Listen! I have been searching high and low for a place that has basa fish and this place not only has basa but damn near every other fish you can think of. Including my other favorite, red snapper. The menu has a ton of options. I kept it light and just ordered the basa sandwich and a side of fried okra. Love me some okra! The basa sandwich did not disappoint! They give 3 nice size pieces of fish. Perfectly fried. Not greasy. It was hard to tell what all I could have on my sandwich since that wasn't visible on the menu but the owner insisted I could build it however I want. So I did mustard, lettuce, tomato, cheese on a bun. I got my tarter sauce & hot sauce on the side. She served my sandwich w/o the cheese due to it not over powering thr flavor. I was too hungry to care so I ate it anyway. I can eat it with out without but since she didn't charge me for the cheese, I didn't complain. It was so good I never sat it back down once I picked it up. Sandwich in one had, my free hand grabbing the fried okra bites. The fried okra was also fried perfectly but could have used a little more flavor. Sometimes it's tricky with okra bc too much seasoning will make it unbearable. I'd rather it have less seasoning than too much. Would order it again! I also grabbed a lemon pound cake. Not sure it if was actually lemon and couldn't say anything while there since I ate it once I got home. The size of the piece was huge but was more on the dry side and didn't taste lemony. Could have been traditional pound cake. They have a lunch special for $10 I saw on the street sign while leaving. I'm definitely coming back! Damn near once a month if I can. Solid spot- solid food. What stood out was the gator bites. Seasoned well but I wish I had a dipping sauce for them... service was good - the hostess was somewhat friendly. When her regular customer came in she got really friendly. We got a flounder sandwich, perch sandwich and gator bites. My sandwich was stuffed with fish and the tarter sauce was a nice compliment. Good selection of seafood and while I've only tried some fried fish and shrimp, it's all been pretty good. Prepared as you order with a just right amount of light, crispy breading and the tartar sauce is good as well. Only downside for me was the catfish being skin-on. On this Saturday afternoon I went to the Sea Hut. I ordered 3 items seafood. You get to pick which 3 items you would like. I picked the shrimp, oysters, and Catfish. If you want the Catfish filet you must say Bone-In Catfish or you will get Catfish nuggets. This place is the real deal. They ask you how you want your oysters fried (light,medium, or hard). I opted for light. They were cooked to perfection. Everything here was good. They were so nice. The waiter and chef are so pleasant. It is a breath of fresh air to go into an establishment and find the people pleasant and friendly. Next time I'm in the University I would definitely visit again. I've passed by this spot for years and never ventured in, thinking it was a seafood market! Located smack dab in the middle of Five Points in Monroe lies this seafood spot. Modest decor but a warm, friendly hostess greeted us. She was doing double duty as she was the server, too. She rattled off the menu like it was a nursery rhyme! I selected whiting, steamed veggies and fried zucchini. I was trying to load up on vegetables to "counteract" the fried fish. Food is cooked to order and arrives steaming to your table. Three pieces of hearty whiting surprised me on the styrofoam plate. The whiting was really good. My steamed veggies required a shaking of salt which I never do after something is cooked. I went to lunch here with my son and teen grandchildren. It was my first visit but definitely won't be my last. We had the black bass, flounder and porgies between us and granddaughter had the wings. I hated for the meal to end. I have to say it was the best. And those hushpuppies ! They came out looking like onion rings. Sweet and crunchy as if cornbread met funnel cake and produced an offspring. So bummed we didn't take pictures to post because you would head on over there as soon as you saw them. But don't fret, I'll be sure to snap a few my next visit. The waitress was the best I've ever had. She explained everything and was very attentive without being that type that interrupts your meal and conversation. Friendly yet very down to business. Loved it! It had been a long time since I had black bass. It was crunchy, delicious and super fresh. I hope to get back there before I leave town. We ordered the double fried combo with jumbo shrimp, basa fish (first time I've ever even heard of it & it was AMAZING), french fries, fried okra, & an extra side of Lou's spicy slaw. The portions were generous & the food was fried crispy to perfection . Even the sweet tea here is done right, just the right amount of sweet! Been passing this place for years and after reading reviews decided to give it a try. Boy are we glad we did. The personable service was great. The sanitation grade was excellent (I always look at that). And the food was outstanding. Never had Basa before but after Rosey talked us into it We don't think I will ever eat flounder again. The portion size was very generous. The hush puppies are wonderful. Both owners are serving and make you feel very welcome and appreciated as customers. We WILL be back. Cute little place, very clean. Only about 5 or 6 tables, it seemed like a lot of people do take out. Lots to choose from, great options. My dad got a flounder sandwich, my mom ordered the Whiting meal with coleslaw and fried zucchini and I ordered a cheeseburger and hushpuppies. Everything was great. The only disappointment was the buns for the sandwiches weren't toasted but the food was still delicious. My moms fish was awesome! The hushpuppies tricked us because they looked like onion rings. The Bassa and hush puppies are wonderful! Take out is great but eat in for the great R&B music. Plus, the owner is the nicest man you will ever meet! Don't let the exterior fool you, there is amazing seafood waiting just inside the door. Everyone knows that the south is famous for deep fat frying, but the owner of the Sea Hut has it down to a science. This is a must-try for anyone who loves southern fried sea food. I am updating my review to lower a star. The food is great, but the lady at the front counter is consistently rude to myself and my friends. I sensed a bit a rudeness the first time I ordered over the phone- I asked what were the mixed vegetables and she replied, "ma'am its a mixture of vegetables" I brushed it off. But the last time I ate there I was with 2 friends, we ate there and while we were talking (and not too loud) she proceeded to turn the volume on the tv all of the way up. We each looked at each other in confusion, we could not hear the each other talk from across the table. Things like this have happened often when I eat here and my friends said they get the same response. I would imagine it would begin to effect business. read more

They also have bass, shrimp, oysters, croaker, snapper, and you name it. The service was quick. The food was good. The prices were reasonable. A real gem for the Monroe community.
