Coffee ice cream

Scoops 2 U came to my workplace.... Yum! Friendly server. Pic of my coffee ice cream with rainbow sprinkles.

My husband was outside of our home with our kids skateboarding and biking when Scoops2U truck drove into our neighborhood on Tuesday May 26th, 2020, around 4:30-5:00 PM. My 14-year-old son purchased ice cream that was supposed to be nut-free from their truck. Turns out that it did contain nuts, which my son is allergic to. My son had a major allergic reaction, threw up, and we had to call Poison Control & his doctor, and sit in the parking lot of the Fair Oaks Hospital until 11:00 PM per his doctor's advise in case his condition worsened. Then, we had to have a teleconference with his doctor the next day to make sure he was doing well. He is scheduled to visit his allergist. Thank God, he survived this horrific event! What was the response from Scoops2U owner & manager? "Thanks for letting us know because you found our COMPANY'S BLIND SPOT!" REALLY? My son could have died from this and you call it your company's blind spot? These people are DANGEROUS and should be investigated.

Scoops 2 U came to my work building for an event. They are a catering ice cream company so they do not have a store. The staff was friendly and fun and the ice cream for great. They had 6 flavors for us to choose from and many toppings for us to add on. I don't know their pricing but if your work ever has a social gathering I would recommend hiring Scoops 2 U. Mint chocolate and cookies n cream were my favorite flavors.

A perfect example of seizing an opportunity in the market and timing it just right, Scoops2U has hit DC in the swell of Summer, when a nice bit of cooling ice cream is already at the forefront of everyone's mind. The premise behind this truck is relatively simple (although leave it to future DC residents to somehow complicate it in their head and cause a backed up line), as of today there are 3 ice cream flavors and 3 kinds of cookie, and all you have to do is decide which one of each you want. I'm guessing these will be rotating flavors and they'll probably throw in some seasonal things, but for now they're sticking with the basics. To make things even more special today, they were handing out free "chipwiches", as they call them, to anyone who stopped by and was willing to give them a try. I was shocked how many people completely ignored the offer, especially considering how cute and friendly the girls working the window were (I swear I thought one of them was Tara from afar). To be fair, I'm rating this based on their normal pricing structure once they're fully charging, which is $4 per chipwich, because free ice cream on a 90 degree day would almost always be 5 stars. I went with the chocolate brownie as my cookie and the mint chocolate chip for the ice cream. I actually loved the ice cream part, it was really nice and thick, so as not to easily melt away under the strenuous heat, and they also use the normal mint, not that fake green stuff (if you need food coloring to tell what you're eating, you're doing it wrong). The brownie pieces were actually perfect for holding the ice cream together too, a perfect harmony between soft on the inside and firm on the outside. I'm hoping this was just the sample size though, since I wound up finishing it in about 3 or 4 bites, but if it's just a bit larger at $4 I think it's a real deal (compare it to Sandra's Sweetbites Mobile $3 cupcakes, my current favorite sweet treat). I saw people walking around with FrozenYo cups who probably paid double that and just smirked with my secret knowledge. I have a feeling this truck will become a regular addiction of mine this summer, especially once they start expanding the flavor portfolio. Oh, and just a side note: apparently this is actually an ice cream catering business based out of Springfield, but the truck is most definitely doing business in DC (I caught it at Farragut Square).

I was sad to see that they don't offer 'housemade' pastries anymore, as I remember seeing in their past photos; their menu for their offerings was clearly updated. In addition, the drinks that we ordered were just not good at all: +the Toasted Marshmallow Latte - prepared with 2 shots of espresso, choice of milk, and a housemade toasted marshmallow syrup; this tasted like watered down coffee with no 'toasted marshmallow' taste; coffee could have been prepared strong, and we did ask for 'extra hot', but received it regular temperature +Witch's Potion - an apple cider with chai, topped with a dash of cinnamon; probably one of the worst ciders we've had - wasn't really sure the mixture with the chai, but this just seemed like it was an improperly steeped tea that did not have any flavor The staff were friendly, and there seemed to be local patrons who come here on a regular basis. The blue mobile truck is very cute, and they had some seating available with nice fall decor. I'm glad I was able to check this place out, but no dice, Bear and Swan. +watered down lattes +avoid the ciders +friendly service +updated schedule on their social media

You can easily stop by if you're in the area. Their schedule changes so check their social media beforehand. The couple was friendly and kind. I ordered the cherry vanilla latte that I enjoyed. It was tasty and pretty. Also tried the chocolate croissant. It looks like they have fall drinks so I will be trying pumpkin next time. They have a small seating area where you could have your coffee and pastry with a friend.

It's located in a strip shopping center, so parking is super easy and accessible, and the restaurant itself is very easy to find. Walking in, the space is extremely clean, well-lit, and nicely decorated. Now let's talk about the real highlight: the variety. They have dinner plates, bowl options, and à la carte items. I went with one of my favorites, the lechon. They were out of the roasted version, but the staff recommended the fried pork instead, and it did not disappoint. I came in around 7:30, and they close at 8, so I was trying to be mindful and not hold them up. But the woman at the counter was incredibly kind and told me not to rush at all--"you're already inside, take your time." That level of hospitality really stood out. She even took the time to walk me through the menu, which I appreciated, even though I'm already familiar with Filipino food. The food itself? Amazing. The lechon was perfectly crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The portion size was generous, and it came with two Lumpia that were hot, fresh, and delicious. It also included a soda, which made it feel like a complete, satisfying meal. Overall, this place is a 10/10. Great food, great portions, and even better customer service. I'd highly recommend stopping by.

The women working here were kind and helpful. You order at the counter in the back, and they will bring your food to your table. Menu options abound, but the only menu was the display screen above and in back of the counter. Unfortunately, the display screen is hard to see and there are no descriptions with the pictures/items. Mang Eton really needs to provide some printed menus. While the online menu does contain descriptions, the online descriptions don't necessarily match what is available. Anyways.... For a starter, we ordered the siomai. These were plump and tasty. We wish they would give more of the excellent dipping sauce than the tiny thimble of sauce that they do give you. Note: the combo meals also include a couple pieces of siomai. I ordered the Combo #1, which came with a piece of fried chicken, 2 lumpia, shrimp chips, rice and pancit. The lumpia had an excellent flavor. The fried chicken and pancit were okay. JP ordered the Combo #3. The only difference between the Combo #1 and Combo #3 is that the Combo $3 comes with fish instead of chicken. It also comes with a skewer of meat (pork?), which was good. We were the only non-Filipino customers. I plan on coming back to try the halo-halo dessert and to order some more yummy siomai.

Let me start with the wonderful service of the workers. She was so kind and helpful. Now the food.. omg. I'm front North Carolina so I know southern food. The catfish was well seasoned and even though she didn't have tartar sauce, which is a staple for me with catfish, I didn't need it! I also got the green beans and Mac. Both were also amazing. I finished it off with her banana pudding cake which was a different take on banana pudding but still delicious. If you see this truck out don't hesitate to get it asap! How can I forget the price point, too. $15 for a plate that's packed to the max.

Now, while the servers with Staceys Superior Soul Food were incredibly kind and accommodating, it doesn't change the fact that the food was a bit soulless on arrival. The ideal dish from a soul food menu is prepared with various spices. This not just goes well with the meat dishes but also adds on to the overall taste and aroma of the food. My expectations are always higher when I see restaurants with "Superior" Soul Food in their title because of the history of the term "soul food" refers to the traditional food prepared by black people living in the southern part of the U.S. By no means do I believe you have to be black or from the south to prepare excellent soul food, but I would not recommend ordering "fresh" crabs or seafood from a dry climate desert state such as New Mexico; order Mexican food! But that's beside the point. Pros: The food came out hot & fresh, and the baked macaroni & cheese was creamy. Cons: Everything lacked flavor (seasoning) fried chicken, green beans, and especially the baked macaroni & cheese. The chicken wings are just a bit tiny with little meat to the bone. Everything tasted quite bland, but I want to give this business another opportunity because the family was extremely nice and it could have just been a bad day due to someone accidentally leaving all of the seasoning(s) at home. I'm rooting for this business because I want the demand for soul food to grow in NOVA, and this business has an opportunity to capture the market share. At this point, I can not personally recommend this food truck to anyone that has truly experienced the taste of SOUL FOOD! Looking forward to updating my review upon next visit.

This food truck came to our building today. They were supposed to be here at 4 p.m. and 4 p.m…read more came and went. I kept checking by looking out the window to see if they arrived. Finally building management sent out a message saying the truck would be here at 5:15 p.m. When food trucks come here, we are given a link where we can order our food in advance and it will be ready at the time you want. We never partook of this option because we knew things could go wrong. Today, especially, we were really glad! Once the truck arrived, the man who worked there, came out to apologize saying he had to replace some equipment which caused them to be late. Also, although he didn't mention it, I think he probably got caught in rush hour traffic as they are Woodbridge based. He then told me they would be ready to take orders in 20 minutes. So...we waited as did a young woman who had placed an advance order only to be told it was cancelled. Thus, she had to place her order again and at least she made sure she wasn't charged twice for her food. We ordered 2 brisket sandwiches. These sandwiches are topped with cole slaw. That's something we didn't want as we think it can interfere with the brisket flavoring. We asked if they could put it on the side and they said "yes". We also ordered one side of mac & cheese plus one side of beans. All of this came to $50---yikes! The sandwiches came out in those to-go containers which are basically thin cardboard vessels with no covers (see my photo). The beans and the mac & cheese were very small portions and were put into small food containers with no lids. We're glad we brought some plastic bags to bring the food upstairs! Having to do so was no fun at all. As for the food --- The sandwiches were small with not much brisket in them. There was a side of bbq sauce which we used. The sauce was on the tangy side. While the brisket was moist, there wasn't much flavor. It would have benefitted greatly if a rub was used. The cole slaw was decent---no complaints there. The mac & cheese was luke warm but it was the way we like mac & cheese which is simply made---no fancy cheeses or any other additions. We just wish it was hotter. The beans were similar to Boston Baked beans but without the undercurrent of sweetness found in the Boston ones. They were okay---nothing to write home about. Yelp is prodding me to mention "ambiance". Well...it's a food truck that's nicely decorated. If they came back to our building, we don't plan to order again, in large part due to the pricing. Each little side we got cost $8 each!
