I was down in Orange Park for a monthly training and my oil change was due. Given that there's a…read morefew oil change places within a few blocks, I just pulled into Famous. I can't remember the last time that I've been to this franchise, as I usually go to Take 5, but I'll definitely never go back to this spot. The first alarm bell was that they made me get out of my car. I just want to get in and get out. There should be no need for me to get out of my car for a quick oil change. The second alarm bell was that the few men on staff were swearing up and down that I had been in to their shop recently (I had not) and that they had recently had a car "just like that." It wasn't just one or two comments, but went on for a few minutes and creeped me out. The third alarm bell was that after I filled out my information in the iPad provided and asked if my Veteran/Military discount was included, I was told that it should all transfer from my current profile. I didn't have a current profile. I haven't been to a Famous in many, many years. As I was waiting in their office waiting area, one of the guys came in to walk me out to my car and, basically, up charge me on stuff. I commute to St Augustine every day for work, so I'm staying on top of my oil changes and fluids. However, I'm fairly certain that my coolant needed to be topped off, so I let them do it. That said, I was told that my Veterans discount would "transfer over" and it wasn't included and that they were going to put the current oil that I was using in my car, which was non-synthetic, and they put in synthetic thinking that I wouldn't notice. When my bill popped up to be nearly $200, I looked at it and said that I don't put synthetic oil in this car and that kind of oil should not have been used. The guy at the desk took it down to a regularly priced oil change, but not without making comments in a smarmy tone like "the customer is always right" and generally making me feel like he got caught trying to upcharge me. I felt very uncomfortable from start to finish here. Everyone, ladies especially, avoid this place at all costs.

When you begin to question what I just said only to escalate the situation, especially as the employee, is not the way. I'm a customer looking at their phone waiting for service after driving back 2 hours into town in my work van. Then whistling/hollering at me from across the shop/property because now YOU are ready for me to pull into the bay is not satisfying...instead of walking up to my open window or tapping on my hood to get my attention. You can clearly see I'm not paying attention and you work in a shop dude, mechanics yell for/at each other all the time, how am I supposed to know that's my calling sir? To take offense to my last comment before you kicked me out, "there are other ways to communicate" is sad. Not even a "my bad" or could've simply cracked a joke about me being on the phone while "driving" to get my attention to pull in would've saved you the trouble with your organization and the loss of my/our business because I'm driving almost 1k miles a week needing an oil change about once a month, if not more. I was forced to go elsewhere and I really like the Valvoline instant oil change place they checked all my lights, blinkers, filled up my tires and have a much better/effective oil removal process. Take 5? More like Take Off, I'm outta here and never stopping back there are too many other places where my money and time are much greener.

In fact, when I am getting tired put on or oil changes, I am in the lobby for an hour or more and I hear the manager's interaction with customers. He is always respectful and he always seems to be trying to save him money, even though some of the repair repairs can be very expensive. I trust this location with my wife's car, my son's car, my daughter's car, and my car. A lot of the times I take it in myself just to make sure they take care of the things that I need taken care of, but there have been occasions where some of my kids have come in, and they have been treated with the upmost respect And they were never up charged. There is a Tires Plus location that is about a mile and a half from my house, much closer than the store, but I keep coming back here because the manager never oversells me, never tries to give me things that I don't need and always listens to what my concerns are.
