In San Diego county we have an embarrassment of orthopedic riches. Many top notch surgeons and top…read morenotch facilities to choose from. I met with three and chose Hanson. Dr. Hanson stands out in that environment. Many great surgeons are prima donnas. Not Dr. Hanson. He's very personable. I had both hips replaced as well as my left knee, over an 8 month period. All three went exceptionally well. According to two different physical therapists, these three joint replacement were each at the very high end of surgical quality and outstanding recovery. I'm an very pleased and very thankful.

I'm going to write a short book here, because it seems to be the only way to communicate how much I appreciate Dr. Hanson, and why. Over the years, I had met with nearly a dozen orthopaedists, gotten relief from various injections, looked at all manner of edge-therapies, had three conservative surgeries on the knee, lived with the outcomes, and eventually was advised to go ahead and get the replacement. Along the way, I observed the bedside manner of all of these doctors, noting that joint-replacement specialists, like many specialists, are, perhaps because of their training and lofty intellect, not as interested in patient communication as are most GP's. Some of them, I think, interact best with patients who are... unconscious. After doing a good deal of asking around, I was lucky to be referred to Dr. Peter Hanson at Grossmont Orthopaedic. His credentials were unbeatable, and his ratings on Yelp and elsewhere were remarkable. So, I timed my appointment with him to also satisfy my desire for a second opinion. My experience with Dr. Hanson at that appointment was so excellent that, although he truly intended only to offer a second opinion, I was nearly ready to ask him to perform the procedure himself. For a leading medical specialist, Dr. Hanson is astonishingly low-key and patient. Very approachable yes, but it's more than that. He's more like my trusted old friend taking care of me. Anyway, after yet another rushed, slightly contentious session with my other (busy, up-and-coming rockstar) specialist, I had had enough and scheduled my surgery instead with Dr. Hanson in January. On surgery day, he was a comfort both before and after the procedure. Now in my 6th week of recovery, I am delighted that I chose Dr. Hanson to perform my surgery. Although the recovery requires substantial effort, physical therapy, and some pain tolerance, my knee gets better each day. In closing, if you are lucky enough to get Peter Hanson as your joint replacement surgeon, you are in exceptionally fine hands. I cannot recommend him to you highly enough.

He will spend quality time with you and make sure that you understand and answer all questions. His kindness goes beyond words. I recently on May 18 had a shoulder replacement that was unexpected. His beside manner was beyond words. To say the least, I was not looking forward to the surgery, and he put me at ease. I felt safe and knew he was going to do his BEST!! Our medical family as well as myself will be referring to Dr. Rynning. In fact, I already have sent several his way. Marlene, runs the office in a seamless manner. She is organized and structured. She stays on top of everything that needs to be in place. Christine, also was on top of the surgery dates and times. Both Marlene and Christine, made sure that the PT felt they could call for any questions or concerns. I am currently going into my 6th week and following the instructions and directions along with PT. I am seeing results. The Doctor and team gave 4 pages of details of where I should be with my rehab. What more can I say except This is the only Doc - Surgeon to go too! The BEST of the BEST!!!

Hello everyone,…read more Jorge here posting about my experience at Orthopedic Specialists of San Diego. I had a Right patellar tendon rupture and needed a right patellar tendon repair.Let me start by saying that since the first appointment I knew they were really professional and had empathy towards their patients. From Cindy in the front desk to both surgeons that operated on me to their whole staff. Both Dr. Steven Allsing, & Dr. Scott Barker were very attentive, & answered all my questions. They were very clear and explained the surgical procedure step by step, so I had a clear understanding. I felt a sense of security the moment I walked out of their office. My surgery went well and Dr. Scott Barker followed up with me to answer any questions and/or concerns I had post surgery. I really recommend Orthopedic Specialists of San Diego to anyone that requires orthopedic surgery. I am a patient and I can tell you, you are in great hands. I can tell the difference 3 weeks post surgery. Thanks to them I will soon get back to my daily activities and enjoy life. Thank you all over at Orthopedic Specialists of San Diego!

This was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a doctor's office. The front desk staff were…read moreextremely rude and unprofessional, especially toward non-white patients. Their behavior made me feel unwelcome and disrespected, as if they had no interest in doing their jobs or treating people with basic courtesy. A medical office should be a place of care and respect, but instead I left feeling dismissed and uncomfortable. I would not recommend this office to anyone looking for compassionate or professional treatment.
