Love FREE public transportation options when visiting different cities! We stayed within walking distance of Scottsdale, but used the MLHD Free Trolley to help get us to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick for the Giants/Rockies game. A short walk to the trolley stop and about a 20min walk to the stadium wasn't bad at all. The trolley was nearly empty both directions and the drivers were friendly. Surprisingly enough, the first day I was in Scottsdale, it was gray and rainy. Just my luck. But the Scottsdale Trolley came to our rescue, as we wanted to continue exploring the Old Town area. The Scottsdale Trolley is a FREE, public trolley that runs every 15 minutes. No questions asked, you can hop on the trolley at one of the many stops around the downtown Scottsdale area and ride to your next stop. The route isn't very long. You can actually walk the entire downtown Scottsdale area. But you won't want to do that when it's raining. When we took this on a Tuesday afternoon, there was only one other person on the trolley, so not sure when it gets busy or packed. But we were glad to ride this trolley through town to avoid the rain. It's very cool that the city provides this service for the public. read more

Free public transportation! Come on now, what is there to complain about!? I know that trolleys are more appealing than buses or trams and some might consider a trolley as adventurous or risky. As someone who has used public transportation in many cities, to me, this trolley system is top notch. Yes, the ride can be bumpy, as with any other bus line... so if you're susceptible to get motion sickness, know that upfront. To me, it wasn't a bumpy ride at all though. The fellow passengers were all older and obviously on for the site seeing adventure. I only rode at midday though. I will admit, the wait for my very first ride was longer than the posted 10 minutes. The others seemed quicker. On one pickup, the driver was so kind and explained that she wasn't going back into Old Town, so we would need to take the next trolley. The next trolley was literally two minutes later. There seemed to be stops everywhere. If there wasn't someone waiting at a stop, they just passed the stop up, so if do decide to go along for a joy ride, it doesn't annoyingly stop an go as transportation lines in other cities do. read more

After munching on brunch delights at Bada Boom Pasta Room, my comrad had a splendid idea. "Let's hop on this trolley and see where it takes us!" Uhm, why not? So, we rode the trolley on its route, which included areas around downtown Scottsdale. It was fun, I'll admit. I never thought it would be, but you can sit in a comfortable air conditioning trolley car as it lurches to and fro. It does occasionally stop, with the driver confessing, "We'll be stopped here for 5 minutes, then be on our way again." I can't imagine what it'd like to drive the same route over and over and over again... But I'm sure you can have some fun talking with guests, who may be visiting Scottsdale and no little, if anything, about the place. I just love the idea of public transportation, especially if it's free. After riding for a little bit longer, my comrad and I hopped off at Cafe Carumba for some espresso. Then we took our drinks and walked the length of the Mondrian Hotel. We were drawn to the pool area, where it looked like a scene right out of a movie. Bronze beauties and muscular men all bathing in the pool. A DJ was playing music and misters offered reprieve from the summer heat. This was, after all, July in Scottsdale. I think you can easily make a day out of touring the area, especially when you can hop on and off the trolley. Loved it. The driver picked us up when we waved down the trolley - not at a regular stop. We asked him to tell us about the town and he was awesome at pointing out historical things and good places to shop or eat. This thing is free! And the driver again dropped us off at a non-regular stop when we finally found our car. This is a real treat and a free find... a must-do when you're in Scottsdale. read more

This is a free trolley service so really I can't complain. I made the mistake of bringing a huge thing of french fries from the Yard House (review of fries coming soon!). I was pretty hungry, but I wanted to make sure the tourists on the trolley were happy bc they are the lifeblood of this city. I ended up sharing most of my fries and I was hungry when I got back to work. Luckily my office has snax, but I think my coworkers are getting sick of the disproportionate amount of snax I consume in relation to how many snax they consume (I am a sucker for chex-mix (tm)). The trolley itself rides nicely. It is not a Cadillac by any means, but for a trolley the rattle and road noise are not as bad as you'd think. The seats are very clean if you compare the trolley service to the Phoenix metro (don't ride if you value your health). If you are visiting Scotty town USA (Scottsdale) I highly recommend the trolley especially if you are planing on going to a Giants spring training game - the traffic is soooo bad for the locals during these games. Please consider the trolley to prevent gridlock It takes you right to the front of the stadium. read more

If you answered yes to any of these questions then let me introduce you to the Downtown Scottsdale Trolley. It's FREE my friends. It's free, runs every 15 minutes, drives around the perimeter of Old Town and within the last year or so took over one of the Scottsdale Public Bus routes which means the route is now even larger! Chances are, if you live around, near or in Old Town, you can (and should) be using this free shuttle service! Where is a bus stop? Everywhere! Just look for the Trolley sign and wait for around 15 minutes. I can't promote this great mode of transportation that's not only free but fun to ride! I just wish it operated later in the night, but then taxi cabs might go out of business! read more

i cant believe what just happened to me on the fashion square mall trolley. i was treated like a criminal and thrown off. two weeks ago i was informed by a training manager of the scottsdale trolley system that the maximum number of times one can go around is two and then you must get off and wait for another trolley. i respected that. today a prejudiced female driver kicked me off after only one trip around and said i was misinformed (she said "wrong", her vocabulary was not vast enough for "misinformed"). i am an educator in the valley trying to enjoy my vacation time off in old town the coolest possible way. this was very upsetting and degrading. read more

Terrible. Got car sick (along with many others) after 3 minutes of being on the trolley. Also, there was no air conditioner, nor circulation in the trolley. It was beyond hot. Yes, I know this service is free... however it was just simply terrible and SLOWWW. read more

Pretty cool! Free trolley that runs every 15 minutes through Old Town. I probably makes other stops in Downtown but we only rode it around Old Town. It was a vintage, retro decor inside with wooden seats and gold poles. Reminds me of a carosel for some reason. Anyway, everything is free and there's no tip accepted. I can see it being a great GREAT transportation service for bar hopping in Old Town. read more

Inexperienced driver took off before making sure all passengers were seated or holding a strap. Consequently I fell and am in severe pain. He then co tinted to drive irresponsibility back to the parking lot - using hard jerky braking. Don't use this service if you value your health and watch out for them on the road when driving/walking too! read more
