She then charged me $115 total and refused to adjust it coming up with all of these extras she threw in that I did not ask for. My scalp was not properly cleansed and she called the five flat twists an upgrade style. I won't get into the other elements that were unprofessional. I am writing this review on behalf of my sister who is so upset and disappointed with this salon…read morethat she could not write it herself. Initially, my sister went and thought they were great; she went twice and this was her third time going. However, during her third visit today, she noticed that they used a shampoo with a relaxing agent. Her card that she gave them specifically asked for K18 products and "relaxer" was NOT circled on the card. When she was getting her hair washed, she could smell the relaxing agent and assumed it was the person next to her in the bowl. She specifically asked that they use K18 products on her hair, and again, it was circled on her card that she gave the lady. My sister's hair is natural, and has been natural, for over 10 years. It is very thick, 4a hair, and she is keenly aware of what a relaxer can do to it and what it smells like. Not only did she smell the chemical, but immediately after the wash, they were able to part her hair with ease, which never is the case even after detangling her natural hair. Because the individuals who wash the hair and the hair dresser do not speak English well, my sister waited to speak with the front desk after her hair was done. When she politely spoke to the front desk about her concern and asked whether K18 products were used, the front desk associate did not even ask the hair washer and instead insisted that they did not use any sort of relaxing treatment on my sister's hair. To reiterate, she could literally smell the relaxer on her hair and was concerned. Anyone that has ever had a relaxer or has been in a salon around it knows exactly what it smells like, as the smell is very potent. Instead, the front desk associate insisted that they use high quality products, which was not my sister's concern and entirely irrelevant. Once she got home, she continued to smell the chemicals. I went over to her house after the appointment because she was so upset and even I could smell it. My sister then finally tried to wash it out herself to begin the process of repair. Her hair was bone straight after the wash. Again, she has very thick, natural, 4a hair. It is beyond evident that they used a relaxing agent shampoo and not only that, but her hair is breaking off and parts were coming out in clumps. Would not recommend this salon to anyone that wants to maintain the integrity of their hair. My sister now has to focus on repairing the damage they've done and waiting years for this relaxer to grow out. My sister only puts K18 and Olaplex products in her hair. She is incredibly distraught.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my service at this salon. At the end of my service…read moreon January 18, 2026, I was quoted $420 for a blowout. Yes, you read that correctly--$420 for a blowout of my natural hair--no extensions, no color, and no relaxer. The only thing included was a "Botox" hair conditioning treatment and trim. After pleading with the owner, Carmen she reduced the total owed to $370. I had this same service in 2023 and 2024, respectively at this very salon. The most I paid at this salon in 2023 and 2024 was $250 (still very high, but I paid it). For context, I have 4c hair and I had just taken it out of cornrows and combed it out. Maybe she was frustrated at the effort it took to straighten my hair? I can tell she's not used to dealing with African American hair textures. The majority of the customers had 1a-3c hair. When I asked her about the price increase she first claimed that she was running a "Special" when I came in last. She then blamed the tariffs for causing her prices to go up. I partially blame myself for not inquiring about the price of the service before I was serviced in 2026. I walked-in, got serviced and asked for the price at the end. However, I feel that she took advantage of me not asking the price beforehand and just made up a price at the end. It's not like her prices are listed online or posted on the wall in her salon. I understand that it's normal for businesses to increase their prices, but I couldn't fathom such a drastic increase from $250 to $420 for the exact same service. This is price-gouging at its finest. Further, If you have 4c hair, you need to RUN, not walk away from this salon. They can't handle coarser hair textures. They will yank and pull your hair and then tell you to "relax mami" when the highest temperature is used on the blow dryer to straighten your hair.

For a time I had moved to a city further away and I started going to a different salon. That other salon really did some serious damage to my hair! I started going back to Carmen's salon and ever since then my hair has grown so long and healthy. I have naturally curly hair and when I get my wash & sets and blowouts done here it looks fabulous! (see picture attached). And when I wash my hair again at home, my curls are intact and still healthy. I don't understand why people are leaving bad reviews because you won't find a better salon in the whole DMV than this one! You can tell she uses quality hair products and cares about her customers hair. For the people complaining about the prices, if you don't want to pay for a professional service then just stay home if you can't afford it. She will assess for any damage and communicate with you clearly every step of the way in your hair care journey. The salon also looks very clean and modern.
