I've stayed at many hostels throughout the United States and Seaside has become one of my favorites. The staff were amazing and very friendly. And I found Seaside to be an affordable, clean, and decent place to stay while in Hawaii. I had a conference to attend in the neighborhood of Waikiki, in the city of Honolulu on the island of Oahu. And I didn't want to pay $400 per night for a hotel room, which was the conference rate, so I decided to stay at Seaside which was conveniently located within walking distance to the conference hotel. Seaside is close to the beach, great restaurants, shopping, and other amenities, but just remote enough to provide some breathing room. If you haven't stayed at a hostel before, all you need to do is use your public manners and exercise your trust abilities during your stay. You share a room with people you've never met, but most people come with a very open mind and open spirit. You participate in a nice community and feel that energy when you enter. You share the refrigerator with others and trust your food will be there when you come back (and it is!). You share the kitchen, the dishes, cookware, coffee pot. You share a bathroom. There are lockers in the rooms to store your valuables. When you check-in you are assigned a number which tells you where your bed is in the room and the place to put your towel. During breakfast a few of us were chatting about the previous day's adventures or sharing recommendations of where to go. It's a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Quiet hours are enforced and I was able to get a good night's rest. read more

I travel to hawaii at least twice a year, and even single time I stay at Seaside Hostel. Yes - It happens to be the most affordable option, but what I love the most is the vibe - it's SO much fun to head back to the hostel after ending your surf session and end up making new friends while cooking dinner in the shared kitchen. The staff is great and friendly - the manager Georgia helped accommodate some date change requests very easily without any hassle. Last time I was there (July 2024) they were undergoing some upgrades to the rooms, also fresh paint on the building, new fridge upgrades - a welcome surprise since I was previously happy with the experience! I stayed here for 7 nights and I would have stayed for longer! This was my first time staying in a hostel and it was such an amazing experience. The room I stayed in was 6 girls and they keep it incredibly clean and tidy, even being near the beach. It was very quiet and calm being all women, but you get put in a groupchat with the coed hostels if you'd like so you a still socialize if you choose. There is no AC so during the day it is very hot, but at night the windows are all open and I honestly didn't think it was that bad plus there are a lot of fans. Workers were all so nice, especially Georgia!! The kitchen and common spaces were cute and clean, no complaints I would 10/10 go back. read more

This Hostel is blocks from Waikiki Beach and 1/2 block from bus routes. Walk 12 blocks to the Seven Eleven and get a bus pass!!! It is kept very clean and has a huge shared kitchen with two fridges. Wifi works in common areas and bedroom. Bring a lock. Large and small lockers available. The staff are professional, warm, and friendly. Additional towels and bedding available. There is an amazing couryard for hanging out in with several areas so groups can chill together. I am older than most guests and felt at home and welcome. read more

Cons and then pros: Cons: Things to definitely know before you book, that I was not aware of: 1) It must be made REAL clear in ALL placements (Hostelworld, etc.) that NO ONE under 18 is allowed in this hostel period, even with a parent in a private room. I have never been faced with this in my 60-70 trips to hostels. I got this "no one under 18" notice in an email just before check in. I tried to both call and email the hostel, to clarify, but neither was answered in TWO DAYS. Don't expect a timely response to questions. 2) The "private" rooms aren't really private. They have windows that look right out to the major walkway, so you have people staring right into your room, your bed, and your stuff. You can "close" the frosted glass slat windows, but there is no ventilation if you do and no air conditioning. 3) There is a floodlight right outside the window and no curtains for the room. You get serious light exposure at night. I had to hang a sheet from the top bunk to get some decent darkness. 4) The owner appears to be over the top on Covid, because, every other lodging I looked up has gone with Hawaii in NOT requiring tests or restrictions (except if you have symptoms), but not Seaside. They demand a test or vaccine passport, even though vaccinated people are just as likely to pass it on, as we now know. This info also came by email right before check-in. 5) It can be quite noisy, because it is in the middle of Waikiki. I am not a fan of hyper-commercial culture, and, besides the beach, this area offers an orgy of in-your-face consumerism. Not my thing. You might want to "get off the strip" if it is not your thing. This hostel is all about the partying, Instead of "we have been the spot for backpackers and travelers of all ages" (Yelp self- description-- not true as noted above), it should read: "We are a 'What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas' kind of place, not a family hostel".) In a way I am happy this did not work out for me. I stayed this night by myself, and the two nights with my son will be at the Ewa Hotel, for not that much more money away from the madding crowds and walkable to the zoo, Safeway, and Surfer's Beach. Pros: Staffperson Hind (pronounced like "wind") was efficient, laid back, and kind, and was reasonable and as accommodating as she could be. But she cannot make up for the bad policies she is forced to enforce. Another pro: Kitchen open 24 hours, and pretty well set up. Bedding was adequate. read more

Been coming and going from this hostel for the last 5 years... I always end up going back to it cause it's my home away from home! The staff are super friendly, kind and available for anything! Not just saying that to be nice but because no matter what they embrace you like family no matter what the circumstances are. I've gotten angry, I've cried (for my own personal issues) but there was always someone's shoulder that I could lean on! A shout out to Thomas and Robin!! for regards the other "staff peeps" there have been many other that come and go, you know your seasonal travelers, but dear to me now are: Little Red, Buffy, Cherry, Lilly, Van, Mr Old Fashion and Ms Moose's! ;) much love to them What makes a hostel a great hostel are not necessarily the facility's but the guests themselves. Those that do not enjoy their surroundings or other fellow travelers end up findings the smallest things to complain about and then making a tragedy out of nothing. for example: "omg there is a roach!" = my reply "what in the courtyard"?! dude it's Hawai'i and roaches are Hawaii's state bird!!!! how about: "it's expensive"= my answer "its still the cheapest hostel on the island" (a definite face palm here!!) how about " its dirty ", my answer "have you seen any of the other hostels on the island?! My guess is probably not... which means you haven't seen what dirty is!" You might ask :" How about all the negative comments on head butts, waivers and injuries?!" Well the answer to that is: the waiver exists for stupid people who harm themselves and then want to blame it on others (must I remind you that America is a super friendly Sue Nation: they got nothing better to do than sue each other ) and staff has a first aid kit, and they know a RN that lives nearby and they know how to dial 911 - all of this simply to state, they ready and prepared for the fumbling drinkers all you gotta do is ask for help My only suggestion is: go out to the beach, have fun, relax and embrace the moment, embrace the place, embrace the people - you'll enjoy Seaside if you really want to read more

I stayed at the Seaside Hostel for a week in Waikiki after a friend's recommendation and holy, this place is a gem! I was firstly greeted by the ever so kind Priska and was walked through the Hostel's adorable courtyard, full kitchen open for guests' use, then walked up to my sunlit room complete with fresh linens and towels. My friends and I enjoyed socializing with the other guests during their outdoor movie nights, had out first surfing lesson organized by the amazing Jack on staff, and loved the ease of Seasides prime location in downtown. Though this was my first Hostel experience, Seaside Hawaiian has now definitely raise the bar high for my Hostel standards in the future. read more

Ghetto-hostel in the middle of Honolulu, nice and close to Waikiki beach. Good - really friendly staff. Looks like free breakfast (ramen, bread + jam) and stuff. Free Wi-Fi. Lockers available, though the doors are held together by plastic panels you can probably bust open if you tried. Bad - no sockets in bar area outside. Roaches in the ghetto-dorm washrooms! One came out when I was using the facilities. I almost had a heart attack. These little buggers are yellow + black too in Hawaii. Makes me question the hygiene here. Oh yeah, and the shower was seriously beaten up. Yes you save a few bucks, but you get what you pay for. read more

I booked this hostel for two nights for private room using their website. I chose this hostel out of the others because it was the only one that had a private room with 2 people minimum (that I know off, I could be wrong). This would be the 4th hostel I've ever been to. I really want to love this place but there are just a few things holding it back. Some pros: - Great location! Close to beach, McDonalds, Starbucks, Jamba Juice etc! - Large sized rooms (not butt to butt which I have experienced in other hostels) - Decently clean showers (considering it's a beach hostel) - FREE beach towel, snorkel, body board rentals - $15 All day surfboard rental - free breakfast (but it's just toast with jam/butter, coffee & tea) Cons: - A bit of an annoyance that you have to deal with your own linens (but it's a hostel so I get it) - Ran into 3 cockroaches during my stay (they do try to keep you from having food in your room) - My bed squeaked so loudly and often at every little move I made, it was pretty annoying. I really love the quaint feeling the hostel has with it's little patio in the middle and it's two buildings. It's a nice change from the commercial hotels lining up the beach. I see so much potential in this hostel to be more, but it just doesn't quite cut it. I think beds need to replaced, and colored bed sheets could make it more fun. Just some renovations could really make this place from just OK, to AMAZING. Anyways, it's an okay stay for the location for the budget traveller. I definitely recommend it! read more

My friend and I stayed here for seven days while I was home visiting. $28 is way cheaper than staying at a hotel, that's for sure. I hate Waikiki because I'm Kamaaina (local) but since my friend has never been to the island I figured why the heck not stay here. This is the first time I have ever stayed in a hostel as well and was not sure what to expect. Maybe I am just a big kid but I loooove bunk beds! Always wanted one...never got one. Unless you count basic training. Booo!!! This place has a all female room with 6 beds (3 bunks), lockers you can put your valuables in (bring your own lock), and share a bathroom with stand in shower. There is no AC but there is a ceiling fan. They give you a towel and clean linen with pillow as well when you check in. If you need help finding anything on the island they have maps and bunch of info to give to help you. There is a kitchen that you can use but you have to clean up after yourself. Free wi-fi too. The people that worked at the hostel were all very friendly, just as the people that stayed there. If you are uncomfortable being naked in front of other people, are a shy pee-er, or do not like being around hippy looking people...this is not your spot. But that just also means you are not very open minded. You definately cannot beat the price, friendliness, or feeling of having a huge sleep over! I recently stayed here on a trip to the island for a total of four nights. The ambiance is nice, just expect to mingle with some other travelers. They have free snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, and beach towels for guests, which is a huge plus. They provide a very simple free breakfast of toast, jelly, butter, honey, coffee, and tea, but do sell eggs for $.35 each, oatmeal for $.50, and muffins for $1.00. You should really be eating pineapples and papayas because they're amazing in Haiwaii, just saying. There is a full-size kitchen, a huge fridge, television, and a large DVD library (who watches movies while vacationing in Hawaii?). The hostel was clean, of course there were some bugs around but hey it's Hawaii, no biggie. The beds do squeak a bit, I was happy my second trip there because I had the bottom bunk bed. Unlike 99% of travelers I have no interest in getting drunk and partying, so it was nice that the hostel enforces quiet time at 11:00PM. Your room has a lock and they have a locker in the office should you have something of high value. The owner is very kind and helpful, the staff is primarily travelers themselves who were friendly and nice. The best part is that you're a 5 minute walk from the beach in Waikiki, it's a great location. Stay here because it's clean, fun, and in a killer location. Here is a tip for ya'll staying 4 or more days. Those ABC stores all over the place sell a 4 day unlimited bus pass which you can use to get all over the island for only $35. In one word: bedbugs. In more words: it seems to be a recurring problem for this hostel; bedbugs. My roommate in the semi-private woke up with bites all over her body. We found the feces underneath the mattress and she caught an alive bug. I was not impressed with their cleaning and had a discussion with the manager about that, and now that I've read multiple reviews on different website complaining about this issue it looks like I was right; they don't seem to be able to get rid of the problem. I have stayed in many, many hostels in Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Australia, Europe...and I have never had to deal with a bedbug infestation. Also, I came back for one more night after a stay on the big island, and there was an issue with my reservation. I again booked a semi-private room, paid for it, yet was sent to a dorm room. When I came back the girl had left the reception desk, but her coworker checked the paperwork and acknowledged my booking was for a semi-private. She called in her coworker, who said I had not. I told her I had paid for it, but she looked in her computer and said I was not registered for a semi-private. I pointed at the paperwork her coworker had showed me, and she couldn't deny it any longer. She then offered me to stay in a six bed and refund the difference, because she had no availability and she wasn't the person to go about this (?). I didn't really respond, then she went to check on a room and it turned out there was availability after all. Get your sh*t together and don't lie to your guests. read more

Really great location for those who want to be in Waikiki. The beach and the strip with an array of stores and restaurants are right there - nearby are bus stops, the zoo, and the aquarium and Diamond Head are within walking distance. ABC store right downstairs at the corner (and everywhere). I arrived in the late afternoon and had to wait about 20 minutes to check in. Stayed in an 8-bed coed large dorm for just two nights. I thought that the room was spacious and clean enough, obviously nothing glamorous. I had really chill roommates. When I got to the room, I noticed that the water in the shower was running, and was told that there was a leak and they had informed hostel management, who said they couldn't get technicians out to fix it until the next day, I'm guessing because it was Christmas day. The water was literally gushing out - it was quite a leak.... with the drought here in California I found it very strange to be wasting that much water. Anyway, the next morning, the bathtub ended up flooding over and the bathroom floor started getting all wet.... management and cleaning staff quickly responded and came in with buckets and towels. They were really nice and apologetic about it, and luckily the bathroom wasn't out of order for too long. But seriously, it didn't have to lead to flooding. Wifi only available in outdoor lounge area. Free simple breakfast in the morning, but if you miss that there is a good, cheap fast food place right downstairs. I probably won't be staying in Waikiki again for a while, but I would consider this hostel again. Great price for the location. The people you meet and stay with will make the experience. The hostel is five-minute walk away from the famous Hawaiian beach. The location is the main reason to choose it I guess. The accommodation is quite decent, though simple. You basically have a room in a larger bungalow. Ours had bathroom ensuite, which I find very convenient. There is a large patio area with a TV set, hammock chairs and BBQ. It makes for a nice spot for random encounters with the other travellers to the island. From other perks, they give a free towel. There is also a basic breakfast in the morning, with a possibility to purchase some extra items, e.g. muffins or croissants, for just a dollar. The linen on the bed was not very clean, but I guess that is what you will get in an average hostel. And noises from the patio area may also be a bit disturbing for light sleepers. There are free lockers in the room, but make sure to bring your own lock if you plan to use them! There is no parking provided, but you can either leave the car on the adjacent street (quite impossible to find a spot there in the evening) or on the street running next to the canal north of the hostel. read more

I absolutely loved this place! My boyfriend and I went on a short trip to Hawaii January 2014 and were looking for a cheap place to stay. We're college students, we don't have fat bank accounts. It was my first hostel experience and after reading reviews about bed bugs I got really nervous. There were NO bugs of any sort. I also read in another review that the staff messed up their reservation. We made ours online and there were NO problems when we checked in. We booked a semi private room. There was a wealth of information about local places to go (tourist attractions and good beaches) and info about transportation in the common area. There are also two huge fridges and plenty of cabinets to put food in. Just make sure you label it, like they ask, or it will get thrown out. They also have free breakfast which is toast and coffee. However, the owner has eggs, oatmeal, and muffins that you can purchase all for less than a dollar. Our room was very clean and so was the bathroom area. There is a lot of space as well as a locked gate so when we rented bikes and mopeds we knew they would be safe. The only bad things I have to say is that there is no air conditioning and even though we're used to hot weather (we're from San Diego, California) it really sucked. They also could work on upgrading their pillows by getting new ones. Mine was really flat and I got a sore neck after a few days. Lastly, because the hostel is located in the heart of Waikiki, there is sometimes a lot of street noise. But with it being located just a few blocks from the beach, you cant complain. The hostel also has equipment that you can check out for free. Its really convenient because most places will charge you like $15 for snorkel stuff. Someone was complaining about not being allowed to have alcohol in your room but you can easily store it in the fridge provided. You can drink and eat in the common area so you don't even miss not having food in your room. There's no place to sit in the rooms anyways. Everyone was really respectful of your food so you don't have to worry about it getting stolen. All the people we met at this hostel were amazing too. It was so cool meeting people from around the world. Also with the way its set up you have plenty of opportunity to make friends and meet the other people staying there. If I am ever back in Oahu I will definitely stay here again :) read more

I've not stayed in a lot of hostel. This is only my 3rd time so I can't really compare it to other hostels. But, I've stayed at cottages, hotels, and condos in different Hawaiian islands and I can say that this is one of my favorite places. You'll probably ask why. It was a last minute Hawaiian vacation and didn't want to bother with car rental and I really wanted a low-key vacation. I just wanted the beach, some local food and a change of atmosphere. So I picked Oahu because of the public transit. I knew I was in for a really crazy Waikiki experience but what the heck! Seaside Hawaiian Hostel is conveniently located on Seaside and Kuhio with bus stops around the corner, a few minutes walk to Waikiki beach one direction and Ala Wai Canal in the other direction. (Ala Wai is a great place to do morning runs.) Food Pantry (grocer) is about 2 blocks away and an always packed udon place is a block away. You can't get any better location than that. I checked in and I was given linens and towel, I took it eventhough I packed my own. I picked the bottom bunk at Dorm 9. It wasn't squeaky but the mattress is a tad narrow for it. My pillow was so flat that I bought one at Ross which is down the street. (I hope someone is enjoying the plush pillow I left there.) The dorm was clean and so was the bathroom. The staff cleaned it everyday that I was there. There was a place outside the bathroom where you can hang clothes to dry. The staff won't touch this area so the whole 5 days I was there I had roommates that came and went and the same stuff remained hung on the pegs. The remaining girls and I decided that those beach towels have got to go so they advised us to keep our things on our bed while housekeeping clear the drying area. The common areas were kept clean as well. I think your hostel experience will always depend on how considerate your roommates will be. There was only one standout roomie who was there for only one night but what a ruckus she made. It got a little crazy too because there were 7 girls waiting to use the one bathroom late one night and someone decided to stay in there for over 30 minutes. Good thing, I was sorta an early bird that I avoided that chaos. Downside about this hostel is the noise, not the guests noise but the surrounding area. There's a bar behind the hostel and there are high rise condos surrounding the area . . . those party-ers, the hostel can't control. Street cleaners and garbage pick-up are another noisemakers but I just used them as an alarm so I can do my morning runs by the time the sun came up. Mahalo Seaside Hawaiian Hostel. This hostel has its good things and has its bad things. I met some cool people while staying here who I will keep in touch with. The staff is very nice , but they are also young people that work here , don't expect them to go out of their way unless you ask them. They are very much into their own " hostel worker " clique' It all depends on who you get in the room with you ..... My BIGGEST CONCERN and the reason why I checked out early was : BEDBUGS ! BEDBUGS ! BEDBUGS !!! I could not even risk getting bit by there critters. There were people saying they had gotten bitten and some girl even had a whole lot of bites everywhere !!! My roomate found on on his bed and killed it but I just couldn't chance it .. This is a hostel with travelers in and out ALL THE TIME , so I don't even know if they have a way around this... Just be cautious because when you get bitten by annoying bed bugs and have itchy bites through your vacation ..... 25$/night in ahostel seems sooooo expensive !! I told the owner why we were checking out .... and he just looked down ans didn't ask any questions... It seems the word BEDBUG is taboo here because at the end of the day . its a business....GO FIGURE. read more

I stayed in this hostel about a month ago with my girlfriend for a week, and it was awesome. It is a fairly nice hostel in terms of physical amenities - not fancy but does the job - but has a great vibe and resources. Definitely a great spot for younger travelers on a budget. What stood out most is the friendly nature of the employees and many of the other people staying there. Throughout the week, there were events - BBQ on Sunday, Tiki Tuesday, Pizza Thursday - that were both cheap, delicious ways to eat on a budget and a great chance to hang out with other people staying here. Afterward, many people went out together to go to bars once quiet hours began, which is a very short walking distance due to its close proximity to the main drag of Waikiki. I met many cool people from around the world there. Beyond that, there are great resources the hostel provides, such as beach towels, snorkel gear, surf boards, etc that can be borrowed for the day. There is a light, free breakfast, internet access, clean showers, refrigerators to store food, and a kitchen to cook it in. The courtyard outside is fantastic, and a great place to decompress before/after a day out. As I mentioned, it is in a great location as well - a short 5 minute walk to Waikiki beach, near plenty of bars, grocery stores, and restaurants, but nicely nestled away from random people walking by. The one knock on it that comes to mind is less than comfortable beds. I sleep very heavily and it didn't bother me, but my girlfriend had a few longer nights trying to get comfortable. So, if you have back/sleeping problems, it could be an issue. However, it was nothing terribly different from many hostels I have stayed at in Europe. Overall, this is a great place to stay for young travelers who enjoy meeting new people, a convenient location, and fun but not rowdy atmosphere. read more

At $19+ a night, you can't go wrong here. Its a hostel, for the youngings that don't mind rooming with others. My friend had a laptop in the hostel and it was fine the entire time. Bunk beds, clean bathrooms, internet and common areas that are a little dated but get the job done. Budget accommodation done right. Book online and ahead of time. One complaint: mattresses are covered with a easy wipe of type of plastic type of material so it gets sticky with the humidity but its do able. Bring hydrocortizone cream if you think you might get heat rash. read more

I stayed here for a full 6 nights about a month ago, many decent/cool people that I've met, people that worked here did their jobs, some of the nightly events they have were Mai Tai days, BBQ days, Burger days, Pizza nights, etc. for like $5. They have books you can borrow (traveler guide books too of Hawaii), movies you can watch on DVD, TV provided with DVD player outside in the lounge area, quiet hours are after 11 pm. The kitchen is useful with all of it's many seasoning, utensils, pots and pans. They have board games, a laptop with free wifi that everyone can share (20mins if there's a line), or you can bring your own laptop. It's VERY chill here but isn't all of Hawaii? They have snorkeling gears, beach towels and other things behind the front desk to borrow (just leave a card with them - it can be library card or grocery store card with your name on it). Helpful hint: Don't expect the office to open at 8am as it states. It's usually 9:15 or so when they come moseying into the building so that was a bit annoying. So, if you need any equipment to borrow for early the next morning, make sure to get it the evening before. Another helpful hint: I didn't get any bites from bedbugs so that was a relief after reading a couple of stories about these critters being found even at fancy hotels. I bought plastic twin sized bed covers with plastic pillow case too but it wasn't needed (their pillow cases don't have the plastic covers so you may want to get one of these - I didn't end up using mine). The bed itself has plastic covers, just make sure they're not torn or there's holes on them from wear and tear since the bugs can definitely crawl through. You may want to sleep on the top of the bunk too because the bugs can fall onto the bottom. Don't leave suitcases on the floor. I always always left mine in my locker (top shelf). Always check around your bed before putting anything on it or sleeping in it for a visual inspection to see if there are bugs. Happy travels! Aloha! =) read more

So, you're in Hawaii, there's gonna be bugs everywhere. That can't be helped. No points are knocked off for that. It's also not the cheapest hostel in Waikiki, at over $30 a night, and the mattresses are pretty heinous. Very uncomfortable. Breakfast sucks, but that's pretty normal for a hostel. The refrigeration and kitchen systems were pretty inefficient as well. It's pretty annoying that they put such restrictions on it, and that no one is allowed to have any food OR booze (really?! booze?!) in their room. HOWEVER! The people I met at Seaside were 239840498 stars. The staff members were very kind and friendly. The people staying at the hostel were awesome and I keep in touch with them still.. A cool hostel for sure. This place was a home away from home. All the people that work here are pretty awesome for the most part. Amenities to note are the free internet, free breakfast, free usage of all beach necessities such as snorkels, flippers, sunscreen, pool noodles, boogie boards, etc. They have a full kitchen with everything you could possibly need in terms of plates, cups, pots, pans, silverware, etc. They also have a pretty serious spice cabinet so no worries about having to buy those if you wanted to cook a decent meal at the hostel. Not only this but they have two full-sized refrigerators so you can store away perishables or leftovers. Everyone is usually respectful and they don't eat your food. They have books to read and movies to watch at your own leisure. A coffee machine, toaster, complimentary bathroom and shower for the day you check out. They also have a room where they keep your luggage stored for the day you leave. Weekly BBQ's for only $4 and you get a BUTTLOAD of food! And really good food I might add. They have an 11PM curfew but it's not a problem because you can actually get sleep at night! Hooray. I did like the fact that the beds were lined with personal curtains so that you wouldn't be sleeping or just laying there with others staring at you. Also, they have lockers for every person in the room. Some negatives are that it does get pretty hot and the rooms do not have A/C. Some of them have electric fans that are helpful and other rooms do not have anything at all. But overall, a great place to stay and it is only 2 blocks from the beach! Woohoo! read more

The staff was really friendly. And the location is awesome. Super close to shops, bars, restaurants and of course the beach. The bus was super close to. The rooms were clean and nice and had a lot of room. Lockers for everyone which I really liked. You need your own locks though. Breakfast was included but it was just bread, jelly and butter. But eggs, muffins and oatmeal for little money available. I really recommend that hostel even if the office opens quite late at 8 am. But it was fine! Really worth the money! read more

Positives: Friendly staff, with good deals on breakfast foods and kitchen resources. Plenty of board games on hand and lots of people to drink/party with. Negatives: I rented the semi-private...the best they had. It's a tiny room with a steel bunkbed and a thin mattress. No trash can and a busted window facing the noisy courtyard. No other amenities...seriously I have actually seen the inside of a jail cell that was more comfortable. read more

Nice Hostel in middle of Waikiki.. open air feeling.. good for surfers and girls from Europe.. easy access to buses to and fron airport.. hidden away in the back behind the Tranny bar and the Gay clubs but on the best street in middle of town.. What do you want for $15 and a bunkbed. read more

Great place. Bathrooms and personal lockers in each room. Amenities: free towels, toast breakfast, wifi, cheap beach gear rental (mats, surfboards, etc.). Great location in Waikiki, easy walk to beach, plenty of food/shops around the corner. The staff is organized and polite. The courtyard is peaceful, and the residents (of all ages) were very nice. I'd give it 5-stars, except I saw a couple roaches (it's Honolulu, not an operating room). read more

Nice place. Great fireworks walk on Fridays. Nice international scene. For being right in the heart of Waikiki the noise wasn't bad at all while i was there. Bus access to the entire island is great. Only $2.50 per ride or a 4 day pass for $25 read more

I had originally booked 7 days here, but ended up extending to 12. I have been to quite a few hostels around the world and I'd have to say this was my favourite. Accommodations: The majority of the beds have thick mattresses with a rubber outer covering (part of the mattress, not added afterwards) so your sleep is comfortable and bed bugs are not a problem. The hostel is kept much cleaner than you'd expect a hostel to be. At the time that I was staying, they were renovating some of the rooms, so it's evident that they are always looking to improve the accommodations. The courtyard (through which the rooms are accessible) is kept locked 24/7 and is accessible via an RFID keychain tag, so you're free to come and go as you please throughout the day/night. The courtyard had two gorgeous trees which provide refuge from the Hawaiian sun during the day. There is ample seating/tables so that you can always have a place to sit and eat/converse. There is also a television sitting outside which makes it easy to relax to a movie, etc after a long day at the beach. Hot water was never a problem for me, through conversation with the manager, I found out that the hot water system was recently replaced. Wifi is available throughout the kitchen and courtyard. I didn't have a problem with speed. I was able to achieve 850KB/s down, which isn't bad at all for free. The Experience: This hostel is located nice and close to the Waikiki nightlife and is a short walk to the beach. Majour bus routes have a stop just around the corner. Getting anywhere is not a problem and the hostel staff was willing to provide help with figuring out how to get you where you wanted to go. If they weren't sure, bus route maps and a laptop were available to check further. Free events are held frequently which make it easier to enjoy yourself as well as to make it easier to connect with other travelers. These events included trips to lesser-known beaches, hikes in areas that are not easily accessible without a vehicle, barbecues, and drink nights. Although they did appreciate a little gas-money for the hikes, they did not require any contribution and they never even asked for any compensation for the barbecue or drink nights, which included very generous portions. To sum up, this is a very well managed hostel that fosters a social environment making for a very enjoyable experience. I will certainly be coming back and cannot recommend it enough. this place is awesome. i came to hawaii on a total whim and spent four nights at this place! this was my first real hostel experience, as the ones i've stayed at in europe were like mini-hotels without activities or opportunities for socializing. i met lots of tight people here. if you are traveling alone like i was - just hang out in the courtyard all day and say hi to whomever is around and you'll make friends in no time. PROS: super close to beach. free breakfast in morning. kitchen and pantry with space to store and cook your food. snorkel gear and towels for rent (free). FYI: i had NO problems with bedbugs and no one mentioned them during my stay. i read they are pretty much a problem everywhere in hawaii (even fancy hotels), so i kept all my stuff in my backpack and put it in the storage locker at night as a safety measure. i checked my bed, sheets, and pillows for any signs of bugs before i slept but never found anything. obviously this is not high-end accommodation but you get what you pay for! read more

Great hostel with great amenities, location and staff. For being right in the middle of waikiki, the rates are fantastic and it is close to everything. My girlfriend and I had a pretty comfortable private room for $30 each per night. (The dorm rooms are about $20 per night) Free wifi, books, games, maps, snorkel gear, and toast/coffee/tea in the mornings. It has a wonderful courtyard to hang out in, and the quite hours are strictly enforced (11pm-8am) so you actually can get a good nights' sleep. I will go back if I am in waikiki again. read more
