About 5-6 days into my stay, I decided to go home! I knew I was going to be okay and so the next day, I notified the head administrator I'd be leaving the following day. The same day I was asked to sign discharge papers, and later that evening, during routines, they gave me a 'new' medication that I swallowed without thinking. I went back to my room and my arms and legs started tingling. I went to find a night nurse, snd finally found her in the garage. She was weirdly unresponsive and treated me like I was no longer their patient or responsibility. By then my limbs had turned to rubber. I should have opted to go to the ER rather than ride it out. With Covid starting to hit CA, it was a good thing I didn't go to the hospital. I'd clearly been given someone else's meds that night but they never gave me a straight answer. I was awake all that night and had to cancel my 7am flight. When I finally made it to the airport later the next day, I had to be wheeled out to the gate. When I left Aton they literally sent me home with a plastic shopping bag full of meds they'd prescribed that I'd literally never seen before! I had no idea what all the meds were even for. I still have them! When I originally signed my discharge docs I gave Aton an excellent review. I've regretted giving that positive review for years. I followed up with Aton a month or so after I got home but the administrator or legal expert who called was totally unapologetic and denied ANY & ALL culpability relating to my experience. I would not recommend Aton.

Recently, after a 5 day stay at Scripps Hospital, Encinitas, I was fortunate enough to be placed at Carlsbad By The Sea for continued care. Professional and consistent care... Efficiency... Cleanliness... Rooms with wonderful views... along with 5 star restaurant quality food... It's all true, but when all is said and done, it is the caring staff that you remember. Not a day went by that I didn't get a quick personal visit from Greg, the Director of Admissions to check that all was going well. Amazing! Sylvia Delarosa, the Director of Nursing met with my family to discuss my care plan and she followed up often. Sudha, the nutritionist visited me and took additional time to not only advise me as to healthy food choices, but worked with me on a program for the future. This was above and beyond all expectations. Dr. Mann was always aware of my progress and personally saw me every week. Many thanks to my Occupational Therapist Adaina with a heart of gold who worked with me daily to practice skills that I would need once I got home. I have such admiration for David in Physical Therapy who constantly encouraged me to work harder to become stronger each day. The walk to the beach was the highlight and a tremendous boost to my confidence, which helped prove to me that I could handle future challenges at home. I will never forget Janelle who always went above and beyond to not only help me with my daily needs, but who would follow up the next day to make sure that everything promised had been done. I have been a residential client in sober living since February 18th at their Passiflora Ave…read more location. When I inquired from Northbound Treatment in Garden Grove of the length of stay I was told it is a minimum of three months. Now in the final phase of mental health three times a week some 211 days ago it has been nothing short of incredible! The staff in ALL are top notch because they genuinely care about your long term recovery. Don't get me wrong...YOU have to put in the work without a shadow of a doubt! But, aside from group sessions and occasional "homework" assignments it's communal living quarters where everyone collectively is there for the same reason: life long sobriety.
