I've always had a great experience here. Kiet is my go-to guy, and he always knows exactly what I want. He is the only one I trusted to give me my pre-wedding haircut. read more

Scissors & Scotch is a great place if you want to indulge a bit. I didn't quite understand if part of your experience included a drink or not because, well, nobody told me anything about it. All the same, the small bar and board games are a nice touch. I'd come here for drinks even if I didn't have a hair cut scheduled. Still, I scheduled a fairly extensive The Twenty-Five Year and Facial Hair Trim packages and had a drink while I waited to be called. I would have liked more information on the membership, etc. but again, nobody told me anything. Once I got to the back, I was seen by Hannah, who truly couldn't have been better. She was very nice, patient, and walked me through the experience (I certainly had not had wax on my hands before). I discussed with Hannah what I was hoping to have done and she helped me through it and I left with the best hair cut I've had in a very long time. I will be back and I will request Hannah. Overall, it's worth the indulgence. read more

Scissors & Scotch - Barbers Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

See all

I love this place - I love had two different people I've worked with over the last few years - the first one left but she was amazing and was worried I wasn't gonna find anyone as good but then I got Hannah who has been my person for 2 years now. She's extremely popular so I try to book far in advance but the online scheduling is so easy. She's great at remembering all my stories from last time we chatted. I do appreciate w membership that I have free unlimited upkeeps until my next main haircut (I do the 5 week plan). It seems to work out given the free light cuts in between to keep my hair in shape. I love that you get a free drink after and the folks that work the bar are so nice. It feels like a sports bar inside with the tvs going - great vibe. read more

I don't know if I'll ever let anyone else touch my hair after finding Benny here. She is an artist and a brilliant conversationalist. I bought a monthly membership because of her service and its the highlight of my month. read more

So I went to this place a day before I had my first day of school right and I asked this lady to give me a low taper fade and the first thing she did was get the largest razor she could and buzz both sides of my head and the back, she didn't even bother to comb my hair first, after that my hair looked so fucked up I felt like crying, it's been over a month now and my hair has grown back but with 5 bald spots because of her unprofessional bullshit, obviously my hair will regrow but only time will tell. I left 0 tip this place was so ass never get a haircut here unless you want 5 bald spots and an unprofessional cutting your hair. 0 stars fuck this stupid place. read more

Kiet is the BEST barber in town, hands down! His skills, expertise, knowledge, & ability to sculpt a beard is second to none... I have a home in TX & VA, & will only trust Kiet with my beard, even if it means flying to VA once every 2-3 weeks. For the gentlemen w beards, our beard is our identity & Kiet will always deliver the perfectly sculpted beard!! read more

Marcos is a great barber. Am trying to give this place a chance. They no longer serve scotch. The bathroom is out of service. And I've waited 25 min past my appointment time w no one checking on me. Seems to be fading fast read more

I've given this place four tries with a different barber each time hoping for a good cut since I live next door and I've never once walked out happy. A medium fade with a scissor cut on top and a hard part is a simple order and every time I somehow end up with a high fade and barely any hair left on top and the barber asking how a hard part should look. I'll give it they're friendly hence the second star but can't recommend them for a haircut. read more

Benny was great! I went in for the usual ten year but ended up having a very different experience - she was knowledgeable, attentive and engaging. She provided advice on upkeep and things to do that will help with better growth. Would highly recommend read more

Is it a bar that cuts hair or a barber that has a liquor license? Who knows?! The business model seems to be "neighborhood hangout where guys can drink and get their hair cut." I once ordered a martini but honestly sitting a bar by oneself drinking in a hair salon is depressing so I got mine to go and drank it at home (I'm not even sure this is legal). It was OK but not great. The problem with this place is the consistency of stylist skill and overall service. I've seen three stylists here. One of them was quite good but the other two were just awful. Like so awful I later went to Hair Cuttery to get the haircut fixed (true story!) Considering the fact that I paid Scissors and Scotch $90 for just the haircut and tip...not OK. Today I went in for an appointment and my stylist took a walk-in during my appointment time (I was there exactly at the appointment time and had been waiting). No acknowledgement from the stylist. No greeting. No "hey, this guy has an emergency, do you mind if I take him real quick?" Nothing. And when I asked the receptionist why she was cutting some other dude's hair, the receptionist stared at me like I was an idiot and sighed and said "he came in for a clean up so we're doing this now" as if this sort of thing happens all the time. I mean, maybe it does? You can join their "membership" and pay like $700 for a year and then I guess that allows you to bump other people? I don't know. Anyway, 2 stars because I got a couple of good haircuts there and apparently you can buy First Class status and bump other people from their appointment which is pretty cool...unless you're the coach-class flier getting bumped. Since I'm unwilling to pay to get an appointment that I booked a week ago, I'm done with this place. read more

Highly recommend Hannah! She is very comfortable cutting and always provides great service. They have music, games, and cards to play out in the bar area while you wait. They welcome you to have your drink before or after your appointment. Hannah is always on time, never have sat in waiting area past my appointment time. Give them a call and get an appointment scheduled! read more

Bad experience. Made an appointment but the stylist was running late so they put me with another person. When they came and got me, the person checking me in apologized to the stylist because I chose the 25-year service, almost like they knew they would be annoyed. This is the most expensive, but longest service. Hearing her apologize to him for "burdening" him with this service made me feel very uncomfortable. I wasn't able to enjoy it at all because all I could think about was how they didn't want to do it. If stylists don't want to do this service, then don't offer it, pretty simple. I booked and paid for the most expensive service, and was uncomfortable the whole time because of their reaction of having to do their job. I won't be returning, and I would definitely not recommend anyone book one of the nicer services. It's clear they are annoyed when someone books that. read more

Not a bad outfit here and a good idea, Arlington needs more men's spots like this, but what's often good in concept fails in practice. I walked in and it was like I walked into just another bar. It just seemed weird, more like a bar with a barber shop than a barber shop with a bar? Anyway my hair was jacked up from the rain and there was some gel in it, so it was kind of wild and sticky. I told my barber that it was going to be rough and he might need to spray it down, but he said it was fine. He proceeded to give me one of the most uneven, roughest, choppiest, hair-pulliest cuts I've had. Not the worst by any means, but it just seemed rushed and sloppy. These places often come down to who you get, but I don't have time to interview every barber in Ballston, I just assume they know the basics. This place missed the mark, and it's too bad. The shampoo and hot towel were a nice touch though. Either way on to the next spot. read more

I got the Ten Year haircut here for free as part of their training program before the hard opening and it was amazing! As soon as I walked in they checked me in and gave me a free mini bottle of water to drink while I waited. Danielle cut my hair and she was very friendly and does a great job. The shop is definitely set up for comfort - I almost fell asleep during the shampooing before the haircut and during the hot facial towel after the haircut. Everyone was beyond nice and when I had a few questions about their memberships they gladly answered them. Unfortunately the bar wasn't open yet so I didn't get to try a drink so I'll definitely need to come back and do that. It's definitely on the pricier side but it was nice to be pampered and relaxed and will be even nicer to finish the haircut off with a drink in the future. read more

Benny was great, we collaborated and figured out the best haircut for me. We had a nice conversation and she even massaged my head at the end of the cut! Definitely come here if you want a quality experience. read more

The person who usually cuts my hair is great. However I will say their staff at the front desk is a bit incompetent. I called so say I would be 10 minutes late as I wanted to respect the barber and her time. Then I get a call two minutes later and the receptionist gets an attitude with me and says I'm late for my appointment. I then reminded the gentleman that I had just called and told them I would be a little late, and he still had an attitude (this is the same person I had talked to 2 minutes prior)... I cancelled my appointment and went to another barber shop and got an equally great cut for 35 dollars less than what I would have spent at Scissors and Scotch. You can't be over priced and incompetent and rude all at the same time. This person cost this business 75 dollars in two minutes... just figured I would share this. read more

Had to request my credit card company to get my money back. I've waited until things were final to post. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I just couldn't justify the amount of money spent for the lack of services rendered. I sent my fiance for a day of pampering for his birthday as a surprise. I called early, made an appointment, and set him up with the 25 year and the really nice beard trim. He was excited once he realized what he was there for, but he didn't know what services were included. If you've read the services, you'll see what is included. When I asked how it went he said it was fine but he thought it was a bit pricey for a haircut and a glass of scotch. Unfortunately, when i pressed about the services I found out that none of the services were done. No shampoo, no conditioning, no massage, no hot towel, nothing. They spritzed his hair with water and trimmed his beard. I spoke to the manager who didn't question a thing and told me she'd give me a refund. I was refunded the 20% tip. That's when I went to my credit card company. I offered to pay for a basic haircut... about $30-50 plus a basic beard trim. I tried to work things out with them and be fair, but I felt like bc I was the one who booked it and he had no idea what to expect that they took advantage of us and got the money without providing the services. Since we're new to the area from SoCal, we were hoping to find new places... sadly, this will not be one of them. Will not be returning. read more

My barber, Benny (Persia), gave me the absolute best haircut I've ever had. I highly recommend her! Chill atmosphere, cool concept. I will be back! read more

Benny was fantastic! Everything was perfect. Great haircut and shampoo, very kind person as well.

I know they have a few locations but I frequent the Ballston location and I've never had a bad experience. Most recent cut was by Taylre. She was extremely professional and took the time before we started to chat about the style I was looking for. Cut was efficient and clean, it's not often I can get out after a haircut and not feel the hairs down my back/neck but I was able to go about my day without noticing. As ever, the cocktail afterwards (An Old fashioned) was well made and is such an enjoyable party of the whole experience. Highly recommend a visit here, I tried a few barbers since moving to the area and this is the only one I'll be using going forward. read more

They have a very nice selection of scotches at a very reasonable price. I received the 15 year deal with a shave instead of a haircut. The straight edge shave was poor. The razor was as dull as my razor at home that I had used for a month. Had to bite my tongue from screaming. The person missed between my lip and nose, not to mention the rest of my face was not as good if done at home. Did not mention to Taylor as she had a blade too close to my throat. I was a guest and it was no skin off my nose but just thought management must know. My experience was on May 23rd @ high noon with (2) buddies. Cheers read more
