Dog-friendly patio with tables and umbrellas-no pup cups though. They did make doggie a little milk foam-so sweet. A water bowl on patio would be nice. My dog did drink water from a cup. The girls working the counter were friendly and helpful. In downtown, but ample parking in garage across the street. We will be returning.

I've been to many, many coffee shops through my early adult years, but the first I started going to…read moreon a frequent basis was The Foundry, located right off the downtown square of Tyler, sitting on the first floor just beneath Bethel Bible Church. Though The Foundry is ultimately connected to Bethel as their nonprofit, and many Bethel members spend time there, it misses the mark of being what feels like a "Christian coffee shop". Instead feels like a coffee shop that is driven by God, which is a very important difference to make. The Foundry is welcoming to all and is a place of peace for all. Their space is quite large, with plenty of tables of all sizes in the back, bar seating, and more. There is an outside coffee garden space that is peaceful if you happen to be around during the three weeks where Texas weather is bearable. There are also a few tables in front of the shop. There's a room that always displays local artists' work. The Foundry roasts all their own beans under Porch Culture. The team behind Porch Culture seems to have a genuine care and passion for coffee roasting, which they obviously benefits from. Certain days in the shop, you can see them roasting and experimenting in the back. I, of course, had to leave with a bag of beans to take back to Austin with me. Recently, upon my trip back home, I had a vanilla latte of theirs, which was great, plus a cinnamon roll, which was delectable. They can get pretty busy on a Sunday before a Bethel service starts, but their team usually seems on top of it most times I visit and are all very friendly and talkative. I missed The Foundry. From my time in high school when I'd go to study, or through college breaks where I used it to get out of the house and work on side projects, it was a great place to hide out, and it still is as good as I remember. RIYL: That warm coffee smell and a good co-working space.

We went as far as Lake Athens to the Athens Boathouse Bar and Grill (which we knew was closed), to check out the location. We tooled around Athens just enjoying the Sunday. Having been to the Fisheries and the Botanical Garden before, we were looking for a different place to stop. A quiet offbeat place with food and sweet treats was what I had in mind. Callaways Coffee and Bistro popped up as a little house with adorable photos and lovely reviews and off we went. It was perfect. They have REAL FOOD here. I tried to reproduce the menu, but seriously they have pages of breakfast, salads and sandwiches. And COFFEE, of course. I had this amazing 100% Angus patty Cheeseburger - an enormous perfectly cooked patty. ($9.95) My husband ordered the Ragun Cajun, a spicy Chicken breast on ciabatta that he loved. ($9.95) They still had pie, blondies, cookies and assorted yummy sweet treats under glass. I had the Buttermilk pie with a Tender crust and totally delicious filling! ($2.75) Our server was a terrific young man; personable, helpful and a good cook! We had a good time. The bathroom is Unisex and clean. There is plenty of seating. We sat at a regular dining table, but there are plenty of tables for two or three in addition to chairs and sofas. Most parking is street side. I'm looking forward to coming back!

Love this place, love the food, and always look forward to bringing my girls here when we're in…read moretown visiting their grandparents. It's every little girl's Fancy Nancy -inspired bakery dream! I was so excited to discover that Tuesdays are gumbo and beignet days! Within 20 minutes of learning about this (new-to-me) special, we were walking through LP's doors. After ordering, the cashier came over and informed me that they only had two beignets left, despite the fact that I had already paid $7.50-$8 for a trio about 10 minutes earlier. I asked what the alternative would be, considering I had already paid for three. Her response was essentially just asking if two would be okay. Well... I guess they have to be, right? I suggested perhaps substituting the missing beignet with their cheapest cookie, since I had specifically ordered the trio because there were three of us. Apparently, there was some confusion with my suggestion because she again just asked if two beignets would be okay. I mean... what exactly are my other options here? I eventually just settled and said, "Sure, I guess." Two minutes later, she returned to let me know their inventory system was incorrect and they only had one of the sandwiches I ordered, so I needed to choose something else. No big deal! These things happen, and I completely understand. But apparently, substitutions *are* an option after all!? Meanwhile, my toddlers had begun fighting over the two desserts meant for three people. So, I went back to the counter and explained the situation to a different cashier. I asked if we could substitute the missing beignet for a sugar cookie, which was $2.50....almost exactly what I had paid per beignet. She double-checked the math and happily agreed. Hooray, day saved! Except... now BOTH toddlers wanted the beautiful, glittery sugar cookie. No problem! I went back to the counter to purchase another one. The cashier rang me up, I swiped my card, and we went about our day. Fast-forward to getting home and looking at my receipt: $4.50 for one $2.50 sugar cookie. Somehow, I had been charged for a completely different cookie. Now, in the grand scheme of things, $2 isn't going to make or break me. It's certainly not worth driving back over, considering I'd probably spend more than that in gas. But it IS frustrating to be charged incorrectly twice in one visit, within a 45-minute span, by two different employees. I genuinely love this bakery and will absolutely continue visiting, but I think there's room for improvement when it comes to inventory accuracy, communication, and handling situations where customers have already paid for items that aren't available. A simple, proactive offer to substitute or refund the missing item would have made the entire experience much smoother. And a little more attention at checkout (on my part too I guess) would have prevented the second issue altogether. Still love LP's, still love the food, just a slightly frustrating experience during an otherwise anticipated visit!
