My husband and I dive while on vacation once a year. We always research the dive shops prior to leaving on our trip. We went and spoke to Danilo at Scuba Playa's front desk and he was way more than helpful. He gave us all the information we requested and explained all of our options. Since I only dive once a year, I usually like to do a discovery dive first. We were able to pick and choose days and dives with an option for a discount after so many dives. We did the discovery dive with Lauren. The shop had a clean bathroom, showers and cubbies with small lockers for cellphones and money. Although we have to walk to the boat in the water, the staff ensured that were stable and assisted us to the boat. Our tanks were already onboard. The first dive was about 5 minutes away and we saw a ton of sealife. Carlo, the photographer took tons of pictures of us and some of the sights we were enjoying. Lauren made sure to point out smaller creatures so we didn't miss them. We surfaced and waited for our second dive. I get cold very easily, so Lauren took extra care to make sure I was warmed enough for the second dive. The second dive was just as enjoyable. Once back at the dive shop, we cleaned up and made plans for our second day of diving with Marco to Chikin Ha Cenote. Lauren recommended I use 2 wetsuits and a hood when diving the cenote due to me getting so cold. She even lent me a hood. On the day of the dive, Marco got all of our gear into the truck and drove us down to Tulum for the dive. We stopped along the way to get sandwiches to eat between dives. Once there, Marco walked us to the cenote entrance and briefed us. We walked back up, used the bathroom onsite and got all of gear on. We then headed back to the entrance. We entered the water via cement steps which made it much easier. The water was 74 degree Fahrenheit so I was glad I had on so many layers. Marco reviewed all the safety instructions and gave us flashlights. We progressed through the cenote caverns slowly following Marco. Mid-way, he checked our air and we headed back. We did 2 dives, each being about 40 minutes. They went really fast because there was so many cavernous features to look at. I did not get cold on either dive thanks to Lauren's earlier suggestions. Both dives were great and Marco gave me just the right weight. After the dives, we cleaned up and headed back to the dive shop. Both Lauren and Marco were very professional and obviously made our safety the first priority. All the staff at the dive shop were super friendly and helpful. I also ordered pictures from Carlo (Red Filter Diving) for $40. His pictures were crystal clear and very good. He also sent me a link for downloadable pics of his "best of" albums from Cozumel and Playa. All in all Scuba Playa is a top notch operation with very personalized attention. read more
