Naturally, I was curious about this notion and asked my parents if I could have one. My dad banked with TD (Toronto Dominion) well before it became TD Canada Trust. This branch used to be on the southwest corner of Queen Street East and Lee Avenue. It's now a Coles. Oddly, it's shortened these days to TD because it's easier to say. My mom had bank accounts at this Scotiabank. They decided that since my mom stayed at home at the time that I should get an account with Scotiabank from this branch and we could do banking together. It still exists, which makes me happy. My mom and I visited this branch to get a Getting There savings account for me. This program also exists after all these years! If you're under twelve years of age, you need an adult to open an account with you. It gives you high interest as a youth. I saw the magic with compound interest back then. I'm hoping that the magic is still there with this savings account. Back then, it was a paper account book with maple leaves on the cover. Whenever I had enough to deposit $5, we'd go to the bank. I'd fill out a deposit slip and visit a teller who would complete the deposit and print out my new savings account total for me. It was exciting for me as a kid. I had this account all the way through high school. Here's hoping that kids get a bank card and can do deposits at the ABM, with hitting a teller as a last resort. My parents and I moved to Markham. All three of us ended up changing our bank branches and accounts. My parents cancelled their respective accounts from branches in the Beaches and ended up with RBC. I cancelling my savings account here and moved to Winnipeg to open an RBC account. I like Scotiabank. I liked banking here. My mom did, too. RBC was the closest branch to where I lived in Winnipeg, so I went with it. There was one Chinese bank teller named Judy. She and my mom spoke Cantonese. It was nice and a rarity at the time in the Beaches, which wasn't as culturally diverse as it is now. The ABMs are inside the branch. It has better hours of operation. It's open till 5 pm on most days, except Saturdays when it closes at 4 pm. It's closed on Sundays. It was nice stopped in front of this branch to reminisce as I waited for the traffic light to change. I'm pleased that this branch endures. (123)

It's a couple of doors down from a Starbucks cafe that I also like to visit now and again. This Scotiabank branch does not have a drive-thru, similar to the Starbucks. This branch does have parking spots in front of it with the Scotiabank logo marking each spot. Each logo is attached to a post that allows folks with bikes to chain and lock them up. There are a couple of ABMs on the left when you enter the branch. The area is clean and the ABMs are available 24 hours a day. The branch is closed on Sundays. Its teller hours are similar to other Scotiabank branches. It's open from 9:30 am Monday through Saturday. It closes at 5 pm from Monday through Wednesday. It stays open an extra hour on Thursdays and Fridays. On Saturday, it closes at 4 pm. I have never needed any teller services. I tend to hit the ABM to either deposit or withdraw money. It's a nice branch to visit. I have never had any issues with the ABM or parking. (366)

For my 100th review, I decided to highlight a bank branch. We came here two years ago to inquire…read moreabout a mortgage, and found the bank officers to be very knowledgeable and helpful. First of all, they helped us obtain a very competitive rate, much better than the rates at other banks. Since I'm an American, it was much more work since I didn't have Canadian credit history, but they were willing to cover the cost of requesting a US credit report. They were also willing to reduce the holding period for US currency transferred in. The bankers that we worked with were always on top of things and were very accommodating. Not everything was smooth sailing, though. One time they lost a bank draft, but were very apologetic and expedited a replacement bank draft. As our mortgage renewal is coming up, Scotiabank was not able to give us as competitive a rate as before, so we'll have to move on. But the bank officer, again, was helpful in answering our questions about how to maximize our payments without penalty. He even asked us to notify him when there are 3 bi-weekly payments in a month because their mortgage payment systems don't properly handle more than 4 payments a month (we decided to start matching our payments). So kudos to the bank officers at this Scotiabank branch for being knowledgeable, customer-centric, and very accommodating. It truly changes the way I perceive banks. Note: All 5 major Canadian banks can be found at this plaza, so shop around!

This Scotiabank branch is located at Malvern Town Centre. It faces Tapscott Road and is located by a mall entrance, with Hakka Pavillon on the other side of this entrance. I was heading out after having a leisurely lunch at the food court and passed by this branch. I hit an ABM to take out some cash from my Tangerine chequing account. Transactions are free at any Scotiabank. What's cool about this branch is that it has three ABMs. Many Scotiabank locations have two. It's nice to have the extra one. There was a lineup for teller services. I left at around 3 pm. On Saturdays, the branch closes at 4 pm. I like that this branch opens at 9:30 am every day, except for Sunday when it's closed. When the mall and this branch are closed for the day, there's a door outside that is unlocked till 11 pm every night. You can enter this door to use the ABM. The ABM side of this branch was clean. It had a garbage bin next to each ABM, which was a nice touch. I had no issues withdrawing money from the ABM that I used. It was great dropping by this branch. I'd return when I'm back in the area. One is to have a bank without tellers. You can do most of your banking (except a few things like bank drafts) via bank machines, laptops, telephones, and speaking to consultants. It is a rather big open space with standalone tables, couches, bean bags, meeting rooms, and children tables with crayons and drawing paper. The large space can be used for seminars (eg financial education), workshops, events, and private events. There is usually an interactive robot there (that can also dance!) but it is being repaired. My son attended a workshop about how to deal with money. They asked questions and taught a few financial terms like needs, wants, deposit, withdrawal, debit, credit. One problem is the mall pedestrian traffic and talking is so loud that it is hard to hear other children's responses so I had to ask the workshop leader to summarize responses so everyone can learn. They should also have for physically active activities since these are young kind. There is a water bar where you can get water or carbonated water. There is free WiFi The store is wheelchair. I didn't check about washrooms. There is free parking in the mall. Review 2022-107
