Sean is the best kept secret in Wilmington!!! I consider him more an artist than my hairdresser. I have been following him from the east coast to the west coast and now back again to the east coast for the past 25 years! Not only is he extremely creative with a unique and fun personality, but he is reliable and affordable. He takes time to listen to what you want, but also to analyze the shape of your head and direction of your individual hair growth. He is honest and spends time educating you about ways to keep your hair looking its best. As someone with long straight red hair, he has been the only one to consistently cut my hair straight as my hair grows in challenging angles! He also does an exceptional job recreating my natural red color. Wilmington is extremely lucky to have him. My advice is to make an appointment asap with Sean and establish your relationship as I promise you this is one hair experience that you will never forget!!! Sean Clay is a master craftsman. He took my unruly mop and made it into something that not only looks healthy but can be replicated at home. I appreciate the time he spent with me, talking and discussing what he was going to do, how he was going to do it, and how I could maintain the look on my own. It took me two years to find him, and I am so grateful I did. The hour-long drive to see him was WORTH IT. Much to my dismay, the day after my visit with him, I found out my family and I would be moving to Minnesota. I am saddened beyond words that I only had one visit with Sean. Before I met Sean, I was getting my hair cut at great clips. I always thought that a hair cut was a haircut and they were all the same. After meeting Sean, I have found out that cutting hair is a art. Within the first five minutes of meeting him, he knew more about my hair and how it worked than I knew after I had it on my head for 25 years. You are also not paying for just a hair cut, you are paying for an experience. He is very funny and very knowledgeable of a lot of subjects. You will not have a dull experience while he is cutting your hair. He knows everything about hair and can help you reach whatever goal it is that you have. I've been going to Sean Clay for years now, and if something ever happened to him and he couldn't cut and color my hair anymore, I don't know what I would do! I mean, if he moved, I guess I'd have to move too! I used to pay a lot more for way lesser quality. Sean Clay knows hair. He can just look at hair and tell you what color you need, what cut you should have, what products you need. He uses quality products and not the harsh stuff that other stylists use. Sean is wonderful! This exceedingly tall person was my stylist for 3.5 years until he relocated east. In addition to being technically gifted and a master with color, Sean is honest and will try to stop you from being your own worst enemy. He listens to your opinion, but if he thinks a style or color will not look good on you, he will tell you so. If you want someone to flatter you while you keep on with your same boring style, Sean is not the professional for you. If you want a partner to help you look your best, Sean is the guy. Sean is great, he has helped me develop a new style and is always able to work around my busy schedule. As an executive chef my hair has to stand up to the heat of the kitchen and I don't have time to mess around with a lot of maintenance or styling. Until returning back to his NC roots Sean Clay cut my hair for the past 12 years in San Diego. Literally every cut and trim (every 2 weeks) for 12 years. I wouldn't let anybody else touch it. Sean is like family to me. His relationships with his clients goes far beyond just being a customer. He truly cares and loves his clients. San Diego's loss is Wilmington's gain. I went to another stylist for 10 years and when she went on maternity leave, I found Sean Clay and never went back to my old stylist. My hair is so healthy now that I'm not having my hair treated with harsh chemicals and it looks great no matter what color I change it to (I like to switch things up quite a bit).
