I was in the bank today at about 3:30pm or so to make a payment by cheque to the Receiver General…read more It was for HST from a Business account. I have been working for this company for over 7 years and have always made deposits and Revenue Canada payments at this branch. Today, I was told that I could not make the payment as I am not on the account. I am not on the account as I am employed by the company on Contract as the bookkeeper. I will never be on the account. I was then told the only other alternative was to open a personal account at the TD. I questioned this as it did not seem to make any sense. The cheque was a business cheque signed by authorized signatories for the business and the cheque was made out to the Receiver General. Why would I have to open an account to pay a bill by a cheque from the company. After not getting any real answer as to why or than it was policy, I left and went to the branch in Newmarket. I had to get this paid as the HST was due and I was not about to open an account. Needless to say I had no problem paying the bill with the cheque I had. I then asked to speak to the manager of that branch to get an explanation for the ordeal that I went through at the other branch. The manager was quite helpful and pleasant and apologized for what I went through. She recommended that I continue to go to her branch with regards to the Business account and that there is no such policy by the TD to open an account to pay a business account bill by cheque. The drive into Newmarket is not far but traffic is pretty bad on Davis at Hwy 404 at the end of the day. My suggestion for the TD is to get all their branches on the same page. I feel that this policy the other branch told me was something that was made up because they obviously had no idea how to pay a bill with a signed business cheque. I can understand a teller not knowing how to pay the bill (newbee) but I sure would expect the person in charge of the place would have a pretty good grasp on how things work.

I would like to acknowledge the amazing customer service I have received from Dylan at the BMO…read moreHillcrest branch. Dylan sits at a desk helping customers in person or on the phone and if there is a line-up to see a teller and you're lucky you will be invited to sit down at his desk and he will assist you. Banks have a reputation of putting their interests first but Dylan puts the customer first. I needed to make a cash withdrawal and through this Dylan noticed we had a significant amount in our savings account at a low interest rate. He let me know that there was a promotion where we could earn 5% and set me up and explained that it was time limited but to see him when it expired. From then on I have referred to him as my "Personal Banker" and he has helped us out many other times. Dylan's strong customer service orientation builds loyalty and we would highly recommend the Hillcrest BMO branch.

However, my experience here was even better than the usually good experiences I have with TD. I came in here on a Thursday after lunch. There were about 15 people in front of me (which is always torture because it seems like half of them will be paying 8 bills, withdrawing large sums of cash in nickels, and getting a car loan at the same time). When my time finally came, I had a simple, yet slightly out-of-the-norm request for a cheque from my US side account. Anthony was welcoming, straightforward, and handled my request as if it was the best thing he could be doing. If there was anyone you could call "cool, calm, and collected", it was Anthony. I was frustrated with the line wait, yet left feeling completely satisfied and much more calm myself. Very pleased with my service experience.

Disappointing Service Friction and Process Errors…read more On March 25th, I requested a straightforward fund switch through the investment mutual fund CIBC/SIMPLII FINANCIAL call center. Despite reviewing the Fund Facts with the agent, the trade was processed incorrectly. It took until first week of May and over three hours of my time spread over March, April and May on multiple phone calls to resolve this, as I was forced to navigate a one-way communication system where I could not call agents back directly. Despite the now compounding complications due to impacting three funds I hold, the supervisor demonstrated professionalism to his best ability given the circumstances; however, the resolution process involved significant and avoidable friction. Being told there was confusion from both parties about my own instructions, only for them to to find out about their own error, was particularly a let down. I value my relationship with CIBC, but the administrative burden placed on the client to fix a bank error was significant. I am hoping CIBC takes this feedback seriously to improve their internal records and communication accessibility. I am prepared to update this rating once CIBC demonstrates proper service recovery and accountability for this significant loss of personal time and effort.

The main branch doors are on the south side of the building. I didn't go in, but the branch looks nice from afar. I tried out the drive-thru instead. I have figured out why I like drive-thrus. My dad never liked going through them because he is soft-spoken and folks on the other end of the speaker couldn't hear him. I find it fun, as if I'm making up for lost time. The drive-thru ATM is on the west side of the building. I didn't realize that there was a drive-thru because you cannot see it from Markham Road. Ah, it all makes sense now. I had no problems entering and checking out the ATM. I don't bank as often as I used to at Royal Bank, but I still do now and again. There is plenty of parking in front of the branch. I'm glad that I finally checked it out. (185)
