I was very pleased with my experience at Donan's recently! I went in to get box braids mid-waist length and had wanted to try out a variety of colors for my upcoming birthday. I brought along a photo reference. Two stylists, Nonno and Donna, worked together to do my hair and found the right shades of black, brown and blonde. They did a great job! The appointment took about 4 hours and was easy to schedule as well. Very happy with my hair!

I was looking for a braid shop closer to home and I stumbled upon Donan Hair Braiding. I did my online investigation and then contacted the owner via text to inquire about the price for medium sized Senegalese twists. I was quoted $180 which includes the hair. I inquired about the 25% off discount for new clients listed on Yelp and was informed that they can no longer offer it due to the impact of Covid. I received a confirmation text after booking my appointment with new Covid guidelines including wearing a mask and no use of blow dryers in the shop. The day before my appointment, I received a text reminder as well as a Covid screening questionnaire. I requested to receive a braider with a gentle touch and was ensured that I would. The day of my appointment, my braider was a few minutes late but the owner contacted me to let me know that she was running behind. However, when she arrived, she sanitized, put on PPE and began preparing to do my hair. Amy, my braider, started my hair at 9:30am and was finished around 1:30pm. It was just the two of us until about 12pm when another braider and customer arrived. At the end of the service, I was quoted $185 which was $5 more than the original quote but it wasn't too big a deal. The braids were a bit tight but manageable and I had to return the next day to fix one of the twists that was loose. I contacted the owner, Josie, who gave me an appointment for the next morning to fix the braid. The owner has great customer service and works hard to ensure that you have a great experience. Overall, I had a good experience at Donan Hair Braiding.

Very friendly, very clean, and the communication is all there! I went here last Sunday to get my hair in box braids at 9:00am, my stylist was running just a few minutes late and I was called and apologized too for the delay, which was appreciated! (She was only maybe 3-5 minutes late) when she arrived she got right to work and did a beautiful job on my hair. I have bi-racial hair so I understand box braids can be challenging to put in, she made sure I was aware that the style will not last as long on my texture before starting to just to make sure I knew, and communicated with me throughout the process to make sure I was fully satisfied with my look. I don't get braids often but this is definitely where I will go in the future. I highly recommend!

My hair looks amazing i got knotless box braids to my butt Mia did great i love it so much best my hair has ever looked

Worst salon experience ever!!! For context, I booked an appointment for Fulani braids at 4 pm. I even showed the hairstylist inspo pictures of how I wanted the hairstyle to turn out. Once she finished with the back and started on the cornrows everything went downhill. The line for the first cornrow she made by my ear was slanting downwards. I showed her the picture again and asked her to please make the lines horizontal instead of sloping downwards, like the picture I showed her at the beginning of the appointment, but she said I shouldn't "compare whats on my head to things I see online" and that she was "choosing to part my hair according to my headshape". The audacity. A bunch of BS excuses she chose to make instead of admitting she was wrong. What's the point of you asking for and me showing an inspo picture if you're not gonna try to follow it? She then proceeded to get visibly annoyed and passive aggressive with me. It's like I had to fight tooth and nail to get her to take out the one braid and redo the part. She just kept deflecting and I had to keep reiterating politely that I wanted horizontal parts and showing her the picture to prove that what she did looked nothing like what I asked for. Finally she took out the braid and made the part horizontal. After about 2 more braids I noticed that the cornrow lines, though now horizontal, were not straight. It looked like she didn't even care to use a comb. They were so egregiously jagged you would think a child did them. I politely told her that the lines were not straight, to which she started gaslighting me and saying they were. I think this lady honesty took me for a fool because anyone with working eyes could see these lines were not straight. I was literally in shock that she tried convincing me that what I saw in the mirror were clean, neat, professional-looking lines. Even the receptionist admitted the lines were crooked when she asked for a third opinion. I'm so happy she admitted that because it was clear the stylist had no intention of fixing them until even her own colleague sided with me. She finally caved and took them out. Again, she made it known that she was annoyed the whole time she was redoing them. She sighed repeatedly, sucked her teeth, got rougher with my head, just tugging and pulling harder. She ended up saying she couldn't do the cornrows nicely on my hair because of my hair type and length (my hair is 4 inches blowdried btw and full and I've seen cornrows done on shorter, thinner hair before). Another BS excuse instead of admitting she was doing a rushjob. I would've appreciated her telling me she couldn't execute the hairstyle upfront when I showed her the hairstyle but I guess she just wanted to waste my time. She herself after seeing how ugly the front was coming along, admitted to not being able to do the Fulani braids neatly and offered to finish off the front of my hair in knotless box braids instead of cornrows. And with the back of my hair already in box braids plus the fact that I had to have my hair done by the next day, I accepted. Not to mention she kept mentioning that she had an appointment at 6 pm she had to go to. In my head I'm like I'm the customer, why are you putting this burden on me knowing you're the one who could've easily declined the 4 pm appointment if you knew ahead of time you had something at 6 pm. After coming back from a phone call at one point towards 8 pm, she told me that she's in a tough position because she has somewhere to be and she's running late. Mind you we're the only ones in the shop at this point. I wonder what the point of her telling me this was and what she expected me to say????? I was definitely not walking out of there with my hair unfinished because she decided to be unprofessional and bad at planning ahead. Fast forward 3 days later, and I notice that my hair is already coming out of my braids. I kid you not, hair is sticking out of 80% of the braids. This woman couldn't even tuck hair into braids. And 9 days later, braids are already unraveling. My hair is falling apart and it's been only 9 days!!!!! I'm so tired of geling down the pieces of hair sticking out of each braid one by one everyday I'm thinking of just taking down my hair altogether. I mean for godsakes what is that stylist even there for? She's rude, condescending, has no patience, and most of all NO SKILL. Just a horrible stylist and person. You couldn't even pay me to go back. And I'm telling everyone I know to stay far away from this place.

I needed my hair done last minute, and I was mad that I had to drive from Indian Head, but I was happy they were available.

From the shampoo (that includes a fantastic scalp massage), to the braiding (not at all too tight and she checked in to make sure I was OK), to the styling everything was GREAT! Kendra even sells hair, so it could be a one stop shop for all your hair needs. The ONLY downside would be that you're going to pay for a great service, but so far it's proved to be worth every penny. If you need to get your natural hair or weave together RUN, don't walk, to Kendra Kouture Hair!!!

When I texted her back saying I was already there she said she was on her way. For a partial highlight and shaping it was $125. After the consultation I opted to just get the shaping. She then charged me $115 total and refused to adjust it coming up with all of these extras she threw in that I did not ask for. My scalp was not properly cleansed and she called the five flat twists an upgrade style. I won't get into the other elements that were unprofessional. I rarely leave a review but my overall experience was so poor I had to share.

If we're being honest, good help and good hair is hard to find!…read more Enter Happy Tresses, where I found beautiful hair and an amazing stylist, Charisma, who also happens to be the owner. Charisma has the sweetest spirit, she listens to what you want, is extremely knowledgeable about hair, and I can't say enough about how fair the pricing is. You will be hard-pressed to get a sew-in for under $350 in the DC area, but you can tell Happy Tresses is mindful of the working woman's price-point and standard of quality. I should also add Charisma did the best cornrows I've EVER had in record time. My sew-in laid so flat, the style still looks brand new 5 weeks later--I honestly don't want to take it out, but I digress. I haven't tried the bundles yet (because I already had hair before I made the appointment), but the Brazilian Island Wave and Indian Steamed Curl are right up my alley and next on my list. She also makes some gorgeous/stylish wigs and I think I'm going to have to break down and buy one. Waldorf is a bit of a hike for many, but it has been absolutely worth it. I have a natural hairstylist already but Charisma definitely gained a loyal client for all my weaving needs. Thank you!
