Cool and chill staff that were welcoming. I was amazed how big their facility was once I went inside. I bought some fun holiday decor for $7 and donated 10+ bags of miscellaneous items. I hope the items go to good uses and have new lives! read more

Best hidden secret in SF, I love SCRAP so very much. Budget crafters paradise, good luck parking though!

SCRAP's mission is amazing and there needs to be more stores like this everywhere. Don't expect a Michaels or even a Goodwill, this is more like your grandma's attic. It does have every type of supply for every type of craft you can imagine. And some other housewares you'd typically find at a thrift store. Plan to spend a while digging for the perfect item, it's a little messy. Their "free stuff" pile as you will see is free for a reason. The location is hard to get to if you don't have a car, I came here by bus and had to walk through a couple not so nice blocks to get there. read more

In a country where most are so wasteful and believe in the throwaway culture, a place like Scrap is an eye opener. I took my 8-year-old there and it turned into an education trip. Each aisle was full of surprises ! We found tons of perfect paper, pencils, art supplies, colors, felt fabric for stitching and old craft books. What a great find! read more

As a maker artist type person, this is my go-to for materials. I am often inspired by what I find here. They also are great for practical stuff as well - I have found paper and folders for an event at my kid's elementary school and I often find supplies for Halloween costumes here, among other things. I love that there are so many ways to repurpose so many different materials and that this place gives people the opportunity to do so. Also the price is right! read more

This place is awesome! SCRAP contains well-organized treasures for artists and crafters beyond your wildest imaginings. Think Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory level fun. As Waze directed me to the location, I will admit I raised an eyebrow at my surroundings. I continued on, and as I turned the corner a sign hand-lettered in paint announced donation hours were over. I was just happy they were open! I had little knowledge of what SCRAP might contain, but let me tell you dear reader, some of my dreams came true here. And the prices...SO GOOD! SCRAP's contents made the crafter in my heart swoon. I noticed that SCRAP has a large class area, which delighted me because it's been far to long since I had that kind of fun. I encourage you to treat yourself to a visit. I'm heading back to SCRAP at my earliest opportunity, it's that good. read more

Ephemeral labyrinth, hidden away in an industrial corner of the Bay. Have a project taking shape in your mind? Or need inspiration? Come here and find. Buckets of buttons, embroidery thread, acres of fabric, imagination fed. Sleeves of sheets of paper and prints a rainbow of yarn, maroons to mints. Bin of bottle caps and wooden balls large frames and canvases line the walls. Paints of every kind, and dyes kitting needles in every size. I bought an armful of lucky finds and my total was only $13.99. The staff was so warm, I just love Scrap! It's earned a spot on my favorites map. read more

Went here on my birthday and it was a lot of fun. There is so much to look at and I could spend hours in the photography supplies/area. The prices are really affordable too. read more

Terrell is an angel, a pleasure to deal with! He is always upbeat, and a real problem solver. Thanks, Terrell!

If Willy Wonka married your weird packrat hoarder aunt and they moved to a warehouse on a poorly paved alley, they'd be SCRAP. The word "random" doesn't quite do the place justice. My wife, a school teacher, loves it to go find odds and ends for art projects. I find the place weird and claustrophobic but if it wasn't a huge dusty warehouse filled beyond the rafters with crap, it wouldn't be sCRAP. Minus one star for a pricing system that seems to depend on the mood of whichever employee rings you up. Think "Soup Nazi Flea Market." I've witnessed some of them getting unhinged but never to me or my wife. Again, 4 stars because somehow, the world needs SCRAP. read more

This is really a fun place to come and visit. There's so much stuff you can't even explain it. You just have to come and see it for yourself. I just sort of wanted around a bit checking out everything. Just all kinds of crazy wacky stuff at really cheap prices. Plus all the free stuff as well. They have a huge Craft section with all kinds of beads and craft materials you name it they got it. I was especially interested in The Oddities section. They had a nice beard that I considered buying but it was the wrong color. I need one with some gray in it. read more

Cute little thrift store for your crafting needs, but super messy and disorganized. Wanted to get more supplies for embroidering but hoops were missing parts and there were random wrappers everywhere. Just be ready to really look through bins to find what you're looking for. read more

I love SCRAP! This place is amazing and legit has everything! Its not only great for the environment but has great prices.

This place is awesome! One person's junk is another person's treasure. I was able to find a bunch of stationary that I needed without breaking the bank. I also felt good about upcycling. Got a whole stack of items for $3. read more

Awesome place! Ample parking nearby. Really friendly customer service. Loooootssss of rad things to look through!

They have an excellent selection of paper and boards for craft projects. I love all the hidden gems I find every time I go. I use the materials for professional development trainings for work. The customer service is always grade A! I can't say enough positive things about this place. Thank you for doing all you do! read more

I needed to get rid of my hoarding tendencies so what better way to donate school supplies than to SCRAP? The area is a little sketchy so beware leaving your belongings in the car, but aside from that if you want to drop off Tuesday - Saturday, just load up your box or bag of items and drop it off. The staff will handle the rest. They also provide a donation slip. read more

Scrap is amazing. If you're into crafts then you will be into scrap!!! The place is huuge and has SO MANY good deals and the coolest finds!! My first visit there and i left with a large paper bag of fabric, some zippers, sewing patterns, Velcro, cards.. and they even have FREE bins at the front of the store. I cannot wait to go back. The employees are all very helpful and one of the gentleman working there even offered water for our toddler while we were browsing. Top notch customer service and coolest business. read more

This has nothing to do with the actual shop itself but rather a rude employee (old white haired woman with a bad attitude) -- you can read about her in all the other negative yelp review. Why does she still work there? I called ahead of time and asked if I could bring my small dog on a leash. The woman on the phone said yes, no problem. I'm there finishing up my shopping and this old woman comes up to me and is entirely rude immediately. She starts off with, "I know you are going to say this is a service dog, but no dogs belong here." I simply told her that I called earlier that morning and was told it was okay. She continued to go off on a rant and then proceeded to go talk to my friends and give them an earful. A different woman at the cash register apologized. She said the older woman hates dogs. Still no excuse to treat your customers that way. Please align on your store policy and then communicate them properly to your customers. read more

I donated a car full of fabric, buttons, sewing things on a Saturday at 11am. It was a smooth easy process and they have rolling carts for you to take out to your car. To make the process easier for you, make sure you check the website for things they accept. Then I went inside and found some a box of Kung fu panda pens. I only bought 1, but wish I got them all! I don't think I'll ever go to Micheal's again... read more

Scrap - Random but awesome. It's a pen/light. And it punches.... - Art Supplies Near Me - San Francisco, California

I dropped off 7 boxes of patterns from a Joann's that was closing and when I brought it up there was a guy who was so excited that they got all the patterns and it warmed my heart! However when I was finished dropping them off there was a guy who was kind of rude and said "next time you could at least tape these up" I thought in my head SORRY for doing FREE patterns that COST probably 4-500 $$$ and your getting them for free and you can't just be thankful for even getting them in good condition. I rolled my eyes and said "yeah well I paid 20 for this and you get it for free." Other then that it was a cool place kinda like your cool gramps workshop. Kinda hard to find but still neat! Definitely came home with a bit of free loot cause I donated so many patterns read more

If I was in art school I could see myself coming here every month for raw material and inspiration. I recently completed a sewing boot camp at Workshop SF, our instructor recommended checking out this place for beginner sewing supplies and fabric. I have to say, Scrap didn't disappoint. Their fabric is sold by grocery bags(fill your own for $10), which is insane. The choices are very limited but we got tons of practice fabric and some cool printed ones. We also picked up a carousel projector in leather case for $17, a big spool of velcro for$4, 10 for $1 zippers, some elastic and tons of pins for $2. This is charity work. We were also looking for bobbins, threads, rulers, scissors, cutting boards, and sewing organizers, which they didn't have. Whether it is sewing, knitting, jewelry making, printing, framing, or general junk yard diving you are into, I would recommend you to make a stop here first, pick up a few essentials (and a bunch of other stuff you don't need :]) for next to nothing, and then head to the specialty store of your choice after to look for specific materials and supplies. Tips: You cannot bring dogs. read more

Scrap - All of this stuff for $25. Straight up charity work. - Art Supplies Near Me - San Francisco, California

I really enjoy this fun place! There's thousands of things to look through. It's very easy to lose track of time and spend HOURS in there there's always at least one or two items I end up carrying with me the whole time. I'd recommend this place to anyone and is great for DIY projects. read more

A great place to recycle art materials in good condition as well as anything that might be used as an art supply or by artists. I have donated and bought about in equal parts as I am an artist. This place is magical for anyone to walk through and make you think about how objects can be used, recycled and used in a 1000 ways. read more

SCRAP is the thrift craft store of my dreams. They have a fabulous selection of garment fabric and not just remnant size. I bought duck canvas with enough yardage to make two pairs of pants, lycra that will probably make more swimsuits than I could ever wear, printed rayon, a piece of felt, and a handful of buttons for only $8! There's bins of zippers, elastic, rolls of wrapping paper, old postcards, scrap leather, donated jars, and and so much more. Buttons can be found in organized jars if you're looking for a set and there's also a bin of random, more decorative buttons. A 1/4 cup scoop of buttons is only $1! P.S. They do take card! read more

I love this place. They have everything and they sell it to you so cheap. And when you have a little fabric or yarn or paint left - we all have a closet full of this - they'll take it and try to sell it!! I truly love this place and I love supporting them at their Randall Museum party things. read more

love this store but WTF with the older white-haired lady with the German accent? Once again she is SUPER RUDE? Not ncessary! You don't get to treat customers that way! She screamed at me for accidentally putting a box back in the wrong place! Not one to let things slide, I replied in an equally loud and rude tone that "you don't talk to customers that way!!". Only then did she back off and say that other people don't put things back....which is not my problem and no excuse for being rude AF. I hope someone from Scrap management talks to this woman, her sour attitude is just bad for business. If she can't deal with the public then put her in the back room!!!! read more

I love this place, and always walk away feeling GIDDY! =D SCRAPS like a large organized treasure filled garage sale for art lovers!!! I love creative artists who can turn junk into something inspiring and beautiful! However..... the OWNER is always so cold and grumpy when you try to talk to her. Almost as if she detests interacting with people! When you go there on weekends, expect to be ordered to "SIGN IN!" to her book before entering the place. Besides the super unfriendly lady... I LOVE this PLACE, and love the REUSE concept! Just not a fan of the GRUMPY LADY! =/ I keep telling myself not to talk to her each time I visit, but I can't help it since the concept of creative reuse brings me so much JOY! However, without fail each time I talk to her with a smile she responds in a very matter of fact, and get out of my face response. Oh well... Just try to limit the talking w her! read more

Ok, the selection of incredibly-cheap-to-free jumble of stuff is great. BUT. I went in to drop off a donation and then pick up a few odds and ends. The man at the counter tried to overcharge me (one item had a marked price and he asked for 4x that). After I showed him that, he told me the new total - and then shortchanged me. When I pointed that out, he claimed it was sales tax, even though he'd already told me the total. I mean, come on - overcharge me or shortchange me, but not both, eh? read more

Really cool place for your crafts you don't wanna spend a lot on. They have lots lots lots of paper and yarn. They have buttons pins random things for your mind to jus think of the possibilities. They sell manequinn pieces to stick on your canvas somewhere. They have random supplies too. They had moleskine pens and refills there. I even got a big bottle of brush cleaner and India ink. They have lots of paint pastels markers too. Used but you can find stuff. Can't complain though when my total is usually less than $5 for random crap I get at michaels or blicks. read more

Love SCRAP. It's my go to place for my art needs as a mixed media artist and the prices are the best.

The coolest store ever for us creative types. They have everything!!! And it feels good to upcycle things.

I'd been wanting to drop in this place for awhile when they offered the Workshop for Yelp. This place is fantastic. It's an artists or collectors dream. They have almost anything you can imagine. Those paper squares or fabric you needed for a project for class? Got it. Old boxes, slides or picture frames? Got it. Old Mac apple and Kodak slide projector? Got it! In fact that was my big purchase of the week, a mostly complete slide projector which (once I purchased a lens for it) worked perfectly for 45 dollars. The ladies who worked there even threw in several carousels for free. The workshop itself was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed puttering around with the things I'd purchased from the store which beats out thrift stores and garage sale prices any day of the week. The only minor drawback is they price things by eye when you bring them to the counter, so you may not know how much you're in for until you get there. But hey, it's worth it! read more

I think this is a great place for creative people and I wish I was more creative! There are a lot of interesting things here very reasonably priced. I found the customer service to be friendly and overall had a great experience. Lot's of stuff and fun to rummage around on a Saturday! I can't wait to go back with my mom who is a creative genius! Highly recommend. Oh, it is a bit cluttered, but that's part of it's charm ;) read more

Omg I love this place. As a craft person who often gets really into a craft one month and then picks up something new the next, this place has it all. I can't believe I ever went to a craft store. This is a one stop shop and sustainable, and an amazing staff! read more

I thought I spotted a cool furry hat, so I grabbed it and realized it was a cat. If you are allergic to dust or cats, PUSH THROUGH IT, because this is where you will uncover your future gems. Yes, I have an agenda, I support community and sustainability, and while my soapbox goes no further than that, the reasons I am a fan of SCRAP are: -The price. They weigh your items and I have always been so surprised that I've made out with a HUGE bag of stuff for under $10. -The selection. I can only speak for myself, but every time I have entered their industrial threshold I have found everything I needed. From Birthday cards to books about Gourd Crafts, if you need a doll head, they have it! -You can work off traffic tickets here! I haven't, but I plan to when I decide traffic tickets are a priority... I can't completely give this place 5 stars because there may be a place better than this and I can imagine this location is challenging to get to if you don't have a car. They don't take credit cards, but they do accept cash and checks. I'm also allergic to dust and cats, but I can't wait to uncover my future treasures! read more

Scrap belongs on an industrial episode of hoarders. There are piles of miscellaneous art supplies everywhere! Disregard the prices posted, whoever checks you out will size up your goodies and give a price off the top of their heads. For 15 yards of fabric, silks samples, upholstery samples, knick knacks, etc I only had to pay $15. Because Scrap is a non-profit and provides such an amazing service to the community I always round up $5 so I ended up paying $20. If you end up utilizing this amazing community resource, please consider donating too! The employees/ volunteers work really hard to keep this place going! read more

Listen. This ain't Target. It's called Scrap for a reason. I think if you set your expectations right, this can be a great experience. How to have a successful SCRAP experience: 1/ Find the place. Know that the entrance is on Newcomb Ave, NOT Toland. There are signs. 2/ The freebie section is right when you walk in. It's small. You don't have to go further if you are really on a lean budget. There's a rotating collective of paper, fabrics, random CDs and other items that reflect what's inside. 3/ Be prepared to get your hands dusty. Staff shelves items as best they can but there's no dusting. You will get grimy hands sifting through things. Bring gloves if that doesn't sound good to you. 4/ Block out at least an hour if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. 5/ Pricing is subjective but remember, this is non profit and they are helping save the earth by repurposing perfectly reusable items. It does help to grab more though. I have paid the same amount for a small bag of buttons as I have for a large bag of buttons. Smile and let your mind be creative. There's hand sanitizer on the way out. read more

I love the idea of SCRAP. Love it. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten rid of a crafting supply because I ended up not doing the project. Admit it, y'all have done the same thing. Anyways, I like the idea of SCRAP. If I had a particular project or I was trying to decorate a new apartment, I think this would be a great place to go. Unfortunately, I was in the market for neither and they were extremely low on yarn (which is what I was there for), so I walked out with nothing. I'll definitely come back at some point, but only when I have a project in mind. read more
