Good Times!
Charlene P.

I normally love this place. Tonight not do much. Disco fries were missing the siracho type sauce. My whiskey sour totally sucked. Shrimp tacos took forever. Where is Mike?!?!?!

Philibuster

Their kitchen is open late, so working late no longer means missing out on a good meal. Scotty's online menu, with its creative appetizers, was so ambitious that I was so certain the food would be amazing, and they were absolutely able to follow through. The house-made Buffalo Chicken Pimento Cheese Dip tastes like such a lucky find for bar food. So many fresh ingredients go into these dishes that I honestly felt like I discovered a treasure by walking in the first time. I've been counting on the Disco Fries--with yet again another flavorful house-made sauce--to be there after wrapping up many work projects. I thought I was content with their well-executed and reliable menu staples, but in another stroke of luck, I was able to get in on trying their "limited time" special, Chef Phillip's Philibuster. I have no idea how creative and dedicated these people must be for such an astounding dish to even exist! It wasn't enough for Chef Phillip to have a burger tucked between TWO grilled cheese sandwiches (Gouda & Mozzarella!)--which probably would have amazed me right there--but to also have a house-made tomato jam (I keep forgetting to ask if they'll make more of the jam to just sell it), more cheese on the burger (Swiss), and another house-made sauce, is shocking in such a fun and delightful way. Adding that fresh arugula so you can pretend you aren't so far off your diet that you're eating THREE sandwiches at once, just really made it an unexpected delight.

Ciera and Stacy are amazing!!! Scotty the owner and quinten the GM came out to offer my husband and I samples of new menu items they want to put out and bought a round of shots for us. Not to mention I asked ciera to make me something fruity with vodka and she came back with this amazing creation she called a shark attack! What a cool name and the drink was delicious. Very cool and laid back spot with a good mix of music. They also do tournaments for darts and pool which I found neat to watch. Overall a very pleasant experience and everyone for sure made my husband and I regulars over there. Can't wait to go back!! The whole establishment was amazing and very welcoming.

Eat, drink and be merry.

Five stars hands down!!! Walk in and feel like family. The staff is awesome. There are darts, pool tables, and great music. Great selection of craft beer, alcohol and the bloody Mary is the bee's knees. The food is exceptional. The owner did a phenomenal job with the menu. The burger would have to be my all time favorite but the whole menu is absolutely amaze-balls. Awesome locals bar with delicious treats.

Disco Fries - Incredible!

Disco Fries! Incredible. A bowl of thick cut fries with fresh garlic and parmesan, awesome sauce, a runny fried egg and a splash of hot sauce. Amazing texture and flavors. Grown Up Grilled Cheese! Amazing! Apple slices, bacon, gruyere, brie, and American cheese with Apricot preserves. Flavor explosion! Lots of TVs for football, friendly staff. Only drawback (4 stars instead of 5) is they allow smoking inside... no one was smoking when I was there so it was ok but the smell still lingered. Why ruin such good food with cigarette smoke killing the flavors?

Horrible food.over cooked and no flavorà

This food is horrible! I had the sample platter, garbage! I tried this place because of the great reviews. The drinks was cool but the food was super nasty! Couldn't even eat it!

**Chicken tenders and dirty fries ** A Scotty's dish you MUST try

McElroy's Pub - Classic dive bar

Free street parking, but it was a bit hard to find a spot on a Saturday night. Restrooms were also pretty clean. Most of the seats at the bar were taken so my partner had to squeeze in to order a drink, but it wasn't too difficult to get service. Service was also nice and quick each time he ordered a drink. I thought the prices were pretty good for how expensive drinks can be these days. They also have a happy hour that ends at 8pm every day and daily specials, but I forgot what they were. Maker's Mark Old Fashioned $10 Maker's Mark and Coke $8 Shiner Bock $5.25 Coors Light, Bud Light $4.50 My partner got 3 old fashioned's and thought the first one was too light, so he asked for less ice on the next one. That seemed to fix the flavor balance. There were 2 dart boards and a pool table, but I think you have to pay to play pool because there was a daily special that said free pool on Monday's. I think the darts are free though. There were a decent amount of TVs, but I think there was a sports podcast on when we went lol There were also a number of classic red leather loveseats that I think would be great for couples on dates. The patio in the back was very vibey and had a bunch of lights. There was a birthday party set up back there, so I think you can host parties there if you contact the bar. The floor was made up of wooden planks over the ground, so it wasn't unusual to see bugs on the ground outside. Not much to do about that for an outdoor patio though. There's also a comically large wooden chair that you could take a photo op in lol All in all, this is a classic dive bar that satisfies everything you want when you're in the mood to go to one.

Ambiance (3.5/5): Pretty much your typical Irish pub. Chill, lots of wood, a decent amount of TVs. The type of casual spot where you can have a good beer, talk, and watch a soccer game. Which is exactly what we did since the World Cup was going on. We sat at the bar. They also have a patio in the back, but I didn't check it out. Service (4/5): McElroy's wasn't too busy when we arrived, but service was solid. We had a beer, closed out, and we were on our way. Food (N/A): We were on a liquid diet, but I did notice that they have free hot dogs during Astros games. That's a pretty awesome perk. Drinks (4/5): As you would expect, heavy on beer though they have a full bar. When I'm at an Irish pub, I'm going to go with an Irish or British beer. They have a good number of those options too. Plus daily happy hours, including weekends, and daily specials. I love a bar that has a good number of deals. You'll find that here.

The food is very good - a mix of pub fare and authentic Irish to match the atmosphere. We particularly love the cheese curds, potato skins and loaded baked potato soup, but the shepherds pie, corned beef and cabbage, and fall off the bone lamb shank are just as good. The true surprise is the pizza - by far the best in Houston! They recently brought in darts and pool tables, and regularly host trivia and karaoke! Rarely do you find a place that feels like home, but the staff is wonderful and welcoming and the vibes are right. We can't recommend it enough!

Walking in, the decor reminded me of the pub in our hotel in Dublin. It was clean, and nothing very worn or damaged. Very clean, cleaner than I expected a tavern to be. The menu didn't have everything that we had seen when viewing online (here), but it had the things hubby was wanting to try so that's all that mattered, and not the first restaurant to switch up menus. Less options for my vegetarian needs than I expected but I got a couple of sides which were very good and a wedge salad which was tasty. It may sound weird but I often judge restaurants based upon their salad ... I mean if they serve me wilted lettuce and questionable toppings, why would I want anything else from them? This was great, super fresh ingredients without the lettuce being watery which is another said pet peeve. Husband tried both the fish and chips and shepherds pie (which he took to go). Fish was fried to perfection, crisp and he said very tasty. He said the pie was great as well. Our server was working the entire front of house, waiting and bartending, and several other tables filled up as we were eating and she handled it flawlessly, and said it was only her third day. She's a keeper (but please get her some help lol). I think likely only one person in the kitchen as well, but didn't impact the food quality or how quickly it was delivered, so overall I was very impressed with the team. Darts, pool, music and trivia rounded everything out. I highly recommend this spot, I think you'll like the food, the drinks, the team and the vibe.

And if you've got a bunch of cash you are looking to burn for a yummy dinner because they're cash only. And one drink purchase is required. Amazing seasoning, which they actually sell I think! The steak itself runs about $35ish If you add a half rack of lamb, double that price. If you want one side, and or sausage add $5 each. This picture here is a plate with a half portion of steak, sausage, lamb, mashed tatoes. Not pictured is the other half portion + a beer that was with my Fiancée. With tip, this ran us $95 for dinner on a Thursday. Almost a benjamin, I wouldn't say this was a good deal but it was a tasty dinner. Steak night starts at 7, which means that's when they start taking orders. If you want to beat the rush, you should already be in your seat by 6:30-6:45. It's a two-man show on steak night. The husband is outside grilling everything on what looks like a standard home grill while the wife is taking orders. Orders go out in batches. They're definitely efficient and work as fast as they can, but with that comes a little abruptness- they aren't the friendliest, but they're focused on getting everyone fed. We got there at 7:05 and didn't get our food until 8:25. Was the wait worth it? Absolutely. The steak was tender and juicy. The lamb chop was charred perfectly. And surprisingly enough, the sausage was my favorite. It was JUICY. When you bite into it, the juices literally burst out. Something had a little kick to it... it wasn't the sauce, but I actually liked it. The jalapeño cheddar mashed potatoes were also great.

If you don't want to order from their kitchen, they do have food trucks and other artisan vendors, entertainment. Do a tour if you can. It's kid and dog-friendly.
