My mom and grandmother were in town for my birthday and it was finally the right opportunity for a celebratory meal at Edwins. Across our party of four, we sampled from across the menu: the shrimp cocktail, soup du jour (potato leek), and mixed green salad were soon followed by steak frites, roasted salmon, and shrimp scampi. Everything we had was well-executed and flavorful. We followed with dessert, splitting a creme brulee and bananas foster across the table. We chose Loretta Paganini School of Cooking because of Loretta's outstanding culinary reputation, but also because of their wide variety of class offerings. When we saw the breakfast class for crepes, waffles, and pancakes, the choice was easy. This isn't something obscure and is easily replicated at home. The Loretta Paganini School of Cooking is located in a snug and cozy older house. They have a small shop of chef-driven cooking supplies and one main room for cooking classes. The main room is smaller and I imagine can fit 10 people. This was my first cooking class ever and I loved the slanted mirrors on the ceiling to see instructions more clearly. Chef Loretta is SO talented that its probably easy to forget we're just simpletons, but she was able to laugh off the mistakes we made as true beginners. We had no idea what to expect prep wise, but everyone in the class was given different duties for the dish (so you yourself were never making it all). We ate the food as we went along and chatted techniques. Her assistants were great about providing water, coffee and general assistance when Chef was busy helping others. My brother suggested Civilian Defense Academy and I have been thrilled with them. In February I started with the Learn to Shoot class and absolutely loved it. They keep the classes small and only work with a few people at a time during the range portion. That was fantastic because James was right there to watch everything I was doing as I was loading and shooting the various firearms he provided for practice. He was there to answer all of my questions and offer suggestions on improving my form and accuracy. Yesterday I attended the Concealed Carry course to get my license. James and Bruce are very knowledgeable and put everyone at ease right from the beginning. They make it fun and really interesting while still being very professional and making sure to stress the importance of safety - for you and everyone around you. The idea of sitting in a 10 hour class about firearm safety, mechanics, use, ammunition, maintenance and legal responsibilities sounded a little daunting but I had a great time. They made it so interesting that it seemed to take no time at all. Even the seasoned hunters in the class said they learned a lot and everyone in the class seemed to really enjoy themselves. I would not hesitate to recommend CDA to ANYONE looking to get their Concealed Carry License or simply looking to get comfortable with using a firearm. No one ever answers the phone.It goes directly to voicemail.They tell you to leave a message.You leave a message, they don't call you back.You send text that doesn't work. Not only has communication virtually impossible.The or times I did speak with someone whom I believe will see the owner.He was rude and unprofessional. He acted as if it was our fault. Mind you , it is now may and we are still having conversations about trying to get these two hours of maneuverability , practice rescheduled. When I told him fine, just give me my money back.He told me to read the website.No refunds. At that point I said, we'll find just getting rescheduled.A female actually sent us a text message that said he was rescheduled for a different date, we call to confirm this and was told he wasn't scheduled for that date.That was just a suggestion that they gave that date to other people as well , and it was no longer available. Finally, I got the owner in June.We waited 2 months for an appointment scheduled for June 30th.\nWe were told we should have checked the portal weld.The portal wasn't working, they had glitches.Every time we tried to get in there didn't work.So finally, he was reset and give a new account in the portal.He was scheduled for July 30th.We waited 2 months for this appointment.And guess what happened on July 30th?No one showed up again. In addition, because of the long time involved in this, his temp's actually expired, and he had hot to take the test again, because we've been dealing with this since February.Because the first appointment that was not met was il in early March. So tomorrow is august first and we still have not received what I paid for. And of course, the text message I sent has not been answered or responded to I have called 8 times since yesterday.And not one time have I gotten an answer. I saved the entire text stream from this transaction. I have over a 100 text and still nothing has happened. This is probably the worst disregard for customers or providing a service that I have ever seen.. Unless you want to be frustrated, aggravated swindled out of your money.Stay away from this driving school. I\nWould not recommend them if they were the last operating driving school on earth.
