I'm not gonna lie as a first timer I panicked going down the rope the first time but Diego kept me calm and reminded me of the training. Top notch dive shop. Look no further and head here for diving in Playa. Girardo and Irene are very professional, very friendly and will give you a laugh. All of the staff were great. I've been to a handful of dive shops now and will say this one fantastic. The equipment is new and clean, the ocean is blocks away (you will be driven to the boat), reasonable prices and once again staff is great. Also to note...everything will be done for you. Some places have you finding and hooking up equipment, cleaning afterwards and lugging things around. Not here. They handle everything and make you feel as if you on on vacation...which most likely you are. I personally have my advanced diving license but my girlfriend has never dove. Headed here with the intention of getting her intro course and going on a couple easy dives together. Unfortunately she was advised not to dive because of her asthma. That was a bit heartbreaking but the owner took the sting out of it a bit with the surprise that I could dive with sharks and my lady could chill on the boat and snorkel. Diving with a handful of big and pregnant bull sharks was one hell of an experience that many divers would be jealous of. That was a dive for the books and will never be forgotten. Also went for a second dive and was brought to a great locale with much to see...coral, schools of fish, eels, stingrays etc. etc. Irene headed the dives and gave us all a great experience. I am reluctantly writing this review because it officially signals the end of amazing month with scuba 10 (for this trip at least). You will not find a more professional, experienced, personal, and just overall fun dive shop in playa. I had zero dives under my belt before coming down a month ago and now I am advanced certified and have 30 dives to my name. If you're looking for a reputable dive center to get your open water certification for the first time...this is it. If you're looking to get an advanced or rescue diver certification...this is it. If you want to experience the best of Cozumel...this is it. If you want to dive cenotes and feel like you're part of their Mexican family...this is it. Whatever your dive goals may be, scuba 10 has the most amazing staff ready to make your experience amazing. I'll detail my experience below so you have an idea of what to expect. Open water cert: 3 days total. 1 day pool and 2 days ocean diving. I was trained by Miguel and Alejandra. Both of them took amazing care of me, made sure I was comfortable, and provided an amazing base of training and skills that prepared me for ALL of my future dives. 10/10 for their open diving course. Advanced certification: My girlfriend flew down to get advanced certified with me (she already has an open water) but hadn't been diving in 5 years. We ran a bit of an extended program here to ease her back into diving and also spent an extra day in Cozumel morning training. By the end of our advanced training, we had 8 dives all custom designed to teach us specific skills and train against multiple scenarios. The week I spent training advanced with scuba 10 was easily one of the most fun weeks of my life. Cenotes: SCUBA 10 OFFERS AMAZING CENOTE TRIPS. I dove 7 cenotes over the course of the month with scuba 10. I couldn't get enough. They offering round trip transportation, a dedicated expert dive master, and many trips even include lunch at or around the cenote spots. Nervous about cavern or cenote diving? Don't even worry, Carlos and Jonny (your cenote dive masters) flood you with a sense of confidence and safety to create a diving experience you will never forget. DO THESE. Ocean / reef diving: I mean come on. You go to their shop, they drive you to their boat, captain Arturo welcomes you onboard, your dive master briefs you on your upcoming dive, and before you know it you are face to face with sea turtles, beautiful coral, lobsters, barracudas, rays, and 1000s of other examples of marine life. There's no one else I would do an ocean dive with. Hands down. OWNER AND EMPLOYEES: Gerardo (owner): with over 15000 dives Gerardo is the owner and operator of scuba 10. The man is absolutely amazing and will work with you to create the perfect dive experience for your skill set and interests. His amazing energy radiates through the shop and makes you feel welcomed instantly. I laughed within the first 30 seconds of meeting him. Irene: (operations, dive master, patrona) my girlfriend and I got advanced certified by Irene and did probably 10 other dives with her. She is absolutely the best dive instructor in Quintana Roo and possibly all of mexico. She works closely with Gerardo to custom design your experience and meet all of your needs. I would trust this woman with my life. Alejandra: She is the big sister you wish you had. Badass, hilarious, smart, and one hell of a dive master. 10/10 dive experiences every time with ale. Carlos: The king of cenotes. I spent many hours diving with and getting to know Carlos. He's one of the best divers I have ever seen and will make you feel comfortable and prepared for every single cenote dive you do. He also was my guide for a local playa reef dive and we had an absolute blast tracking marine life for some underwater pictures. Jonny: I spent two afternoons diving with and getting to know Jonny. The guy is an absolute expert and a great teacher. We did some Cozumel reefs and one of the more technical cenotes in the area. Can't say enough good things about this guy. read more

Carlos my divemaster was very competent, as well as Sandy and David in the office. The van used to transport divers to the beach was a dangerous rusted vehicle. The divers had to carry the tanks and gear down the beach and into the surf to the dive boat. Only one of the boat engines was operable but the boat captain was very skillful. read more

I've never worked with any diving school but my boyfriend has and he said the dive he went on in Bali was a little sketchy and he wasn't that confident about diving even though he's a great swimmer. Me on the other hand never dived nor do I swim. I can float kind of but I don't even like getting wet unless it's a jacuzzi. Irene taught me how to swim and gave me great confidence even though I thought I wouldn't make it. I went from a novice non swimmer to getting my open water certification in 3 days. Pretty crazy. I started with Discovery Scuba where I held on to Irene and focused on just breathing underwater and getting comfortable. If you need extra attention, panic with water then Irene is who you want to work with. I was able to deduct my Discovery Scuba tour from the scuba license total and continue on with pool exams and another 2 ocean dives. I highly recommend Scuba10 and would not have made it without Irene and her team including Alex! read more

After getting our open water certification in Houston, we did our first REAL ocean dives with Scuba10, and it was awesome! Gerardo was prompt and professional in replying to my emails prior to our trip. He even helped calm my nerves about the questionable weather forecast. On the morning of our 5 year wedding anniversary and my 26th birthday we did 2 dives (Barracudas and Sabalos), and it took about 4-5 hours total. The visibility was perfect (35 feet) and we had an absolute blast! The price was $78 per person for a 2-tank dive, which was a steal for the service and experience we received. Our dive master was Carlos, and he was so patient and watchful with us newbies. He was also a cutie ;-). He listened to our concerns about equalization and made sure we felt 100% comfortable before proceeding with our dives. I did have trouble equalizing on my second dive, but Carlos stayed with me the whole time while I slowly descended, even though we drifted away from the rest of the divers. Niko was also on our dive trip, but mostly stuck with a more advanced group. Both Niko and Carlos were calm and in control at all times, while still having fun and made me feel very at ease. The dive masters, captain and first mate on our boat were incredibly helpful in hauling and setting up our gear. Of course, we learned how to set up all of our own stuff in class, but I was nervous and feeling seasick on the boat, so I was very appreciative of their assistance. The scuba gear and boat was all well cared for and modern, and they were prepared with spares, just in case. This was such a special day for me, and I'm so happy Scuba10 was a part of it! I would highly recommend Scuba 10. We recently went to Playa Del Carmen and wanted to do some scuba diving. After checking with a couple of local PADI dive shops we ended up choosing Scuba10. They were very friendly and accommodating. Our two daughters wanted to dive. One is certified and the other is not. Scuba10 did a great job, especially with my daughter that is not certified. The girls did four dives over two days and had a great time. Diego and Edgar did a great job making sure the dive was safe and memorable. Very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. The girls saw some amazing fish and loved all of their dives. If we go back to Playa Del Carmen to dive, we will be visiting Scuba10 again! read more

WOW!!!! These guys are absolutely amazing! I have a story to prove it! I was traveling alone, as a single girl, and wanted to do a dive! I ended up doing the cenote dive to "El Pit" and "Dos Ojos." Not only was the drive comfortable, dive master extremely friendly, and dive site absolutely breath taking...but it was what happened after that makes me want to let EVERYONE know that Scuba 10 is the right choice! I (stupidly) left my wallet at the dive site, out in the open, at Dos Ojos. Everything I had for my trip was in that wallet: id, atm card, credit cards, insurance card, and cash. I didn't realize this until we had driven an hour back to Playa Del Carmen. BOTH owners there and the dive master quickly jumped into action to figure out the best solution. They helped calm me down (after all I was a girl traveling alone...very scary), and the dive master offered to drive me all the way back to the site to see if it was there. By the grace of God a miracle was performed! It was there....with EVERYTHING INSIDE!!!!! Not only that, but the dive master set up a trip back for me with owner Gerardo ("Jerry"). No one ever expected extra money from me for helping me out, but of course I gave them some as a thank you for their kindness and charity. Even more so, Gerardo said he was figuring out backup plans with his partner to figure out how to lend me money or find me a place to stay in the worst case that I couldn't get any money (due to losing my wallet). I was so beyond grateful and relieved for their kindness. Truly, they proved that human beings are good people! Diving with Scuba 10 is absolutely the right choice! They have great prices and they truly care about their customers. Their dive masters have extensive experience and make the entire trip a memorable and comfortable one! Went over things again and again until I got the skills. Then both ocean dive lessons were led by Johnny. Again, so, so, so kind and patient. We loved this dive shop! We walked around and looked at 5 or so shops including the top top rated ones. But they were the best price (like $50 cheaper than the other shops), philosophy, safety and humor! We ended up having 1 instructor for the two of us!! Since it had been awhile since we dove having that much attention was great. Gerardo took great care of us below and above water. Make sure not to leave during his safety briefing ;P Below water the 1st dive with bull sharks we stayed close, he had easy hand signals and got great pictures of us and the sharks! For the reef dive he allowed us to wander safely nearby so we could brush up on our skills. He was nearby and checked on us frequently ensuring we were ok. I felt very safe with these guys. MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE FAMILY. OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE...... Gerardo and his business partner (sorry I forgot her name) were outstanding. We read their reviews and were referred by our condo rental company. We went in person to book our dives for the following day. Professional: They picked us up from our hotel in the morning (really nice of them). Gerardo was an excellent dive master and made sure we equalized and physically held us when we started to surface too fast. Great communication. Ear issue/doctor: We we scheduled to do a night dive, but my husbands eat started to hurt from the morning dive. We went to advise Gerardo about the issue and he offered to take us to the doctor (who does that?). The doctor said no more diving and to come back for a follow up. Gerardo stayed with us the entire doctor visit and gave us a ride back to our condo. Gerardo kept all our gear at the shop all week and took us back to the doctor 4 days later. Unfortunately we were still unable to dive due to my husbands ear infection. Excellent customer service: Although we only dove one day with Gerardo, he treated us as family. He could have taken our money and let us dive, but was more concerned for my husbands health. Highly recommend this company and wouldn't go anywhere else in Playa Del Carmen. Above and beyond customer service. Gerardo. I know you read these, so don't forget to respond to your 1 negative review. (Letting that guy sleep in your back room when he had nowhere to go and then leaving without his paperwork and finally contacting you a year later to get it. Then his mother slams you when she had nothing to do with your company or interaction). Ridiculous. You went out of your way for that kid and shouldn't have that negative remark. I called at 11 and Irene told me the afternoon dive went at noon but I could make it if I came right away. So I did! And it was awesome. Javi (not sure I spell it right) was our dive master and he couldn't have been better. Very professional and safe. We did a shark dive and the site was packed with sharks. Truly a surreal experience. The second dive was shallower and also very good. The group was a family from Monterrey who dived with scuba 10 many times so that made me feel even more comfortable. So if you are wondering why it's a 3 not a five, the reason is that when I got back I was told that the shark dive wasn't planned. ( true) but that it was 15 dollars more than the 85 I already paid. So I'm ok with that though I can't see why. Same tanks, same length, same depth, and I don't think the Sharks get paid. Then it is brought to my attention that it's actually 40 dollars more. So that kind of puts me off a bit. I don't actually know if it is or it isn't but I don't think the family paid more so I thought a bit unfair plus the owner disappears throughout the "after bargaining". It felt like "diving with friends" until they treated me like a bit of a mark. Maybe it's true, maybe not. But once you agree on a price it should be honoured. Good dive shop. Compassionate. Fair prices. Competent. Scuba 10 is a 10/10! I did four dives with them and enjoyed each dive! I met with Irine (the owner) and she talked with me for more than an hour about all the dives and options. She also made some perfect restaurant recommendations and told me about local beaches. She's amazing! Scuba 10 always keeps small groups and a ratio of 4:1 dive master, and sometimes less. All of my dives had a 1:1 ratio. The first two dives were Playa dives. We saw sea turtles, a barracuda, sting rays, and lots of other fish! I got extremely sea sick between dives and the crew was beyond understanding! They helped me get suited up and into the water - a very long process since I felt so sick! And they were all so understanding! Especially my dive master, Gabriel! He was very knowledgable and very sweet! Highly recommend. My next and MOST FAVORITE AWESOME DIVES were with Chino in the Cenotes. I did The Pit (El Pit) and Dos Ojos. The Pit was so magical and mesmerizing! I wouldn't trade the experience for anything! Dos Ojos is a much more shallow and longer dive. Google both of these dives for pictures. Expensive (because of park fees), BUT WORTH IT! Chino has 30+ years of diving experience and it showed. He was a wonderful dive master and showed me some really cool places in the dives. read more

The 2nd activity I knocked off my bucket list in Mexico was Scuba Diving. When I say this was one of the most extroadinary things I have ever done in my life, I kid you not. I cant even explain to you how beautiful and other worldly it is in the ocean. I went 12 meters deep on 2 different dives & swam very close to sting rays , eels, so many different types of fish, coral reef, crabs, parot fish, Dori lol & so much more. My amazing instructor Irene from @scuba10pdc truly made me feel safe and showed me such an amazing time undersea . I'm not gonna lie, I had a few panic moments in the beginning, but I quickly faced my fear and jumped all in.She taught me the 4 different ways to pop my ears & how to breathe underwater and to most importantly relax and not panic and was their for me every step of the way. I am so happy I experienced this and will definitely be getting certified soon. read more

Went here 3 years ago, my wife and I were the first 2 students to get certified with Gerardo and Irene with an SSI cert (as opposed to PADI or NAUI). We had the most amazing time. I still think about Scuba10 often and I hope to get back there some day. We have been diving in and around Southern California since then, but so far nothing compares to our first dives in Playa with this amazing shop. 2 of the best people on earth. I bet there are plenty of dive shops in PdC that'll get the job done and provide a good experience, but Scuba10 goes beyond the expectations of a business and really takes care of you like family. Irene & Gerardo were super nice and accommodating of my schedule and making the certification course happen for me. I did my theory and pool training with Irene & 4 dives with Xavier, Michelle & Gerardo. Everyone was super knowledgable and even when the instruction was in groups, they made sure that each individual got the attention they needed to learn the relevant skills. Most importantly, they made sure that everyone had a great time. Bottom line: I can't imagine my first diving experience being any better than what scuba10 provided. If my family was running a dive shop, I expect them to treat me like the folks at scuba10 did. They somehow managed to make even the laborious studying and taking the PADI test enjoyable. Even if you are not into diving and/or don't plan to go on an excursion with scuba10, go say hola if like meeting awesome people. IMPORTANT NOTE: Irene can be a li'll cranky without her coffee.
