A circuit breaker tripped. We went to Home Depot to find a new breaker. Myriad choices complicated the search. As we were discussing our failed breaker with the HD sales aide a fellow on the aisle stepped up, said he was an electrician and offered advice. He was wearing a Seal Beach Electric shirt and identified himself as David. He asked some good questions and told us what we needed. He told me to call him if we needed help. We bought the advised breaker elsewhere (HD did not have it), and installed it. However, the new breaker also tripped. I called David who advised to remove all loads from the circuit, and reset the breaker. We did and the breaker still tripped. I called back and set up an appointing one a couple of days. It then occurred to me that several lights on the circuit were two- and three-way, and one or more might still be set to on. We tried those switches in different patterns and got the breaker to close. In a few minutes we found the offending short and fixed it. I called David to cancel the appointment, to thank him and to offer to pay for his time. David was, as he had been all along, gracious and professional. He said he was happy to help and said no charge. We'll be referring all of our future electrical work to Seal Beach Electric and David. Thanks! read more

I did not hire Seal Beach Electric but I learned a valuable lesson to get a SECOND OPINION if the first answer is NO. The owner of SB Electric came to give me a quote but I never heard from him again. I interviewed at least 6 electricians for my project but Seal Beach Electric stands out clearly because the owner is the ONLY electrician who told me that 2 of my requests were IMPOSSIBLE. 1. He said it was impossible to install a new circuit for my microwave oven. His recommendation was to move my microwave oven to the laundry room- not an appetizing or sanitary solution. Another electrician came to give a quote on the same day and he laughed uncontrollably to hear this. He quickly found a better solution - to reroute the electric circuit from the laundry room to the microwave oven, a distance of a few feet. 2. Seal Beach Electric also told me it was impossible to reroute my cables in order to Remove the soffits from my ceiling. I knew that this was not true because my neighbor had gotten their soffits removed a few days prior. All the other electricians I interviewed said it was entirely possible to reroute the wires in order to remove the soffits. They explained that installing accessible junction boxes was a common practice to accomplish this. I also asked for an outlet for the end of a new kitchen peninsula I was planning, so it would be compliant with current building code. However, SB Electric was not familiar with this code and said he didn't think it was necessary. I am glad that all of the other electricians were knowledgeable about the building code requirements, which is essential to get City approval on a building permit. read more

Rossmoor resident & very satisfied ... Seal Bch Electric increased power from 100 amps to 200 amps & split system into 2 boxes. David W. replaced and upgraded old 100 amp electric box at the rear of the house (will still be used as junction box for household circuits), and placed another new box on side of house to be the Main box. Main will be used for the pool, HVAC, solar panels, & garage circuits .... & lines from pole to house will now hang along side of house instead of hanging over pool. Will be adding future outlets in garage for electric cars, hobby kiln & landscape lighting. Came on time, courteous, cleaned up afterwards, explained everything, & answers his phone. I had to give myself some time to cool off before I wrote this review... I wanted it to be sober, and not an emotional knee jerk response. It all started when he arrived for our appointment. I was in my office when the doorbell rang. It was a hot day in the summer and I took a few seconds to put on my shirt. I opened the door and he impatiently asked, "We had an appointment, right?" I was taken aback, but shrugged the rudeness off. We walked into the kitchen where I needed the light installed. I had it partially out of the box on our dining table. (It was a West Elm Mobile Chandelier, Large, Antique Brass) He instantly said, "I don't put things together." And "I'm pretty expensive per hour, you don't want to pay me to put it together anyway." If he would have taken two seconds to look at it, he would have seen there is no assembly required, everything is on swivels that you tighten into place with a small hex key. Ok, fine, I told him I would configure it. I showed him the recessed light above the table where I needed the light to be hardwired. He said, "I don't do drywall work." I'm not an electrician, that's why I hired him. I was confused why he would say that because he just needed to take the can out and the top/base of the light was wide enough it would cover the hole in the ceiling. He told me he could rig it up without removing the can but wanted to do it properly. Sounded good. I went back into my office to work. I could hear him humming and singing (?) which sounded a little creepy, but whatever. When I came out he had torn large gashes around the hole in the ceiling to remove the can and had done a horrible spackling job. This blew my mind because, if he would have asked me, there is a large attic space above it, large enough for a person to stand in, that he could have just removed the can from instead of tearing/pulling it down through the ceiling from below. He asked me when I wanted him to come back and finish the job. Baffled, I asked him to come back as soon as possible later in the week. Two weeks later, at 7:00am on a Saturday morning, I was awoken by a text message from him demanding payment. I responded saying I was happy to pay him, but we needed to get the job done first. Earlier that week, I had sanded and painted the damage he did to my ceiling. The damage was so bad I had to design, and find a fabricator to make, a custom ceiling medallion to hide it. About a week and a half later he finally showed to do the final wiring. He didn't even make the ceiling medallion flush with the ceiling. He left about a 1 inch gap. He said something to the effect that it was ok because it looked like it was floating. Then he stared at the ceiling and said, "I like light." Yeah, I think we all do. This all cost me roughly $200+ dollars when all was said and done. I should also state I initially mentioned that I had other small jobs that I needed him to do, but he didn't seem interested at all. As if they weren't worth his time. This guy is the product of having no yearly performance reviews, no manager or boss checking quality of work, for many, many years.
