I have a head of non-hair that has not needed a barber in many years. When it was disappearing, at one time, I ended up at a Truefitt & Hill in Chicago's fashionable magnificent mile. They are the World's oldest barber, and have been cutting the hair of royalty and world leaders every since. It was outrageously expensive. Most importantly, they offer a level of class, treatment, and skill par excellence. I bring that up because that's the kind of place Scissor and Bone aspires to. I've had nothing but the best experience there. Since my wife decided I needed a full beard, I've needed good trimming skills, and I'm willing to pay the extra few sheckles for the rest of the treatment. My barber also gives me a pro-rated cut for what little hair I have left. Highly recommended. Beasley may be around to welcome you as well. That's an added bonus. read more

I wanted to like this shop. I really did. It was super easy to get an appointment online and on short notice. I hadn't been there before so didn't pick a stylist. I was very happy when waxing ears, nose, and eyebrows were included in the cost. That's a uncommon and cool upgrade. It was a warm welcome but after that ehh. The stylist was nice but she wasn't about to listen to what I wanted. She told me my part location looked silly and wanted to move it way down. After some discussion she said that she'd compromise with me about where the part went. Really? Like I said I wanted to really like this place, but it wasn't a good experience. I got a bit irritated with the lecture and was a bit condescending. And the upselling was nonstop. I walked away paying a lot for a haircut I didn't like and not liking the experience. read more

I'll start with the massive caveat that you should not go here if you know what haircut you want. Most of us get haircuts that aren't perfect for our face shape/hair type/age/job/etc because there's an image our heart is set on. This place may give you a different haircut. It will likely look better than what you wanted, but you won't agree with that if your heart is set on something else. That being said, this place was almost exactly what I needed, so I'm giving it 4 stars. It's not a 5 because the price is a little unreasonable and they tried to upsell me on their own products and wouldn't tell me what type of products they were so I could look at alternatives. After the barber I'd been going to for a few years retired I ended up searching for a new one and found myself at Scissor & Bone. I've now been getting my hair cut by Stephanie here for the last year and it's always been fantastic. Your first appointment they go into a lot of detail about hairstyles that work with your head shape and hairline. They also teach you how to style it yourself so that when you go home you can make it look good. That was always a complaint about hair cuts for me, it would be styled great at the shop and then i could never repeat it at home, so i love that they go the extra mile and teach you how to do it. They also have great product for washing and styling your hair. It can be a bit pricey but it lasts a while and is high quality. The shop itself is super cool and got a great vibe. A huge open warehouse kind of feel with a couple awesome motorcycles in the middle that are being worked on/rebuilt. I drive pretty far out of my way to have Stephanie cut my hair because the experience is so good. I couldn't recommend this shop or her more. read more

If I find a place on yelp, I feel a little obligated to leave a review after trying it out. My son had long hair and needed a cut. He loves having longer hair and in the past we have had bad luck with his haircut looking too feminine. He has thick hair too so it's hard to cut it right. He had a haircut today from Zaxter (I think that name is right ) and it was the best haircut experience he has had so far. Zaxter has longer hair also so I think he understood my son more than most people. He was so friendly to my son and gave him a great haircut. It was exactly what we were looking for. And he gave me advice for styling it which was so helpful! When we got to the car my son said "Next time I get my haircut can I go to the same guy?" Haha. So cute. I guess it's a little pricey for Utah standards but we are from California so it seemed reasonable. Plus my kid gets a haircut once every 18 months so it's fine to pay more and get a good cut. read more

Friendly people with higher than average hair knowledge, inviting/stylish atmosphere. I just can't justify paying $50/cut plus product and tip. They cut me a deal to make sure I was happy, and they are better than anyone else at that price. Although, I did ask for one style and was suggested to go a different route which I willingly agreed to. Needless to say I went to a cheap Barber shop a week later to get what I originally wanted. Due to the experience I had I couldn't give any less than 4 stars. I was truly cared for. But 1 star short due to it being out of budget for the cut I received. Overpriced and the owner is rude. Spent almost over 400 on a facial with micro, haircut and product. First of all i thought a licensed esthetician would be performing my facial because only a licensed esthetician can do micro....but no my stylist did. I want to make this clear from the start, this is a review of Mark, not Scissor and Bone. If I could, I would rate Mark a 2.6. Three stars, to me, implies they did an OK job. They did an EXCELLENT job the 1st time I saw them, on the return visit, not so much. On this visit I accidentally arrived to my appt 1 hour early. My fault entirely, I hung out until my appt time. Mark let me know I was an hour early. I then told him I wanted a mohawk, previosuly I had a business cut, and they typically take just under 2 hours. Mark understood and said, "Cool, I'll come get you." When it was my turn I showed Mark pictures of the style of mohawk I wanted. Mark begins to tell me that he advises against it, stating that it's not professional and it's a pain to style. Both of which I already know, I've had a mohawk before. Secondly, my bosses boss approved the mohawk and actually encouraged it. I let Mark know about all of that and they started to come up with excuses as to NOT cut my hair. It was then that I started to leave. I came for a haircut, it was clear that I was not going to get one, so I left. Mark tells me that he was not going to charge me for the appt. I wouldn't of paid regardless of their cancellation policy, which is, "OUR CANCELLATION FEE is the price of the FULL scheduled service. YOU ARE PAYING FOR OUR TIME, NOT THE SERVICE." I am not upset because I wasted my afternoon on 2 barbers and 1 haircut. I am upset because Mark knew I wanted a mohawk and waited till I was in his chair to tell me that he wouldn't do it because it wasn't "trendy, not in style, and nowhere even near trend", his exact words. I went to Mark the 1st time because I wanted his opinion on my haircut. But the second time? Not so much, I wanted his expertise in cutting hair. His personal stance and principle is worth more than getting paid I suppose. I won't be returning. I'm going to miss this place, as it was a great haircut if you want no say in your own hair. Love this barbershop! I have come here for the past 4 or 5 months and I think Talley does some great work. The first time I came in, he asked me what I wanted and how I wanted it to look over all. We talked about what would be the most flattering and after he cut my hair he taught me how to style it to look the best each day. He has some SERIOUS talent and is always using the most cutting edge techniques. His fades are always incredibly flawless and because of that I don't have to get my hair cut every two weeks--it lasts about a month to a month and a half. Talley is also just a super cool guy. The Intro: To be completely blunt, every haircut I had prior to seeing Talley might as well have been a bowl-cut. I went into it feeling like 'Beans' from Even Stevens and emereged victorious feeling like a chubby-but-still-desirable-Fabio. Further touching on my Fabio comparison, I feel like if it was in the cards, I could be well on my way to winning a "slashie award" for best model/actor (and not the other way around). Make no mistake about it, this is not hyperbole or exaggeration; these thoughts and feelings actually crossed my mind. The Barber: First off, if you don't already see a Barber, you are missing out. If you still go to Sports Clips to pick up on or more appropriately "creep out" the hair-dressers, I promise, you will be much better off going to a barber who is trained specifically on how to cut and style MENS hair. Your hair will end up looking much better and you won't leave with the false-hope that the girl at Sports Clips was into you---Cause she wasn't, don't kid yourself. The Shop: When I first pulled up to Tally's shop, I was a bit lost 'cause it is in a residential neighborhood, in a little bungalow behind his house. Once I realized I was in the right spot, I went back to his shop and was immediately impressed with how rustic and not over-the-top modern it was. The thing I love most about his shop was how personal it allowed my experience to be. He wasn't distracted by other barbers or people in the room because it is just you and him. This made for some great conversation, which made my extremely detailed, hour-long hair-cut go by really fast! I never once had the thought, "man, are you done yet?" Tally is super personable and really just makes you feel comfortable, like you have been friends for ever. He is the type of barber where if I ever became a politician or wanted-criminal (not sure if there is a difference, there) people who wanted me dead could go and potentially extract information as to my whereabouts or personal life. This could only be done through extreme measures of course, because Tally wouldn't break otherwise, if at all---I'll go into more detail about how I came to this discovery of his integrity at the end. The Haircut: Like I said earlier, I was very impressed with the attention to detail Tally gave my cut. I have yet to find any loose or stray hairs that were missed. At the very beginning he was quick to define what type of hair and head-shape I had and educated me on what this meant for my tailored-haircut. During the process he always asked questions before cutting certain areas and made sure I was ok with what he had in mind. The type of hair cut I have is long on top, short on the sides. However, because my hair sticks strait up Instead of laying flat, a "hard-part" (hair shaved short all the way to the top where the short hair meets the long) has never looked great on me; he noticed this about my hair before I had the chance to tell him, and told me my hair would look better with a natural part (hair a little longer on upper sides so it lays down). I knew this about my hair but completely forgot to tell him, thankfully he noticed and saved me from hating my haircut. Every single hairstylist I have been to always just does a hard-part before asking if I want a natural part, so I could tell at this point he was definitely trained to tailor people's haircut to how their hair grows. The Styling: I have never had someone cut my hair that knew the best possible style for my hair, before asking questions. Tally not only styled my hair but he taught me how to do it myself also, which is huge because my hair is really hard to manage. He showed me how to brush and blow-dry my hair so it looks the same every time (hard to do when you have long hair on top). He showed me how to make my hair have volume instead of just mashing it back and forcing it to look a certain way. My hair now looks like it naturally lays down the way I want it instead of looking forced. The outro: To sum everything up, I plan to stick with Tally until I move, die, he dies, or if I become a burn-victim and lose the ability to grow hair on my head. He really embodies everything that a barber should be, affordable, personable, and knowledgeable. To finish off, I wanted to touch on his integrity, like I mentioned I would earlier. When I went to his shop I wasn't planning to spend an extra $40 on a brush or pal made and I asked him if he would be okay with a $5 tip. He was super okay with that and didn't make it weird at all, however I made a mistake and tipped him $40 instead of $5. I didn't even realize this until I got home and saw a text from him that said, "Hey Tyler... You tipped me heavily after we talked about you not giving me a big tip, I just wanted to make sure that wasn't an accident. Did you mean to do that?" That is why I know Tally is someone with integrity and someone who I can trust with "dangerous secrets" . Thanks again Tally! You are the man! read more

Wow I'm a satisfied customer. Here's the whole story: I went in with a lot of expectations, hoping to have them really help me find the right cut for my hair type and stuff, but the barber that I got the first time was way distracted and I could tell he was just going through the motions. Not a good experience, however, Tally the owner contacted me soon after and explained that the barber was going through some personal things and apologized on his behalf. That barber was let go, and I went back to get my hair cut by May. She is a really down to earth person and did an amazing job. Then Tally taught me how to style my hair and touched it up a little bit. The service was freaking amazing - these guys are awsome! This is literally the best haircut I've ever had. He talked about what kind of hair I have and the pros and cons of it being the way it is. The time taken to teach me how to style it properly was a huge plus, as it was tailored exactly for me. They are very friendly and professional, and know what they are doing. You could tell he cared about me liking the style I'd get.
