. The day of the appointment: - My son and I located the TSAPre office, went in and only waited for 5 minutes. Melanie, the nice staff, helped my son as soon as she was done helping the traveler before him. She was very efficient. The process took only 5 minutes. - Fee was $85. Also, the parking fee at the airport was $6. Note: There is another location in Mission Valley to get process for TSAPre as well as the one inside the San Diego airport. In hindsight, it probably would be better for my son to get processed at the location in Mission Valley; we wouldn't have to deal with the parking and the busy airport crowd. - It only took 3 days to get the Know Traveler Number (KTN). My son went in on Monday. Thursday, he received a confirmation # via email. Speedy. read more

I had to confirm some info, take fingerprints and a pic, pay $85 and was on my way! Parking was easy right across the street in the structure. Cost was $2.50. I did my part by showing up on time for my appointment and had all of my documents... none of which were expired. I was in and out in about 15 mins. Easy peasy. I had the most pleasant ant experience and discussion with a Tse-Pre agent. Simply said my experience heeded was great.

My issue with TSA pre-check is that the standards change from location to location. Shoes on or off? Laptop in or out? iPads? Liquids in or out? One positive is that this location was open and sufficiently staffed, unlike Newark. We were able to get through. Today's instructions were liquids in but laptops out. The line moved slowly because of the usual confusion by people re: what to do and several people waiting until the very last minute to throw out their water bottles. This may be an unpopular thing to say but I think that the TSA PreCheck fee is too low. The cost of the background check itself is probably more than that alone let alone the funds needed to help pay for the additional (proper) staffing to keep the lines open the hours at each terminal, etc. The staff at Terminal 2 was nice. The line did move slowly though. There was a low number of bins. read more

I love having TSA PreCheck because: 1) You get to keep your shoes on 2) Your liquids stay in your bag 3) You don't have to take out your laptop And the line is significantly shorter. Even shorter than the First Class line. And sometimes there's no one in the line. However, my love for this TSA PreCheck has faded and I'm no longer the fan of TSA PreCheck at Terminal 2 at the San Diego Airport. Here's why... The TSA PreCheck in Terminal 2 near the American Airlines side used to be open all the time. Meaning it was open the same hours as the non TSA PreCheck lines. But for the past few months, due to staffing issues, budget cuts, or whatnot (each time I'm told something different), the line has been closed at night. This is a total drag because when you're already having to endure a red-eye flight, now you have to take your liquids and laptops out of your bag. Total pain. I had been told it closes at 8:30 pm so I made a point to get down here before 8 pm. But the line was already closed. Grrrr.... Tip: Instead of paying $85 for TSA PreCheck, pay $50 for NEXUS which gives you free GlobalEntry and TSA PreCheck. read more

What a breeze. No shoes off, no jackets off, and (usually), no line. Today's passage through TSA was painless and uneventful. There wasn't a line at all! Just strode right up with Boarding Pass and Driver's License in hand and then straight up to the x-ray machine. With TSA Pre-clear, they usually don't do that full body scan/x-ray of you, just your carry-ons. Easy peasy. If you fly with any regularity, it makes sense to spend the $20/year to gain Pre-clear status. Unless you are a repeat offender or serious recidivist, you should be good to go! My best experience with TSA so far! Fast and hassle-free getting through security at the San Diego airport. No need to open your bag and take out your laptop, don't worry about taking off your belt and shoes; just make sure your phone, change, etc is in your bag when it goes through the scanner. Just walk up and show your boarding pass and license then you are speedily cleared through security. My mind was blown that it was so fast, I was expecting to it to be slow as most other airports. Not to mention the agents were nice. Other airports need to use San Diego airport security as an example of how to handle security. read more

staff was very nice, but this is TSA/US Govt at it's best. Small office I went to in terminal 2 on the east side of terminal on 2nd floor. one lady is receptionist to check your passport and that you have credit card with same name to pay. Then you wait The other lady asks you about 15 questions that you answer in a computer. ONce you get back to the lady with the questions, you are 7 mins from out the door. This review is for the TSA PreCheck enrollment office. Melanie B (I can now guess what the B stands for) was extremely rude and short with me and every single person who walked in after me. I preregistered my three children for TSA precheck enrollment online. Two of my children age 13 had expired passports. The pre-enrollment website instructed me to bring these along with their certified birth certificates. I walked in without an appointment and she asked if we had one. I said no. There was one person in the waiting area. She dramatically grabbed her clipboard and said, "Well, I can't guarantee you will be seen. I am fully booked today and we need our lunch at 11:30". I told her we would wait. She was extremely annoyed and grabbed my paperwork. She asked for my childrens' state issued IDs. I explained they were 13 and told her I bought the correct documents as instructed on the enrollment website. She then said, "Show me the email." I told her I didn't have the email but simply followed the instructions provided on the website. "I know what the website says", she replied (but clearly ..she doesn't). She then told me she didn't think they would work but if I wanted to take the chance and wait, be her guest. We waited. And, I proceeded to watch her treat 10 more people the same way. Immediately after me, a woman walked in and was told she could wait but she doubts she would be seen before Melanie the B had to close for her lunch break. The woman explained she drove from far away and needed a moment to think. To which, Melanie the B snapped, "I can't guarantee you will be seen." The woman explained that she could be more positive and that she would wait. She took a seat next to me and whispered, "Was she as kind to you?" The next couple that came in for an appointment handed the B her paperwork. Melanie snapped again, "I need your marriage certificate." And when the woman asked why, she was told, "Because how else am I supposed to know your name went for X to Y." Then she yelled at a 4 year old who was with them bouncing around. Granted, he was bouncing all over in a very small room, but it is not Melanie's place to tell the child loudly, "Little one, stop running around.", as his elderly grandmother frantically searched for her marriage certificate. This went on and on for hours. Each time everyone was treated like dirt over and over again. Despite being busy, when she was not belittling every person who approached her, she was on what appeared to be a personal laptop turned away from everyone in the waiting area and separate from the one she typed things on when in front of people. Completely distracted that when the processor was finished, she would have to ask for Melanie to send the next one over every single time despite being separated by a half wall in a tiny room. The processor, however, was a gem. Super fast and actually had a sense of humor. We were eventually seen after about 30 minutes. And, the process was easy. Melanie would be better served working at the DMV. However, the little processing room is likely where TSA agents are demoted to serve when there are supervisors there to witness them interact with others in the public TSA lines. Precheck sucks in San Diego. I'm here before their advertised closing time and yet their Precheck lane isn't open. I was able to use the metal detector and keep my shoes on, but the laptop and toiletries had to come out. Such a waste of time. Only one person working the ID check stand and they took all the regular line people before the Precheck/First Class line. Is this what $85 gets you? read more
