Prices are really good and include a helmet and lock. The bikes are in great shape and the owner of the shop, Adam, has great recommendations on trails/routes if you're unfamiliar with the area. He was really kind, helpful, and meticulous when making sure our bikes for us perfectly! Can't wait until my parents come into town, so I can take them on a bike and brew tour. Rollin' Rentals has an outfit at the HI-Austin hostel, where I rented the bike for $15 for the day (with no deposit in this case) through the hostel staff. The bikes were all looking a little rough, but since they're left outside, I wasn't surprised. I set my sights on the Trek hybrid bike, which I figured would suit my needs. Thankfully, I checked the brakes before peeling out of the hostel. The back brake was slack--WTF? So I peeked behind me, and sure enough, the whole thing was disconnected. I reattached the brake line, then borrowed an allen key from the hostel to tighten the cable. The real problem, however, was with the line at the handlebar, which I assume was why a previous renter had detached the cable in the first place. I was starting to understand why I'd signed a waiver. I decided the bike was unrideable and returned the borrowed allen key to the desk. My next pick in the lineup was the green "Eddie Bauer" hybrid, which initially I had avoided because it was full suspension (an abomination, in my opinion). Aside from some roughly shifting gears and a slow ride as a result of getting no power to the wheels, it worked for awhile ... and then the chain started popping off. Repeatedly. Bottom line: a low-quality bike in bad repair. I arrived at Barton Springs with greasy, grubby fingers, overtired from a difficult ride on a full suspension bike, and an extremely bruised ischiopubis from the bizarre seat which seemed cushion-y enough (but the way I'm walking today says otherwise). I rented a bike to have fun and get around the way I do when I'm back home. If I'd known it would be such a pain in the ass, I would have rented a car, or at least called him directly than just accepting what was available at the hostel ...

Not only will they throw in a helmet, bike lights, and a lock, they will also drop off the bike and pick it up wherever you want! My brother came to visit me a couple of weeks ago from Dallas and I wanted to rent him a bike so I could prove to him that one of the most biker friendly cities in the US does exist in TX. Even though Rollin Rentals did not have a review, I looked up their website and decided to give them a try. I called them up the day I wanted to rent a bike thinking I may be out of luck (procrastinator, I know!!), but luckily he had a couple of road ones available. Greg Mueller, the owner, was not only knowledgeable and friendly, but also very accommodating. He told me that if anything went wrong, a flat tire, anything really, to just give him a call anytime and he'd come find us. He was on time both when he dropped the bike off and picked it up. The hours of operation say from 2 - 9pm, but according to him, he's available all the time. The business is fairly new, and since the quality and price of the service exceeded my expectations I decided to finally create a Yelp account and review it so others can give it a try. I'm glad I decided to give this place a shot, and I will definitely be using them when my out of state peeps come out and visit for ACL this weekend. What state are my friends from you may ask...some things are better left unsaid, like what goes into making hot dogs or how many kids the stripper giving you a lap dance has. I just haven't had the time. I've had flats fixed and gotten tune ups and other repair services at a number of local bike shops so I have a good feel for typical pricing and timeframes to complete different types of service. There's no shortage of great bike shops in Austin and if you are looking for socialization, it's fun to visit various shops, but I work long hours and convenience is more important to me. I'd seen Ray's vehicle driving around the area (see picture on their web site home page) and I've heard good things from a neighbor so I tried them out when I got a flat about a week ago. I called around noon and within a couple of hours Ray was at my house where he not only fixed my flat, but he also took the time to show me how to do it. He also went over both my tires inch by inch, picking out small pieces of glass and the entire bill, including the home visit, was less than I'd paid at a local cycle shop. Even better, I didn't have to give up my bike for a day or more and I didn't have to find an hour to drop the bike off one day and another hour to pick it up the next day. I was due for a tune up and Ray's estimate was just slightly lower than I'd paid at the bike shop last year, but Ray's price included him picking up my bike and returning it to my house once the work was complete! I am so thrilled that not only did he save me all that time, but he did the work in less than 24 hours so I didn't even have to miss a single day of cycling! I could really feel the difference in how smooth my gears were shifting when I go the bike back today and my bike looked all shiny and new. I also love that Ray took the time to ask what maintenance I was doing on my own and he explained in detail a couple of really easy things I can do that I hadn't been doing. I am just thrilled that I found a MUCH more convenient cycle repair option at an extremely fair price. Be sure to check out his web site as they typically have a number of special offers and coupons. However, upon coming back there were different workers who were there and one particular girl was extremely rude. She was literally ignoring us purposely as we were right in front of her. She gave directives to just put the paddle and vest away and locked up the boards and left to close for the day. If I knew we were going to be treated this way at the end of our day, then I would've resorted to going to any of the many other options in the area with cheaper prices as well. We will definitely be back on the lake but won't be renting from here again.
