We went in with my Great Grandson who is almost 17 months old in for his first little boy haircut. He was born with a full head of hair and his hair was past his shoulders and in his eyes. We had to wait a short time for our turn , and my Great Grandson had a great time playing in the enclosed toy area. His haircut from the beginning to the end took 10 minutes. And Susan was amazing. The babies Mom wanted him to have a " fade haircut " . Susan was a little skeptical at first but was willing to give it a try. She showed him the electric razor and told him that it tickles, and asked him if she could tickle his head with it. She was very quick using the electric razor and finished up with comb and scissors. She then put a bit of product in his hair to spike up the front. She never forced him and was very cheerful the whole time. Best of all his haircut looks amazing ! No more people asking us how old is she ? Afterwards she took a photo of him, attached it to a my first haircut certificate and attached a small bag of his long hair. His Mom loved how his hairstyle came out and said she would definitely be back when he needs his his next haircut. I'm so happy that I saw an advertisement for this salon. read more

Always a great experience, when we visit Scissor Kids. We had Jacob's first haircut here, and we were very pleased with the caring staff. The car chairs are a great way to put the child in a good mood. The bubbles keep them occupied, as well as the tv. They have a enclosed play area so that the kids can't run off. This is great for the siblings that are waiting their turn in the chair. We have tried to other places, but after today's visit...we won't be going anywhere else! read more

I went here twice with my little one before deciding the plastic cars that don't even work aren't worth it. I'd rather go someplace where the stylists actually interact with the children and have friendly personalities. We had a different stylist each time and it was the same scenario: rushed to sit, followed by a hurried cut with no interaction with the child, no attempt to make them feel comfortable, or soothe if they're upset. Took everything I had to not pluck up my child and leave mid-cut this last time as big tears rolled down his cheeks. He didn't have an issue getting his haircut before now... but I doubt he'll be a fan from now on. So if anyone has any suggestions for a stylist/place that is actually kid friendly -- aka friendly TO kids not just hiding behind stickers and broken chairs and the word "Kids" in the name -- we're currently on the hunt! read more

Awesome experience! Scissor kids accepts appointments, which is awesome because it means you aren't waiting as long. The car shaped seats were a game-changer for our 14-month old's first haircut. He loves cars, and barely even noticed that the stylist was cutting his hair. Our stylist was friendly and took a photo and lock of his hair, and presented him with a certiclficate of achievement for his first haircut with the photo and lock of hair in a little envelope. They also have a little play 'pit' which has sides that are about 3.5 ft high, full of toys. If you have multiple children getting haircuts, one can play in the pit while the other gets a haircut. I was recommended to go here for my son's first haircut....They did take us ear and I liked that but when they were cutting his hair they were pulling the clippers and holding his hair as if they were ready to pull it out.. he was very hairy even with the cap on and once I brought him home I noticed how choppy his hair was and how uneven the cut was he was in a rush to leave. In mid hair cut they switched hair dressers on us and that's was very unprofessional and the women at the front desk had an attitude when I mentioned it was his 1st hair cut and rudely stomped to the hair dressed to let her now. Pulling at my sons hair while clipping it was so rude and I will not be returning my Buisness is better suited somewhere else!!!! I wish I could give zero stars. I sent my four year old in with her father to get a haircut. Before you blame dad, I did FaceTime with the stylist to articulate that I wanted below shoulder length hair cut and bangs cut slightly above the eyebrows angled to frame her face. The bangs are horrendous to say the least. They are completely crooked and there is legitimately about a quarter inch "layer" above the lower layer. They are about an inch long on one end and longer in the other end - I have NEVER seen such a hack job haircut in my life. Just because these are kids doesn't mean you can allow stylist to get away with this! I am appalled and will be telling everyone to steer clear of this place! read more

This is a great place. Never had a bad haircut and never had to wait more than a few minutes to get him in. The ladies who cut the hair there have always been nice to my son and I. They have a small walled area in the waiting filled with toys if you do have to wait. The toddler seats are shaped like cars and are fun and comfortable to sit in. Normally they have cartoons running to keep the kids distracted not to mention bubbles and stickers. Would highly recommend this place. read more

We brought our daughter here for her first haircut. The stylist was very gentle and my daughter was happy with her experience. For first time hair cuts, they take your child's picture and a clipping of her/his hair and put it on a certificate. It's a pretty nice touch. We were very happy with the results of the cut as well. The facility was clean, and they have an inescapable little play area where you can drop a sibling while you tend to your child getting clipped or just leave them while you pay the bill. It was really busy on a Saturday afternoon, so I suggest you call to schedule an appointment. The only downside was the price, slightly more than some of the other kid specific salons we looked at. read more

I went to Scissor kids for my grandson's haircut. I heard a stylist (who had just cut another child's hair) say she was NOT VACCINATED against covid and did not intend to get vaccinated. I spoke to the owner, who said she would not require her employees to get vaccinated. We won't be going back, but I just wanted to warn other patrons. read more

I brought my 4 year old in for her first haircut to make it special for her. Drove all the way from Enfield. She wouldn't sit in the car shaped seat and proceeded to misbehave in general. Betsy was so great, she had my daughter sit on my lap and face me while she got a much needed trim. She was quick and got her hair done so my daughter could relax outside. This is an amazing place to bring your kids for a haircut! I drive all the way up from Killingworth to come here and it is well worth the 45 minute trip. The place is clean, child friendly and the staff is wonderful. My 2 little girls see Angela and she is amazing. She is so patient with the girls and does a stellar job with their hair cuts. I came here because I won a gift certificate. I could tell she wasn't listening to me and I repeated myself three times. She completely messed up my son's hair and was extremely rude and cut me off. She told me a cut couldn't be done but my son gets it done at his place all the time. He was in and out in 12 min. My son's barber averages an hour of chair time - that's how meticulous he is for the same price! She left hair all over his face because she was upset with me. I never complain but this place was a joke. The place is disorganized and rushed everyone out. They were unapologetic and the customer service was horrible. My son was so upset. I was not very happy with this salon. My first experience was a week ago, I called on a Saturday morning and asked if they had any openings or if they did walk ins. The girl on phone said they were booked up until about noon. I asked if We came after 12 could we be seen? She said yes, We drive 20 minutes there and they say they are booked for the day and wouldn't be able to see us. Someone had recommended this place so i decide to call and make an appointment a few days later and go today. First off, the lady who cut my sons hair didn't even introduce herself so I don't even know her name. Second, I didn't feel she was to friendly, for a salon that specializes in kids..I would of expected more energy or enthusiasm. Third, the car chair that my son was sitting in, (he's 1 and a half) had a screw sticking out of the steering wheel. I felt like I had to hold my hand over it the whole time because if he threw himself forward he could hurt himself on it. Lastly, I wasn't completely satisfied with the outcome of the haircut. His lineup in the front is not straight, and the line up on the sides are not to good either. I will not be returning. read more

This visit will be my last visit to Scissor Kids. To start, my stylist reeked of stale cigarette butts. Next, instead of a friendly, "Hi, how are you today?", we get an abrupt, "What do you want for him?" After I explained my wishes for my 2 year old son's cut, a speedy 2 minutes pass and she says, "That good?" I asked her to use a 5 on his sideburns too to which she rudely replied, "Yeah I already did." I showed her how his sideburns looked fuller than the back of his head to which she replied again, "Well that's what I was trying to fix but he wouldn't sit still. You don't want him to have shorter sideburns and look like an 80s rapper, do you?" As a paying customer bringing your child to a children's specialty salon, you'd expect the stylists to be trained in techniques pertaining to kids haircuts. To end the experience, she left his head still wet, uncombed and unfinished. If I could give 0 stars, I would. read more
