I have used this firm on two occasions to address electrical deficiencies at my 1910-built home in Pasadena. The first time was to replace a bad breaker in our panel which they did by replacing it, but also relocating it to a different position (the bus bar in the original location was part of the problem). On the second occasion I had an outside outlet I had trouble with. They pointed out that the original installation was not actually outdoor rated and not only fixed the outlet, but also installed and properly wired an outdoor rated junction box and cover. On both occasions all of the problems and all of the proposed repairs were discussed in advance of the work, with the final decision about what to do was left up to me (in all cases that decision was to do the repair correctly and remove any risk from improperly installed materials from the house's past). On both occasions the assigned electrician was Ara and his helper Henry. They were, at all times, very professional, respectful, and informative. I am very pleased with my experiences with SDS Electric and plan to use them again in the future. read more

I probably would have given them at least a 2 or 3 stars if it weren't for the lack of professionalism this company demonstrated. The owner clearly does not know the importance of accountability in a customer service business. I suspect the negative experiences in other reviews to be true after one dealing with this company. There's a reason why SDS is more available while other electricians are booked up. We had a pool pump that needed a prompt electrical fix at one of our properties. Our usual TRUSTed electrician had a packed schedule (along with our other TRUSTed back-up vendors), so we tried SDS. Long story short, our pool still ended up with a green pool few days after SDS' visit despite their assertion that the pump was fixed and turned on prior to their departure. We ended up paying more than double SDS' charge for follow-up services to readdress the issue (in other words, SDS' "work" was insignificant). What SDS lost from any remaining positives in their promptness/availability is their utter ignorance, respect, and accountability toward their customers. I see in one review they cancelled a visit to a customer because the customer didn't pick up 1 blank confirmation call without voicemail/text afterward. These guys called us 5 times one morning with multiple message (within 2-3 hour timespan) while I was in back-to-back appointments. When I finally had a moment from my schedule and reminded them that we wanted to confirm that proper job was done before paying (something already mentioned few days prior), the utter impatience and lack of accountability for their lackadaisical work was baffling. Not a good way to build TRUST (remember this word regarding our previous vendors?) with their customers at all by handling matters this way. Take it from someone who is in real estate and deal with numerous vendors daily. I am a returning customer to contractors that I can work with DESPITE mishaps, because we all know difficulties ALWAYS arise in real estate (just imagine what I deal with during turnovers). This company is dishonest, impatient, disrespectful, and absolutely not worth the money--and thus most importantly, not worth my future time. read more

They charged me $195 for a job that Edison came out and replaced for free, stating they used incorrect parts. So not only did they charge me $195 for something that could be done free, they also used the incorrect parts for the job. The technician was also very adamant that I not call Edison and "waste their time" as they're very busy. Clearly he knew they'd fix it for free and didn't want me to find out, because he had lied and said they wouldn't. Absolutely not a trustworthy business and I learned my lesson on "Sponsored" (paid) businesses on yelp. Contacted them and owner said he would give me a refund if what I said was true, but then never responded again. read more

I found SDS Electric on yelp to install recessed lightings for my home which is really old. They have the best ratings and the quickest response out of the other Electricians out there. When we schedule, they were available the same week and gave us a fair quote to recessed lighting. They were really prompt and they came around the time they said they would. They informed me of the current state of my house and they were able to install 26 recessed lighting throughout my house within 2 days without any issues. Their techs (Art, Caz, and others) were professional and knowledgable. I spoke with John (I believe him to be the owner) on the phone on multiple occasions and they were able to accommodate my requests. Price was astronomical and claims it was an "emergency" cause it was a Saturday. I requested multiple quotes in middle of the night via yelp on Friday night. They responded at 8:30 am and said a crew could inspect and provide free quote in 30-45 min. After some basic troubleshooting, they quoted $295 to perform trouble-shooting to find a loose neutral. They couldn't find it and had to install a neutral wire. Called on a Saturday evening during Labor Day weekend so I was not expecting the prompt response I got. I needed a Nema 14-50 plug installed in my detached garage which had a sub-panel. My main panel is approx. 30 feet away from the garage. So this was going to be a bit costly lol. SDS is great, highly professional, and very skilled. I reached out and communicated all via Yelp/email and it was a breeze. The electrician called to update me and when he arrived. I had a bad outdoor outlet that needed to be fixed and they were able to fix it no problem, and because it was outside outlet the electrician replaced the protective box cover and even resealed it. It was a relatively small job but he went above and beyond nonetheless. Additionally, because we're in COVID-19, he was also very mindful of wearing a mask and social distancing. My warehouse had an exposed wire from my outlet. It sparked when someone hit the wires. So I called SDS and they came within the 2 hour time frame they gave me. I asked them for a courtesy call ahead of time. And got that as well. They gave me a much better estimate than another company. And worked on it right away. Do not trust these people! Do not give them your money for a deposit!! The owner pocketed a $200 deposit at the start of December 2016, and never returned my calls to schedule a day to come in, after I tried 8 times. Nobody ever showed up to do any work still! I've called in several times this year and asked for a refund or at least for someone to do anything at the studio for the money they so quickly took but nobody called me back after a secretary said the owner would call me. Ironically their system keeps sending me an $600 invoice. Do not be scammed, go do a trustworthy company.
