I was really hoping for a great Thai meal, but it turns out Sweet Basil Thai Bistro has merged operations with a seafood spot. Unfortunately, the quality of the Thai food has severely suffered in the process. We ordered the Crying Tiger and specifically requested that the steak be cooked medium. Instead, it was served completely rare, which ruined the dish for us. The execution just was not there, and the Thai food overall was a huge letdown. From looking at their online profile and the menu details, it is clear they are now operating primarily as Seafood Boiler. We did not try the seafood boil, so I cannot speak to that side of the menu--perhaps that is where their focus is now. However, if you are coming here expecting good Thai food, I highly recommend looking elsewhere. Save your money and skip the Thai menu. read more

The staff members were friendly, and the food was still warm by the time I got home. I got the family combo with shrimp, mussels, and crawfish in the "mix" sauce. Unfortunately, the crawfish was pretty watery, the mussels were small, and the shrimp were soggy. It might be because I ordered takeout, maybe the seafood tastes better when dining in -- but the "mix" sauce just wasn't for me. I personally prefer Kickin Crab a lot more. This had to be some of the best Cajun peel n' eat shrimp and crawfish I ever had. Originally I came here to try the clams and chips combo because for the longest time I couldn't find a decent place to get some fried clams on the menu. Everyone always has fried oysters, but not so much with the clams. Here, though, they had it and I swear to the gods I'll try it next time. But this time the shrimp and crawfish were calling me. All the examples were huge; they were less like shrimp and crawfish and more like Seafood Boiler's atomic shrimp and crawfish. It was more like Attack of the Fifty Foot Shrimp and Crawfish. And the seasoning and the sauce were perfectly matched--tangy, tasty, and not timid when it came to soaking into every nook and cranny. The only thing I wish is when I had asked for Hot level of spice when asked by the server, I should have gone for Extra Hot instead. The Hot was kind of timid and lacking bite. Next time I unleash the Hounds of Hell on my seafood boil. The place is great. It's sort of in a horseshoe configuration with a lot of tables and booths for all size of parties. The decor and ambiance was inviting and whimsical, with a lot of sea shanty-inspired decorations. All the staff were very helpful as well-refilling drinks, clearing buckets of shrimp guts and crawfish detritus, and making sure I was having a good time. I only wish I could have said more, but I was too in the moment of trying to cram 1 1/2 lbs. of boiled in a bag seafood down my gullet. Went here on Saturday night and the place was packed. Fortunately they made it easy and took our reservation. Started with the wings which were small and rather way overpriced for $10 for just a few pieces Crab fried rice was next and it was amazing. Perfect char with adequate ingredients, super stuff. Creole pasta was tasty but the pasta was so overcooked, it would have been perfect al dente. Lastly the star of the night was the Mega combo we ordered with a mix of all the sauces and it was delicious and not too spicy even for my kids. My only knock is that the dungeoness crab should have been cleaned better. It still had the lungs in it and no one eats that obviously so I was a little embarrassed but had to point that out to my guess to remove it. Service was super friendly despite the busy night . Everything was good, as expected the shrimp with heads and shells on were cooked nicely, a different texture then shelled. I wpuld have given 5 stars but I saw the table next to us had gloves, not sure if they brought them themselves but we weren't offered any. They also don't have wet wipes to clean your hands after peeling your own seafood, that would be nice. I hate using the bathroom at seafood restaurants because the sewer often smells but theirs was ok for hand washing. It's very messy eating sauce covered shrimp you peel yourself.. There were 2 of us but there was probably enough for 3 people, we took some left overs home. read more

I love that the shrimp comes in a little copper bowl sort of and the flavors seem so authentic and less artificial than other seafood boil places.
