I came here to specifically check off this box on my foodie list since it has been recommended by multiple YouTubers that I follow including Mike Chen (Strictly Dumpling). It is a good seafood wet market (officially known as Seaside Dampa Macapagal) especially because it had several species of fish and shellfish available that I had never seen before. I did think it was going to be larger than the 1 block of stalls that were there but nevertheless, it did not disappoint.
The beauty of this place is that surrounding the vendor stalls, there are numerous restaurants that all participate in "Paluto", the practice of cooking your products for you. In many cases, the product you are buying is still alive in the tank so once purchased, you walk less than 10 yards to a place, ask them to cook it for you (many different choices available such as butter/garlic; chili style; tempura style, black bean sauce, etc.) and it is brought to you within 10 min. It doesn't get any fresher than that!
Most of the vendor prices are within 50 Philippine Pesos of each other per kilogram and all of them try to pull you in by hurling marketing discount calls in your direction ("Sir, I give you big discount! C'mon Boss, buy from me!"). Based on that, negotiating for a better price is definitely recommended and I think it is probably expected. You would be a moron to pay the first price asked.
They price everything by the kilogram and the only regret I had was that I was by myself so it was tough to buy more than just a couple things in half kg portions knowing that I would never be able to eat all of it by myself. There were so many great looking options including some of the largest spiny lobsters I have ever seen, some bizarre looking crabs (apparently it was a "Coconut Crab"), and some fish that appeared to be mutated relatives from Alien. In the end, I grabbed some baby squid and some good sized shrimp all for less than $10 USD and was enjoying them about 10 min later for lunch. Definitely a market worth a look if you are in the area. read more
