It was recommended that I have a deep cleaning procedure to my gums and a gum graft. I was referred to Dr. Avera by a local orthodontist to perform these procedures prior to continuing with orthodontic work. I was nervous and anxious in regards to what had to be done. Dr. Avera's explanations of the procedures that were to be performed were very clear, concise and presented in a calm, professional manner. Through the procedures his staff was attentive and concerned with my comfort, which helped lessen my anxiousness. Each and every time I have visited Dr. Avera, I have had a pleasant experience. He and his staff are friendly, personable, and professional. The front office staff is very efficient and return calls with any concerns or questions in a timely manner. In addition to my treatment, it was necessary for my elderly Mother to have some teeth extracted as well as deep cleaning to her gums. I took my mother to Dr. Avera because I had such a pleasant experience and felt that she would benefit from his treatment and care. Professional, caring, compassionate & transparent. Earlier this year, I had a referral to Dr Avera for abnormal gum tissue removal. I found Dr. Avera and his staff to be very professional on the phone and in person. The procedure and after care were clearly explained and the billing process was transparent. Based on my experience when my mom needed an urgent extraction for a failed root canal, I called Dr. Avera's office to see if they could help. Understanding the urgency of my mother's condition, they reviewed the schedule and was able to get her into the office within a week. Dr Avera reviewed her condition, confirming that the other dentist's diagnosis and was able to complete the extraction on the same day. My mother told me that she found Dr Avera to be very straightforward, funny and compassionate and she felt comfortable in his care just as I had. I have never felt more comfortable in a dentists' office ... and I have been to many. Most of my teeth have crowns - 10 porcelain crowns in the front and about 8 more gold crowns in the back. I developed a bacterial infection in the bone surrounding one of the porcelain crowns. Cosmetic crown work was done by others. Dr Avera explained treatment options so thoroughly, my wife and I were literally in awe. Details were endless. Now, Dr. Avera gets to the point - which, to some, might come across as being arrogant or pushy. But, he is NOT arrogant or pushy... just tells it like it is. Currently, I'm in a "hold" pattern. Anti-bacterial drugs, prescribed by Dr. Avera, seem to have taken care of the problem, for now. If the problem returns I will need to have a tooth implant to be done by Dr. Avera with a new crown to be done by others. Dr. Avera has been my periodontist for years and I can't say enough good things about him and his office staff. They are all very professional and have accommodated my appointment schedules. Dr. Avera's manner is professional as well as caring for my comfort during oral surgeries. Prior to any procedure, he covers what will take place during surgery as well as how to prepare and what to expect afterwards. He has a gal who talks over the financial arrangements with you prior to any surgery. He's guided me on how to best take care of my oral needs to help prevent any problems. My appointment yesterday (9-23) was in GV, the pre-visit and Covid questions were clear and appropriate. I felt very safe and secure getting a cleaning. I have been seeing Dr Avera & staff for several years and they are always professional and kind. Dr. Avera is the best DDS I have ever had. He explains everything. If you don't want the truth about your teeth and gums - and how to keep them or fix them, then by all means look for another DDS. You won't find a better one. It's hard to hear the truth sometimes. It was recommended that I have periodontal surgery to fix my gums and It wasn't an easy decision - It requires a commitment to keep up all the repairs - I get a cleaning every 3 months - because Dr Avera was so good at explaining what was at stake - I went for it and I have been so glad I did. On New Year's Eve, I feel and broke my left front tooth. Even though the hour was late and it was New Year's Eve, Dr. Avera saw me, stabilized my tooth and sent me on my way.
