Scissors and Scotch is a great idea for a business (drinks while you get your hair cut? Yes please!) Now they are a barber shop vs. a salon, so they cater more toward a male clientele, but my husband has always had great cuts there. I love it because he is not a huge drinker, so I can go into the bar area and wait for him while he is in the chair (and have his free drink while I wait!) The ambiance is definitely upscale and leaning into the "masculine" aesthetic, both in the salon side and in the bar. It's all woods and leathers, with dark concrete floors. They offer a subscription service, but you don't have to have that if you want to just come in for a singular cut, and a free drink (cocktail, beer, coffee) is included even if you come in for a single barber visit vs. having a subscription. I definitely recommend Scissors and Scotch as a wife who can sit on the bar wide and enjoy a beer/read a book, while my husband is getting a great cut! read more

First visit, wife bought a gift card for Father's Day. Keira cut my hair and she was awesome. Very personable and she made the experience great. The guy running the bar was knowledgeable about pricing and made two really good drinks. They have a number of prices if you want to go all the time. Had my teenage son go in to clean up his hair as it was getting long. He told S&S he didn't want much off the top and to clean up the back so its not as long. The hairstylist decided to ignore what he asked for and give him a haircut so short that it couldn't even be styled. The hair stytlist had to of had a lazy eye because they couldn't cut something straight if their life depended on it. His bangs were butchered and crooked the rest was buzz cut except his rear cowlick that they left long so it was sticking straight up. He had a ton of hair to work with and they ruined it. His hair might grow back by the end of the school year. I called Scissors and scotch and the manager never called back. So if you need your head shaved or a cut so short you can enlist in the army the next day this is your place. If you want a competent hairstylist I'd go to Great Clips or Sports clips and save yourself some money. read more

I never write reviews for a place I haven't been, except in this very special case because i'm so frequently inundated with complaints about other salons after the husband of mine had to leave his beloved Scissors and Scotch when we moved from Nebraska. The husband and I have differing opinions as to what is required to make a salon top quality, and let's just say he's the tougher critic. Since moving from Nebraska he's had a difficult time finding a place that offers an experience to match the expectations set by Scissors & Scotch. I hear about it so often because every new place he tries here in Washington ultimately gets compared to S&S and let's just say a worthy match has yet to be found. The husband is pretty difficult to impress in general and he's extra picky about his hair. He loved the consistency of how his hair looked and the ease of getting appointments with the same stylist to facilitate this consistency. Especially after dealing with sky high prices in Washington state he frequently raves about how great the experience was here and at such a reasonable cost for a hair cut. His appointments included a shampoo, cut, style, scalp massage, hot towel and the real winner was the free drink from their well stocked bar. He always came home with a great cut, smelling lovely, and in a much better mood then when he left. We both miss this place.. the husband misses his great hair cuts while I miss sending a cranky husband off to get his hair done and receiving a much happier husband home smelling of freshly shampooed furs. read more

I've been here before and found the haircut mediocre but the drink was nice. My regular barber is out of town for 4 weeks so thought I'd go back to S&S. I went to the website to set a date and select a stylist and what do I find? A very complicated procedure. It demanded to know my log in name and password. I don't recall and don't think I ever had one. Wants me to create a new one. For one haircut? I tried but it did not like my password. ENOUGH ALREADY. I picked up the phone and called a place across the street from S&S and got right in. Guys, do not waste your time with businesses that demand you "log in" and then make it very difficult to do so. Always heard good things about this place and decided to try it as I am looking to change my hairstyle. Went in yesterday at 1:30 for a 1:45 appointment, stylist walked up while I was getting a coffee (ended up not drinking it at all). I had enough hair to do a side part style but the stylist could not tell left from right. Yes, she showed me a picture found on Google by searching "men side part" and I said sure let's do that. She then took a chunk of my hair from the side where I wanted my hair to go. I expressed my concern about how short it is and I don't know if we can style it. She then said yah we can style it and it will look good I promise. She didn't stop but kept shortening the hair that was already too short for my style. She asked me what I thought I said I think it is too short, but maybe you can trim it to make it cook natural and smooth. She went on cutting that same area of hair. I finally had to say let's see how styling is gonna work on the hair. She put on pomade and is obviously too short for any kind of styling we were intending to do. This time she said ohh you have had long hair for a long time you can't just expect your hair to go anywhere you want. Also, she tried to pull it off by saying her boyfriend had long hair for a long time bla bla bla... Basically trying to get off the hook by saying she didn't do anything wrong, if anything, it is just I need to get used to my new hair. I asked to pull up the picture on her phone again, it seems she confused the left and right of the picture to my left and right. She then asked me how I feel, I said I don't feel comfortable with this new hairstyle. She then said she would walk me out to the front. As I was about to pay she loudly announce to the whole room of customers then I didn't like the hair and that I should get the service for free. I insisted on paying for the haircut and tipping her $20 because I don't want to take advantage of people and business. 30 minutes after I get home, I already booked another stylist in another place to see if we can fix the style, aka damage control. If the damage is too large, I am already prepared to wear a beanie till my hair grows out. It might work out the best since it is getting chilly outside. I have now gone here multiple times and can say for certain I have found my stylist. I have had issues in the past with getting exactly what I want in a hair cut. I can't recommend Kelsi enough here, she puts care and attentiveness and makes sure that it's spot on. The high fade with a 0 and hard etch for the top. The only why I gave this place 4 stars and not 5 is the price. I understand that paying for good service can cost, but after tip on just a cut and wash, I'm spending about $40 a hair cut....and making it stretch to 5 weeks in between. I believe I found the right place. After a discussion about my last horrible haircut, a plan was established and the task was done to my satisfaction. Alicia did a fantastic job but it was near close and some of the other staff was drinking and there was a girl who was off work that clearly was drunk and causing a scene with her boyfriend, and had overheard that one of the other workers smacked him with a towel. This place seriously takes an otherwise boring to do list item into something that you plan your weekend around. Every haircut comes with a cocktail, make it fancy or standard! Their old fashioned is as good as it comes. All of their staff is fantastic especially Brittany. I left for 3 years and came back. She remembered me and everything else. After a long period of battling with health issues and related setbacks, I booked an appointment at Scissors & Scotch to do something for myself, to improve my look, and celebrate getting past the toughest times. I bought the 25 year package, and the service blew away my expectations. I booked my appointment with Randi, as I saw her mentioned by name in another Yelp review, and she was fantastic. She made me look great, feel great, and has a fantastic sense of how much conversation to make, and when to make it (I've had countless haircuts and massages ruined by practitioners who just would not stop talking--not Randi, she is excellent). After the haircut and related services, I walked into the bar/lounge and had my complimentary drink. I ordered an Old Fashioned, and it was among the best I've ever had. The second was even better (no worries; I stopped after two). The drinks capped off a perfect experience. I can't recommend Scissors & Scotch too highly. read more

My first experience was good, or so I thought. About a week after my haircut, I noticed my hair line in the back was prob an inch higher than it should be. This area was growing back as a big area of gross neck hair instead of normal hair, if this makes sense. I could either shave it every couple days or struggle through a month of letting it fill in with the rest of my hair. At this point, I was going to be a one and done at S&S. Fast forward a couple months to a scotch tasting I was at downtown--I met Erica who is a manager at Scissors and Scotch for the first time. I had mentioned a couple newer places in Countryside that I've really liked. Somehow this turned into talk of my crummy haircut---she then told me what she did for a living and she was very committed to make things right. In addition to our convo, she sent a couple great emails. After all of her effort and the carrot she dangled to get me to try it again, I'd have to be ridiculously stubborn to decline. I now have a new haircut person--she is awesome. She's a true professional who takes pride in her craft. Instead of me struggling to find the time for haircut, it's a nice break during the day & I actually look forward to it. She is also super upbeat, nice and funny. For selfish reasons, I won't mention her name--she's busy enough as it is. Erica is on the bar side. She is very talented & it's very easy to see why she is helping at some of the new S&S locations in other cities. Perhaps I have become a scotch snob as I'm about a year into my new hobby of tasting whiskey, bourbon & scotch. I would have expected a little more selection for a place with Scotch in its name. This was my first experience going to a barber shop that was higher class. It was a great time with a somewhat reasonable price for the service I received. You get a free drink at every visit and the bartender was very nice. My barber wasn't too talkative which I like, but she did keep me company and filled me in on what was going on throughout my visit. This place has so many positives, however they have changed a LOT since they first opened. They offered a lot of perks for joining their membership and they truly made you feel special. Unfortunately they have lost that as they have grown and they continue to take away the benefits of membership. They have started to nickel and dime their members for drinks, overcharge frequently, and charge extra for certain hair stylists even though you paid a flat rate upfront for a year. The experience is what sets this place apart from the other ordinary haircut joints. I had been going to those for years where getting a haircut was like rolling the dice. You never know what you might get. All services include a drink which is typically after your cut. I have been offered a beverage beforehand when I arrive early. I typically opt for the 10-Year which is the basic cut here. It includes the drink as I mentioned, steamed towel on face, razor neck shave, shampoo, and style. This service is 30 minutes. They do offer memberships which reduces the price per visit. I also enjoy scheduling my appointments on the app which is extremely convenient. read more
