My experience with Dr. Scott has been amazing. I've had stubborn acne since my teenage years leading up to my late twenties. By then, my acne had progressively shifted to my cheeks, lower jawline and neck. Makeup wasn't something fun to experiment with, it was a necessity! And even though, I could hide the pigmentation, I could not hide the uneven texture and bumps of my skin. I've been put on antibiotics (just made me sick), changed my diet to cut out dairy, put myself on birth control, changed my skincare routine to a more gentler Korean-inspired approach and although they helped a bit, I still had stubborn acne that would not go away and took a huge hit to my self-esteem. Before Dr. Scott, I went to another dermatologist who took one brief look at me, didn't ask for my background and then wrote me a prescription for accutane and left. Accutane is incredibly harsh and has numerous side effects, and although I know many individuals have had success with it, I felt that it was such a severe step into acne treatment and I wanted to explore other options. Therefore, I'm thankful for Dr. Scott and his approach to acne. Dr. Scott himself is a very warm and kind individual. Upon our first meeting, he spent a good amount of time asking about my life and getting to know me. He then proceeded to examine my face and mentioned how he didn't want to put me on accutane, but to try a different treatment - spironolactone first. Spironolactone works by lowering androgen levels in your body. Before prescribing me that though, he asked me to have a blood panel done to test certain levels of androgens in my body. As a result, I appreciate the thorough and methodical approach he takes and explanations on why he was prescribing me this drug. And wow, the difference was night and day. I've posted a year progress photo of when I was put on Spiro, and now under Dr. Scott's supervision. I have no side effects and my blood tests are completely normal. I do have to watch my potassium intake on this drug but it's very easy. I still do get the occasional breakout, but it is gone within a day. It is wonderful not to have to worry about acne anymore and my self-confidence has severely boosted because now I am not worrying about whether or not someone is staring at my acne while they talk to me. In a sense I feel slightly vindicated since so many people suggested, "Well you just need to stop touching your face/stop eating dairy/wash with X" when all along my issue was hormonal-based, and I never would have known this if it wasn't for Dr. Scott. The best part is that I am now able to work with Dr. Scott on skin rejuvenation and improving the texture of my skin vs constantly worrying about acne. Makeup is actually fun now, and I don't have to worry about not being seen without it. Highly would recommend seeing Dr. Scott! read more

I've never been to a dermatologist before. I've always had good clear skin. Earlier this year I noticed my face getting red and splotchy with red bumps. I looked up rosaea dermatologists and Dr. Scott came up. Dr. Scott is a very friendly and engaging doctor. He asked me a few questions about my skin and health. He offered to compound his own lotions and said to try them out for two weeks. Well, two weeks have gone and I'm impressed with the results. These are before and after pictures after two weeks of treatment. The lighting is a bit different but you can see my skin is less red and the rosacea bumps have diminished. The red bumps have all flattened and left their dark mark but that'll go away in time. I also have Keratosis pilaris. I don't have any pictures but for those who have it knows what it looks and feels like. Dr. Scott gave me some mixture with petroleum jelly and my arms have never looked better and it's smooth! I love touching my arms now! I was a bit worried about the lotions, but they work. I know some people find it a bit sketchy about the compound lotions but he mixes them by hand and lets the patients try them out for a couple of weeks. There's no gimmick or crazy expensive laser procedures. The easy low maintenance lotions have been impressive so far. This office staff was friendly and quick to get me checked in and roomed. The office is old school. Bring cash or check book as they don't accept credit cards. They also have no voicemail so I couldn't leave messages. I am so grateful to have read the couple of reviews from Yelp, which assisted in my decision to call and make my appointment with Dr. Scott. I was able to see the doctor the same day I called, which was a miracle b/c I was in a lot of pain, due my eczema/summer rash. I get to my appointment and I was greeted by a friendly young lady at the front. I filled out paper work and minutes later, she takes me to the patient room. The doctor comes in right after and we meet for the very first time. I knew immediately I was in good hands. Dr. Scott put on these huge glasses and he knew from the start what I suffered from. He said that what I have, I've had since birth that it's hereditary. (He was right on the money, what I have I've had since birth & it's from my dad's side). He seemed to genuinely care about me and began asking questions about my background, my parents, what high school I went to, what it was I do for a living....is just a hands-on kind of a person. Next he excused himself to whip up some ointment for me, then came back and explained what it was and how often to use it. He told me to come back this Saturday because he wanted to see how the ointment was treating me and that it should clear up quickly. I have to say that the pain, itchiness and high temperature has ceased. We're talking the very next day here folks! This rash was extreme too! It made it's way to the nape area of my hairline, arms, face, legs, lower back, ankles and neck area. I've had the pleasure of knowing and being a client of the late Dr. Homer Harris and the retired Janet Rogge. I'm so very grateful that I no longer need to depend on drug store ointments or creams. I thank God that I found an old school, personable and knowledgable, Dr. M. Scott, Jr.! Finally, just note that if you do get some ointment whipped up for you, he doesn't accept debit/credit cards; only cash, check or money orders. At least, I think this is what the lady @ the front mentioned. They do however accept insurance for the actual office visit. I love this office! Today was my first time here and I was impressed. Not only was the front office lady super nice and informative, but they got me into a room right away! It didn't take Dr. Scott long to come in and see me. He was thorough and optimistic. True the decor is not fancy, but I doubt that they were trying to branch out as a trendy hipster hangout. They know what they're doing and they're fast and nice about it! I highly recommend this office if you have a skin problem you want solved. If you're looking for a futuristic office with chimes and Oolong tea, and you're not so worried about your itchy flaky skin then this is not the place for you. This review will cover the doctors bed side manner and the procedure done for my wife only. Doctor Scott is a true professional. His office is a small practice run out of a large medical building, however it is in his skill that should be noted. My wife required a procedure to a remove a blemish and he was able to correctly identify and immediately perform a corrective procedure. I have recently moved back to DC so unfortunately I had to find a new doctor. My new doctor has made me appreciate Dr. Scott even more. He really cares about his patients and the quality of his work. Dr. Scott and his staff are wonderful. It's a quirky, no-ego office that does it right. I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and rosacea and within a day I saw results and everything was cleared up within two weeks. I like that he initially uses a low-impact approach rather than goes straight to some weird chemical remedy. He's treating me for some other issues, as well so this isn't a one-and-done review. The doctors neither honest nor competent, though they are very nice. I, too, was sold a cream that wouldn't disclose to me. I made the mistake of paying my first copay in cash and didn't get a receipt, then was told the next time I hadn't paid, though I knew I had. I should have known better on both accounts, but we expect our docs to be honest. right? Front office staff were helpful during scheduling. Sure, it took me a few attempts to get thru a busy line. I am sure that others tried to call when the office staff were on the phone with me. I think it is funny how people will line up for hours to wait for the next iPhone, but they can't comprehend the concept of waiting for the phone line at a doctor's office to open up to take your call. Dr. Scott is adorable, full of personality. He sees the patient and the problem, instead of concentrating on charting and coming up with a diagnosis code. I am in the medical field as well and dealing with insurance is more work than what most patients realize & appreciate. Providers are bombarded with so much paperwork to justify medical costs that it is rare that a doctor spends more time looking at you than the monitor. I scheduled the initial appointment expecting a quick evaluation, then off to make another appointment for the procedure. I have a mole that hardened beneath the skin surface. Dr. Scott said that it looked irritated and it should be removed. Dr. Scott made time to perform the procedure during the same visit, sent the mole off to biopsy. I returned for a follow up visit 2 weeks later, got my stitches removed and the biopsy result was non-cancerous. I had almost given up on the hope of ever having clear skin before finding Dr. Scott. I've struggled with acne my entire adult life. I'd tried everything over the decades, from Accutane to every expensive medical spa regime, and everything in between. It is unnerving to think of how much money I've spent on creams, ointments, and to think of all the times I burnt my skin with harsh products or was told to take the pill despite it completely destroying my social life. But Dr. Scott assured me he could help. Not only was he kind and empathetic when I first came into his office, he was incredibly thorough with his questions and in assuring me that there was still hope to treat what has frankly been a lifelong embarrassment. He listened to how hard it has been, and understood my reluctance to try anymore products. He tested my hormones (no other doctor has done this) and sent me home with a custom treatment plan, and honestly, some long-overdue optimism. I could not believe it when my skin started to clear. Over the weeks, Dr. Scott continued to tweak the treatment plan, and my skin radically improved. It's still a surprise to type this, but I currently have completely acne-free skin, and have stopped wearing cover-up for the first time in my adult life. I never thought this would happen for me. The receptionist was very nice and they fit me in easily. But that was the last easy part. The Dr took one look at me and starting talking, hardly asked me any questions and wrote a list of prescriptions and told me to come back in three weeks. My pharmacist had a hard time reaching them to clarify the prescription. Apparently the office tried to call and left me a message on the wrong number, never bothered to find out why I didn't respond. I tried reaching them several times and always got a busy signal, or an out of office message with no way to leave a message. They also have truly bizarre hours. I had never had eczema (any skin issues ever) in my life (52 yo). I suffered for a couple of weeks using Dr Google/Youtube and self diagnosis...bad move! My face, neck and chest were inflamed, raw, hot and itchy. I was miserable and I looked horrible. My doctors office could not get me in for 2 months to see dermatologist. Working downtown next to med/dent bldg, my provider showed Dr Scott in network. I called first thing Monday AM and they got me in at 2:00 that day! MIRACLE!! I entered the office and it was small but thought, don't judge. I filled out paperwork and was ushered into an exam room almost immediately. Dr. Scott entered just a few minutes later. I was surprised. He was a 'more distinguished' fellow and reminded me of a mad scientist. LOL. I thought O boy, I'm in trouble, what a waste. He took one look at me and knew what was wrong. He put his 'special' glasses on and took a sample of my skin and said he'd be right back. A few minutes later he comes in and says its eczema, probably from something in environment I came into contact with (I have no idea what). He said, lets get your skin cooled down and relaxed. I'll be right back, going to 'mix you up something'. Thinking again, O boy, I'm in trouble. He left, went to his magic room and concocted some creams. One for during day and another for night time. He told me to rub in on every hour for a week, call me on Wednesday to let me know how its working and come see me next Monday. I kid you not, that cream started working immediately. When I got home THAT day, I could see it already working. When I called in on Wednesday (BTW, they called me first and left a msg) my eczema was at least 60-75% better/gone. I was totally amazed as I heard horror stories of weeks/months for this stuff to clear up. I went to my Monday follow up appointment and Dr. Scott took one look at me was amazed at how fast I had healed up. I'm still putting the cream on once or twice a day because I can see the deep tissue is still healing. He said if I had waited much longer to get this taken care of I could have had a really bad skin infection. True they do not do credit/debit cards, only cash for the creams. I could submit the receipt to my FSA for reimbursement so I did not care about that. I had relief and healing. Of that I am truly grateful. I highly recommend Dr. Michael Scott Sr. I have been a patient of his several times recently I visited him for a problem of hair loss I am in my 50's and have alway had a head full of hair and my hair was coming out by the comb full. I visited two other dermatologist and they both had no solution for the problem except wait and see if it stops. A visit to Dr. Scott because of his years of experience and expertiste he diagnosed the problem and started treatment. My hair has now stopped falling out and I am thrilled to see some new hair starting to grow back. I call him the doctor of the stars as he has a wall of prominent celebrities on his wall with signed pitcures thanking him for his care. If you need a good doctor he is the one.
