Note that when you rent from them, the facility is not fully fenced in, so anyone can pull up on the road up front and walk around the side of the gate to gain entry to the site. The units that are plastic cubes are easily pried open, which apparently happened to the one I rented. It had been 2-3 months since I had last been there so when I arrived yesterday expecting to grab a couple of items, I found my unit broken into, robbed and the door propped shut with a stick. I can't believe no one from this company even bothered to let me know that my unit was clearly opened/tampered with. Does anyone even come inspect the premises here??? Apparently not. Any other storage place that doesn't have an on site attendant, will at least have someone come and walk the grounds every day or two. If Elizabeth City Self Storage did that, they would have noticed the unlatched door with a tree limb leaned up against it holding it closed. It had clearly been a while since this happened because animals had time to build nests amongst the remaining belongings that thieves and other tenants didn't bother to help themselves to. Kids had also been in there and played - leaving toys and soda bottles. Whatever/whoever was in the unit also urinated all over most of what was left behind which just added insult to injury. I tried to call and got their overseas call center. I emailed and got no response. If you're a day late on the rent you'll get calls, texts, and emails constantly, but if your unit gets broken into and you want to cancel your lease or file an insurance claim, you won't hear anything back. Learn from my loss. There are plenty of other FULLY FENCED IN, secure storage places in Elizabeth City. Rent from one of those.

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!! I am heartbroken to say that my…read morestorage unit at Elizabeth City Storage is completely covered in mold, and everything I stored there is ruined. Despite using DampRid throughout the unit to manage moisture, there was significant condensation that led to extensive damage. Many of my items were collectibles and sentimental pieces from my grandfather, who has passed away. I've sat at my storage unit crying over all the memories lost, appliances, my diplomas, collectible books, couches, mattresses, pictures of my husband with his father who has passed away--everything is gone. Losing these cherished belongings has been devastating, as they meant the world to me. Additionally, I have been trying to reach out to the owners regarding this issue for over a week, but they have been completely unresponsive to my numerous phone calls. This lack of communication is incredibly unprofessional and shows a complete disregard for their customers' concerns. Not to mention, they've increased the rent multiple times over the past year, which adds insult to injury given the circumstances. To the owners, this may seem like just another storage unit with lost property, but for me, this was my entire life. I trusted you with my most cherished possessions, and now, I have nothing but heartbreak and loss. I highly suggest anyone renting from this unit IMMEDIATELY go check their units to make sure that this hasn't happened to them. I strongly encourage anyone considering this facility to THINK TWICE. The lack of professionalism and customer care has left me with nothing but regret. I guess the only plus side to this entire situation is that they are right down the street from the dump, so at least we can conveniently get rid of all the ruined belongings.
