But the actual sandwich (which I order every time I visit Schlotsky's) wasn't the best because I don't like so much roast beef, but that is personal preference. It was fresh and had the signature cut in the middle since I ordered a medium. Also, the entrance has a huge upward dip. So when you are crossing traffic from the opposite side your vehicle will bottom out. Same with exiting although it wasn't as dramatic of a bump. Just be aware of potential damage!

Okay, I will get a soup and sandwich combo as you can get a whole sandwich. Well, I got charged for a cup of soup and a sandwich. I did get a cheeseburger, but that is a sandwich. No explanation, no forewarning, just a charge. Oh, the meat in the burger tasted stale. We ordered diet Dr. Peppers with our meals. This is served in hot cans with a glass of ice. Also, the drinks had lost their sweetness due to improper storage. So, we had watered-down and not sweet sodas. The soup of the day, touted as taco, was chili. It was good, but the whole affair was a disappointment. The vibe is of a place on its way out as I too am.

Chicken fried chicken was juicy and properly seasoned and the best we'd ever had. Ditto for the green beans and the okra. She wouldn't tell us what she puts in the green beans, but it's some combination of bacon grease and magic, I swear. The okra was fresh cut, fresh battered, fresh fried, unlike every other place I get it where you can tell it's out of a bag. Hot water cornbread was ah-mazing. I only wish I had honey to slather on it along with the butter. White gravy was fantastic, with just a hint of sweetness we couldn't quite put our finger on. Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were delicious, but also the only things I can say were on par with some of our other favorites. Prices are extremely reasonable. And the service is as down home and personal as you would expect at a place like Sylvia Mae's. But don't expect quick delivery of your food.
