Unfortunately, that changed this year. In March 2026, I had a crown done and later reviewed my Explanation of Benefits (EOB). I discovered that I had been charged significantly more than my responsibility under my Delta Dental plan. What followed was weeks of phone calls with both Delta Dental and Rossmoor Dental, reviewing claim details, contracted rates, and plan documents. The office eventually issued a partial refund, but it wasn't until I filed a formal grievance with Delta Dental that the remaining overcharge was acknowledged. Delta Dental ultimately ruled in my favor and determined that I was entitled to additional reimbursement. Because of that experience, I reviewed a previous crown procedure from February 2025 and found another substantial discrepancy between what I was charged and what my EOB showed I should have owed. I likely never would have discovered it had I not been investigating the more recent claim. I also reviewed a treatment estimate that my husband received for an upcoming surgical procedure. When I compared the estimate to Delta Dental's contracted rates, there was a discrepancy of more than $800 on one of the procedure codes. After seeing that, my husband canceled the appointment. Another concern was the constant recommendations for additional services, treatments, and upgrades. While I cannot say whether those services were necessary or not, after uncovering multiple billing discrepancies, it became difficult to feel confident in the treatment recommendations and financial estimates we were receiving. The actual dental work was generally fine, and this review is not about the quality of the dentistry. It is about transparency, billing accuracy, and trust. After 9 years as patients, it is disappointing to have spent so much time correcting billing issues that should not have happened in the first place. My advice is simple: review your EOBs carefully and compare them to what you are being charged. It may save you hundreds of dollars.

The dental hygienist who regularly does my teeth cleaning is also very kind, skilled, and very friendly. She is always friendly and chats with me while she cleans my teeth to put me at ease. This office is conveniently right between Ralph's and target so running errands is easy. Doctor Vu is probably the most kind & humble human being that I have ever met. He doesn't believe in upselling and instead listens to you, offers what he recommends, what can be done, and how to meet in the middle if money becomes an issue. He never pressures unnecessary treatment either, they just form out what is recommended and you can decide what you'd like to have done from there. He does amazing work , extremely gentle and overall such a kind person. His work ethic sets a standard for the whole office, as all of the assistants & hygienists are so nice and understanding. They're happy to answer any questions and always try their hardest. One of the first things I look for in healthcare environments is cleanliness & this place checks all of the boxes. It gives a more "homey" vibe versus your typical medical office. They're also great with kids! The tv on the ceiling helps calm anxiety (even for adults) and they do a little show & tell with all the instruments which give a great introduction and builds a good foundation without the fear of dentists. There is almost never a long wait time and they try to set a perfect amount of time needed for your procedure. My mom has had 3 implants done, two crowns and a root canal and very happy with all the work done, including all of her emergency visits that they fit her into the schedule.

My schedule can be quite unpredictable, but Ashley was always accommodating and flexible, making sure that my appointments fit seamlessly into my busy life. Ashley is incredibly knowledgeable about Invisalign and dental care in general. She provided clear explanations and answered all my questions with patience and expertise. Thanks to her guidance and support, what was initially planned as a two-year treatment was completed in under a year! Her skill and dedication made a significant difference in my treatment journey. 100% chat GPT helped with this review but she's an awesome RDA that's great to work with, as well as the the dental practice. I highly recommend Ashley to anyone seeking dental care, especially those considering Invisalign.

I specifically wanted a UCLA-trained dentist because I have always appreciated the techniques, attention to detail, and level of care they provide. I am so happy I found Huntington Beach Prosthodontics. Dr. Janelle Cheong did my cleaning, and she was incredibly thorough, kind, and gentle. She carefully examined every tooth, identified any problem areas, and took the time to explain everything to me. She never made me feel rushed, and I truly appreciated how genuine and caring she was. You can tell she really cares about her patients. I also saw Dr. Favian Cheong to repair a cracked filling, and I think that's the real test of a dental office. He was exceptionally gentle. I honestly didn't even feel the numbing injection. Throughout the procedure, he checked on me constantly, made sure I was comfortable, and gave me small breaks when I needed them. I also had a white spot on one of my teeth that I didn't think could be fixed. Dr. Cheong explained that it was actually a small surface cavity and was able to treat it quickly without any numbing. He explained everything he was doing and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. I've always struggled with going to the dentist because of a traumatic childhood experience. On top of that, I've recently been dealing with health issues affecting my ears, so dental visits have been especially difficult. This is the first office in a long time where I truly felt at peace. Another thing I really appreciated was the front office staff. They carefully reviewed all of my treatment costs before any work was done, so there were no surprises or confusing billing afterward. One thing that really sets this practice apart is that the dentists perform the cleanings themselves, with assistance from their dental assistants. That level of involvement makes a noticeable difference. It was one of the most thorough cleanings I've ever had. Dr. Janelle Cheong and Dr. Favian Cheong recently took over this practice, and it shows how much they care about providing exceptional dentistry. They are warm, genuine people who treat patients with kindness, respect, and compassion. If you're looking for a dentist who is honest, highly skilled, incredibly gentle, and truly takes the time to care for you, I highly recommend Huntington Beach Prosthodontics. I had an infection that Dr. Aftabi took care of immediately and adequately. My first impression was good so I decided to move my family to this office for routine cleanings. Unfortunately, that was a bad decision. I still apologize to my family for this. Going to cleaning appts made us all very anxious. While Dr Aftabi was very fast he was not gentle at all. Funny the office is called Gentle Care. We always came home with bleeding gums, not from our hygiene but from the poking at our gums with the tools. I was white knuckled the whole time in the chair, thinking to myself he's fast it will be done soon. Totally the horror of seeing a dentist. I also feel like additional unnecessary procedures were done to bill more. The receptionist was always nice to me but very brash. I have seen her practically yell at other patients about payments with no bedside manner. Ironically her name was Karen. We ultimately ended up at a different dentist office, which I love by the way! Gentle Care would not release one of my son's x-rays because of billing issues with our insurance from like a year prior. They never said they were having an issue. They were able to get insurance issue handled and released the x-rays. Alls well that ends well I guess. Stay away from Gentle Care.

When I read what the doctor at Westgrove wrote about how he ran his practice, I was hopeful that I would be "treated as family" with "understanding and empathy ". My first impression of this office didn't start off very well. The receptionist wasn't very friendly and seemed like she really didn't want to be there. I thought maybe she was having a bad day and was still optimistic. I didn't wait long to be seen. I was taken into a room and was set up for X-rays but had to move to a different room because the X-ray wasn't working in that one. The assistant was very nice and made me feel like my comfort was important. When I saw the doctor he said I didn't need extractions and I just needed fillings. One tooth needed a crown. I left feeling happy because I could keep my teeth. I made an appointment for 2 days later to get the crown. I didn't even care that the crown was $200 more than my previous doctor. Even with my insurance. I arrived today for my appointment and this is where it all went downhill. I have an anxiety disorder that I have to take medication for. I have to have my husband in the room with me for all dental procedures that require drilling. This is considered an accommodation for a disability. I am 61 years old and have never once had a dentist refuse to accommodate my disability. Until today. I was told by the dental assistant that "it was against office policy" to allow my husband in the room. She said the doctor could prescribe me a sedative if I needed it. Mind you, this is all being told to me at the front desk. They did not care about my dignity enough to talk to me in private nor did the doctor bother to speak to me in person. I told the front desk ladies that I couldn't have the procedure done if they wouldn't allow my husband in the room. The assistant shrugged her shoulders and said sorry. So I left in tears. I was humiliated. Going to the dentist is a really vulnerable and difficult thing for many people. I was really disappointed in how I was treated. If you have disabilities or need any special accommodation, this isn't the dentist for you. How would they care for a child that would need their parent in the room? How would they care for a someone that might need a person to translate during the procedure? Or any other person like myself that needs assistance? This was so wrong on so many different levels.
