We were pleasantly surprised by their excellent coffee. Much better than Starbucks. I wish we had a scooters in our town.

I got a latte and breakfast sandwich, which were both really good. I went through the drive thru and they were super fast.

First time visiting Jacksonville and was recommended to try this place while visiting a friend. The shop has a fairly good menu with both coffee and pastry options. I ordered an iced caramel latte and it was OK; taste-wise it wasn't anything memorable and it wasn't as sweet as I'd hoped. As I was getting hungry and drinking coffee without some food was a bad idea (for my stomach haha) I ordered a sausage croissant. It took the cashier a minute to serve it, and when I tried the croissant, it's obvious it was over done. Too crispy, large flakes falling all over the plate, not soft at all etc that I ultimately wasted half of it. Overall, the best thing I enjoyed was less the food/drink and more of the peaceful, cozy environment. I like the set up, the comfy chairs and design. Personally I wouldn't come back here solo, but I can accompany a friend or hangout there.

Had a great Cappuccino and my wife had a drip coffee with heavy cream. We spent a few hours there needing to organize things and it was so very pleasant. If in the area, we would probably go there often.

I feel like I have to give this place 5 stars. The food is 4 to 4.5 (so far) but the fact that it's…read moretiny, local, family run, everything made from scratch just pushes it up that extra notch. Chicken fried chicken was juicy and properly seasoned and the best we'd ever had. Ditto for the green beans and the okra. She wouldn't tell us what she puts in the green beans, but it's some combination of bacon grease and magic, I swear. The okra was fresh cut, fresh battered, fresh fried, unlike every other place I get it where you can tell it's out of a bag. Hot water cornbread was ah-mazing. I only wish I had honey to slather on it along with the butter. White gravy was fantastic, with just a hint of sweetness we couldn't quite put our finger on. Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were delicious, but also the only things I can say were on par with some of our other favorites. Prices are extremely reasonable. And the service is as down home and personal as you would expect at a place like Sylvia Mae's. But don't expect quick delivery of your food. Everything is made to order and it takes time, so settle in and be patient. We will definitely return here as often as we can when we are in the area.
