I needed new tires on my Dodge Journey. I called around and this center was one of the only 3 places in the state college area to have tires in my size. Being on that side of town, I opted to go there. I got there and asked what the estimate would be to do that and replace the front brakes. They told me that just for the tires and the brake evaluation and alignment, would be over $1000. I asked how much more the brakes would be and the reply was "not much more," never a ballpark range of cost, ya know an estimate. I left to run some errands and about an hour later was called and was told that there was a "whole lot wrong" with my car, no doubt, I knew there would be. So I asked what and was told that nearly all the wheel bearing a needed to be replaced, and that the left side tie rod end and ball joint needed to be done otherwise they would not be able to complete the job. I told them that I needed a little bit, to which they replied that I "better hurry because time is running out." When I got there, they increased the estimated quote to over $1700 just for the brakes. The added parts were going to be over $2000. I told them that I didn't want the ball joint or tie rod end or wheel bearings. They told me that they couldn't do the alignment without them, which is not true. After discussion that with them, they agreed that their mechanics would do their best to align it. I then asked them if they could do one or the other, brakes or tires. Which would be a little cheaper. He told me that they couldn't do anything about the tires as they had already mounted them and couldn't take them off, as they would be "used." He told me that he could go with a cheaper brake option and lower the cost to $1300. Why wasn't that already established or brought up? I told them that I didn't want any brakes done and since they couldn't do the alignment they could take that off the invoice as well. He begrudgingly did, as if he would charge that to me and I wouldn't notice. When that was done, the cost was dropped to under $1000. I told them that I was extremely dissatisfied with their service and that I just want the tires put on and nothing else. Long story short; they never told me the cost of the tires over the phone, the actual cost was way over the estimate, tried to rush me, then I had to tell them to take off the services I didn't want from the bill. The only reason they get 2 stars is because they had my size tires and that the service was relatively fast. read more
