I was in town for one week and am in the process of learning to kiteboard. I spoke with Bob (the…read moreshop owner) and the instructor, Jaxson, about my skill level (beginner, got up on the board and moving forward during the last lesson I had) and goals prior to arriving. My first lesson with Jaxson was not good. He was not prepared from an equipment/communication standpoint for the lesson. He had only a waist harness (no seat harness) for a beginner lesson. He brought only one size kite, which seemed too small for the amount of wind we had and my body weight. He brought only one size board, which was ~20cm smaller than the board I used during other lessons. It is my understanding that larger boards are preferential for beginners. He asked me if I wanted to wear a helmet (yes, I am still learning). He did not bring an impact vest. He did not bring a method of communication (ie BbTALKIN). Whenever I would ask Jaxson a technical question, his basic response was "that's just how it is". I am a very technical person and I appreciate understanding how things work. I like to know the details. When I tried to dig deeper for further details, I could sense him getting frustrated. He would just reiterate what he had already said. After our lesson, he sent me a text stating that I wasted his time and money because I misrepresented my skill level (I told him I was a beginner). He also stated he was upset with me because he bumped me ahead of other students that had been waiting for at least a month for a lesson (I did not ask for this). If you want to learn to kiteboard, please go elsewhere or you will be disappointed. I wasted my time and money (and excitement). Please don't waste yours!

Our group of jet skiiers included everyone from parent/child combos to adult couples and even expert jet skiiers. My wife and young daughter went on the banana boat experience since my daughter isn't old enough for jet skiing. They had a blast getting a ton of ocean spray in their face while being towed behind a motor boat (make sure to wear goggles). My son and I shared a jet ski and I was really impressed. They are certainly powerful (we got up to 60 km/hour), but have some impressive built-in safety features. There is an auto-break that applies whenever you approach the jet skiing boundaries or get too close to another jet ski or other boat. As a novice, I really appreciated that feature. The staff was uniformly friendly. The location is nice, located next to a public beach that we relaxed in afterwards, as well as a couple of bars (note you can't drink before jet skiing). There isn't a ton of parking, so factor that in as needed.

I've gotten awesome service from them - whether it's booking a lesson last minute, or asking for a touring yak pre-seasons. Their little shop is adorable and in a perfectly serene location right on the bay. I can't tell you how much this counts for me - city docks and slips are just un-fun and their shop feels like my favorite put-in back home. They are both experienced paddlers and chatting with them is just like chatting with any of the sea kayakers in my paddle club. The Lil-Ass Bay (I'm sorry, I just can't help it) is also a great paddling spot ! With extremely limited boat traffic, and a refuge to it's north, kayaks can relax a bit and focus on observing the wildlife without having to keep their head on a pivot for speeding boaters and fishermen. These same reasons also make it a great place to take sailing lessons and let the wind carry you a bit. I have to admit that I've never actually paid attention to the prices ahead of time. You can tell when you're dealing with Jen, Mitch, or any of their helpers that they are going to be fair and reasonable. So I've always just gone out, come back when I wanted to, and paid and every single time I've been happily surprised at the price. Even the sailing lesson was more affordable than I expected. Paddling here is like paddling with a friend. Will definitely be back on this trip and many future ones. Quite side note about sailing, yes, they do have some rules about sailing as another review posted - not being able to jibe can be a little bit annoying sometimes when you really just want to run or reach down a bit, but it allows them to keep the sailing accessible and affordable to more people, which is important. Can't wait to get back out there again.

This time I rented two double kayaks for 1 hour at $30 each or $60 total. I also rented one single kayak for one hour or $20. Our total cost was $80 for two doubles and one single kayak in total. This time we traveled south in the bay since the current was moving North. That made it easier for us to kayak back to the kayak base. We returned within one hour. I also purchased a Coastal Kayak hoodie for $40. We agreed we will return here again.

There were no issues with the rental until I noticed that my charge card was charged $500. Upon questioning why the price was $500. They told me that the web page was in error, the price had increased, and the web page was being updated. (Yes my error, I never confirmed with them that the price was as documented in their webpage) It is now almost 3 months later and their webpage still indicates a price of $350 for a week rental of a 6x12 mat. If you must do business with them be careful of getting the price in writing before agreeing to anything.

The staff was so patient with getting everyone together, and kept smiles on their faces the entire time. All of the gear looked very new and was clean.
