He told me all about the popular items, and gave me a sample of clam chowder. DELISH! Let me add that it's all freshly made & it's no water in his clam chowder (from his mouth), it's made with cream! I ordered the shrimp Louie, clam chowder, and carrot cake cupcake. I easily coulda spent $50 ordering seafood here, lol. Food was great! What to eat when your husband just got out of the hospital 17 days after a hip fracture? He wants a ribeye steak and you want seafood, cause it's Friday, right. Seafood Express may not be fancy, but when it comes to flavor they sure do deliver. My Bay Shrimp sandwich had lots and lots of adorable sweet baby shrimp swimming in a light dilled mayo sauce. Genova soft roll of course! DH was a professional cook for many years and he loves my Clam Chowder full of chunky quahogs, so let's check out theirs, a crowd pleaser. Good ratio of medium-sized chopped clams to small cubes of potato. Just right milk to broth ratio and thickness. Glad I ordered the quart. I remembered to order carrot cake thanks to other Yelpers' recommendation. What came was a Texas-sized cupcake chock full of carrots, coconut, raisens, a bit of chopped nuts and all the right spices. Now the frosting can make the deal with CC. Happy to report absolute solid cream cheese flavor, not overly sweet. Winner! Lastly, DH's steak. He likes rare but when I called in to place the order, the friendly voice told me, "Sorry but all the steaks are grilled ahead of time." I saw a speck of pink in his when I was offered a bite, so medium well, oh well. He said it was dry and chewy. However, please note: when I was given this very generous bite, then stopped to grab a photo, someone was mighty quick to ask for it back and wondering about the delay! I'm here to say it was very flavorful, a generous portion and a bit dry. So we'll be back, I'm already eyeing marinated crab, the lasagna with a generous Tri Tip for Himself. 4.5 stars. I wanted to give this place a five star review but I couldn't get past the small amount seafood items on their lunch menu. I wish I wasn't watching my weight because the carrot cake is homemade and looked beyond Delicious!! I was sad to see such tiny shrimp in my shrimp sandwich. The roll was extremely fresh and soft. There was a little to much Mayo dill sauce as you can see in the photo but it was a mild flavor and tasted good. I was told their tri tip sandwich is five star like their carrot cake. They also sell lasagna which is homemade a d looked good too. I just expected more fish options due to the business name. Next time I will try the Tri tip and I may have to change my stars after that but until then this gets a solid four star from me. read more

Just discovered this place last week! OMG! Amazing clam chowder! I went there Tuesday of this week alone (got the tuna sandwich! Yum) and brought my husband home the clam chowder. He loved it. Just attended a crab feed where Seafood Express provided the crab. Oh man. What crab! Just decadent. Don't know what seasoning they use on it -- garlic, herbs, lemon...I know I'm missing something else. It was amazing. Now I know what those Romans were on to with their vomitoriums. I live in Sacramento, but I dutifully drive to Stockton every year just so that I can partake in the crab feed at the local Buddhist church. Service was fantastic, very attentive and always coming by to refill on claws and bodies if it got down to just the spindly legs. Next time I'm in Stockton (and not here for the crab feed), I will have to check out the actual restaurant. read more

It was my first time here today, and I was surprised how attentive all the workers were. Most Stockton restaurants don't have that quality. I seriously don't know why it took me this long to come here. I wish I knew about this place years ago. As soon as my uncle and I walked in we were greeted immediately. OMG the place is the shit...I mean it it is shit...after attending another function where Seafool Express catered the event. I was disappointed when being ignored when I asked for tongs to pick up food from a serving tray and not of course receiving them. I don't know many businesses stupid enough except for Stockton Waterloo Gun and Bocci Club to serve food in which a large group of unfamiliar people have to pick their food by their lip smacked hands. In other words when you eat crab and lick your fingers you share that with everyone else when you pick up new crab. 10 percent of the healthy people around you have a harmful bacteria living on the skin. Many healthy people carry bacteria and viruses in their lungs. Should we continue to share food without making an effort to clean our hands every 3 or 4 minutes. If the SE only would make an effort to clean up their act they could actually be a great source of catered seafood products. I will see about changing vendors for the next year's church function. read more

3 Stars... A-ok is the best I can give this small diner. Food was ok, nothing outstanding. I had clam chowder: Amount of clams and consistency was ok. Missing flavor. Had to add salt. I would have tried their tri-tip sandwich..but they were out. They were out of all beef products. To be fair, I arrived about 1:25 pm and they close at 2 pm. I settled for the shrimp sandwich. They did not have enough shrimp prepared for a sandwich so they had to 'defrost' more. The shrimp mix was served on a soft french roll. The shrimp tasted fresh...the roll also was fresh. But again, not a lot of character to the sandwich. Just a shrimp sandwich. For sides...my choices were potato salad (partially house-made) and chili. Opps, out of chili. So I chose a double portion of the potato salad. Potato salad not good. No distinct flavor...potatoes not the right texture. I might go back to try the tri-tip sandwich. The nice lady said to call ahead to make sure they still have enough to make a sandwich...or she would hold enough for me. That was nice of her. It's all about individual tastes. If you have not tried this place, it would probably be worth your while to do try it. Note: The 'dining area is VERY small. They also offer 'to go'. This is more of a commercial operation that caters and supplies crab for crab feeds. They also sell seafood retail, pickup or delivery. If your organization wants to earn thousands of dollars in one evening, contact them to help you organize a crab feed! I have now been here three times and had the same thing all three times. Why change what works? My regular choice is the Tri-Tip sandwich and a small clam chowder. I have to preface by saying I am a soggy bread hater. The Tri-Tip sandwich gets a bit soggy by the time you get where you are going but who cares! The flavor of the meat and the great bread makes up for a little sogginess. The clam chowder is the best in town. The clams are never chewy, the broth is not too thick or too thin, the potatoes are perfectly cooked. I will continue to come here on a regular basis. I stopped here after yelping while on a biz trip to Stockton. When I ordered the tri-tip and clam chowder I was told these were the most popular items on the menu. The chowder was warm, creamy and delicious. The potatoes and clams were not overcooked and gave the soup an outstanding texture. The tri-tip was juicy and STUFFED with perfectly cooked meat but I had to add salt to draw out some flavor. I also saw a tuna sandwhich prepeared that looked absolutely scrumptious. In hindsight I should have probably stuck to seafood given that it's their specialty. As a market there was also a variety of rubs, marinades and freshly frozen seafood right in the store. The crab is good and the marinade is well balanced. HOWEVER... A word to the wise if you are planning to buy your own cracked crab for a private party. If you order, say 20 lb you will only receive about 10 lb in your bag at pickup. You will have paid for 20lb, because you are paying for the whole crab. They remove the big shell and the trash inside. After cleaning you have lost 1/2 of the weight you are paying for. So your $6 per lb price just jumped to $12 per lb. Of course they don't tell you this... these nice people just let you get the surprise when they hand you the bag. What other business does this? Pretty much all crab outlets do this deceptive practice. So, after my last visit in December, I went to Costco and found cracked Dungeness crab for $6.99 lb., actually paying for what I was given. I made my own marinade based on their ingredients. Guess what? Tasted great, and I didn't feel ripped off. Of course Costco is probably previously frozen, but so is Seafood Express..... did you expect freshly caught? So the next time you go to a benefit crab feed, know that the only ones making out at that feed are you, and the crab supplier. The charity is losing out. read more
