This review is long overdue. In my opinion, there's no one more talented in LA or Baltimore/DC for cut and color than May. (Trust me, I've tried many of them). May has been my stylist for 16 years. We've spent a lot of time together, lol, and now she is my bestie! She is consistent, super attentive, warm, reliable and professional. After relocating to the East Coast, no one there was able to replicate the highlights and cuts she does for me, and often other stylists are amazed, wondering how perfectly effortless and natural my hair looks months after May's done her magic on my hair. Sharon is the best! I've jumped from salon to salon around sgv and I'm so glad to have finally found Sharon. I actually found this place via yelp so thank you yelpers for leading me here. Haircuts are 40 dollars not including tip. To the guys out there with short hair: I've tried both more expensive places and cheaper places and for literally my whole life didn't notice a big difference between the two so I mainly just went for the cheap haircuts. While 40 dollars in sgv is a little on the higher side, let me tell you it is 100% worth it. While a lot of other places sort of rush you in and out, at scissors you're really getting the full service. You get a full shampoo/conditioning BEFORE the haircut, your haircut, then a second rinse. Then she'll do a final look over to catch any strays and then blow dry/styling to whatever style you want. This is not only great because you can actually go somewhere afterward without having loose hairs all over the place but I can't tell you how many times I've come home after a haircut and showered and there's stray long hairs or the haircut doesn't look how it did when still at the salon. The most important part though is the haircut itself, and Sharon is simply the best. I know this is going to sound cheesy but after starting getting my haircut at Sharon good things happened in my life. Obviously a haircut isn't going to change anyone's life, but I truly believe that the extra confidence I had knowing that I looked my best played a large role in the outcomes of my experiences. And finally, not only will you get an amazing haircut but Sharon is awesome! Very friendly and personable, the whole experience is very enjoyable and I look forward to my haircuts. I called the same day to see if I was able to get a trim and they were able to take me. Right away I was welcomed in by May and she sat me down and asked what I wanted. I asked for minimal layering in the back but more in the front. She got to washing my hair and it was a nice experience. Through out the whole process, May was very educational on how I should wash my hair, dry my hair, style, etc. I really appreciate her educating me. And I have very straight hair, no volume at all. And I told him to cut it shorter to give me more volume. And he said great, cause when I cut only couple inch , it won't make difference. UPDATE (August 2): After posting my review on Sunday morning, the owner of the hair salon reached out to me in the evening. She not only publicly encouraged me to contact the salon to address my dissatisfaction with the haircut on Saturday, she also sent me a private message to try to further understand the situation. She subsequently arranged a senior hair stylist, May, to recut my hair. When I communicated with May on Monday, she made time to rework my hair the same day, even though it was her day off. May asked me to explain my dissatisfaction with the cut I had from the other hair stylist. She then inquired about the style I had wanted. She looked at the photos and said that the style was suitable for my hair type. Thereafter, she washed my hair before she began working on it. Being on the cautious side, she tried out one length first to see if I was okay with it or wanted it shorter. The length was perfect. When she finished cutting my hair, she washed it again. She then asked me to blow dry my hair, so that I would know how to style it on my own. May also recommended a hair dye that she thinks would make the hairstyle look cooler. This rework was free of charge. And, the next morning, May followed up with a text message to ask if I had any problems styling my hair. She repeated her invitation for me to look for her whenever I need help with or had questions about maintaining the new hairstyle. Since I was trying a new hairstyle and new hair salon, the owner's response to my first review made a big difference. It's nice when business owners care about customers and their reviews. ----------- ORIGINAL (31 July): Reviews of this place are overrated. The hair stylist didn't spend as much time discussing how to cut my hair as I had anticipated from reading the reviews. She picked up a few things that I said and started cutting away. She probably spent less than 20 minutes cutting my hair and about 20 minutes telling me that I had used the wrong term to describe the style I had wanted when I showed her photos of possible hairstyles. Basically, she said that the styles are for White people's (soft) hair and not Asian (coarse) hair. She tried to convince me that curls would give my hair more body, so I agreed for her use the hot iron to put waves into my hair. Waves are clearly not suitable for me. Also, the stylist didn't seem to know what a pixie cut is. When I mentioned it, she thought I was referring to hair color. Lastly, she didn't even offer to clean off the hair bits on my face when she announced that she was done with my haircut. I paid and tipped her as expected, but I wouldn't return to this place. I came in to get a haircut along with curtain bangs and I'm very happy with the way that it turned out! I didn't get a chance to ask for names but the main stylist was very accommodating and knew exactly what I wanted. It's been a while since I've gotten a haircut so she kept asking me if the length was okay and she told me to let her know if I wanted more to be cut off. WHAT A LIFESAVER! I was desperate for a pixie that would work with my cheeks and round, asian face. I had already been to two other salons and both hair stylists were very conservative and hesitant to cut my long hair off. Called at 5:45 pm to see if someone could still see me, I walked in, explained what I wanted and the amazing lady who took care of me (I think it was Mai) told me that she'd do a double cut and knew exactly what I was trying to do. Made an appointment today with May for my daughter's haircut and sooooo glad we decided to come here. May is super nice and attentive and asked my daughter how she liked her hair and respected her opinion showing she truly cares even though she's only 6. I wasn't planning on getting a haircut myself today, as my regular stylist is in OC, but seeing how great a stylist May is, I decided to go for it and I'm beyond pleased. Great energy at Scissors The Salon! It looks like they recently remodeled--it is nice and bright with all the lighting fixtures. I liked that for $45, I got the full salon experience. They dressed me in a protective smock first, then a cape and took me to get my hair washed. Forgot to tip the man--sorry! As he cleaned and massaged my scalp, he sang along to the Chinese pop music. Awesome! Sharon was my stylist and she is wonderful. She is pleasant and skilled with her shears. I love my haircut and will definitely come back to her. You can tell she loves her job. The only reason I didn't give Scissors five stars is because the hair washing station was a bit grimy and the towels didn't smell too fresh, but I have a hyper-sensitive sense of smell. I found out she also cuts wigs and I was thrilled because I've been looking for someone trusty to cut my wigs for me. Judging from all the good reviews, this place was the real deal. I got there and she braided one of my short wigs into a beautiful crown braid. I felt like a little princess. She helped thin out my longer wig and also made another beautiful braid.
