I recently needed a last minute haircut for family pictures. My normal hair stylist was not available. I booked an appointment with Derrell's Barber Shop, but I was somewhat apprehensive going to a new place one day before family pictures. They did an amazing job on my cut. VERY disappointed in the beard work I had done. The lines on the top of my beard weren't even at all, maybe a difference of a quarter of an inch in height. The guy also took a chunk out of my right side. The left side looks totally fine, but the right side is messed up. Normally I'd go back to have them fix it but I honestly don't trust them enough so I will either fix it myself or go somewhere else. The only reason this isn't getting one star is because the fade on the side of my head was great. I'm just super pissed about the beard. read more

In my quest to find a good barber I found Marshall. The fact is he's such a good barber that I followed him from a Barber shop in Daybreak to his new home here in Orem. I've said it before on other review sites and I'll say it again, I'm confident Nick Price must have received his letter to Hogwarts when he was 11, because the man is a genuine wizard with a straight razor and scissors. The place is phenomenal, as well. They've got both barbers that can be scheduled for your convenience, and usually three other barbers taking walk-ins all day. Everyone gives the same quality eye and time to each cut. Not to mention the atmosphere is the coolest; an old-time gentlemen's barbershop with good conversation and an inviting setup. I can't say enough about Derrell's Barber Shop. They've got my business for life. And the rates are supremely reasonable, for how much time and attention they (Nick especially) puts into each cut. I've been to about every barbershop in Provo and Orem, and by far this is the best. If you've got hair and it grows, you need to get it cut at Derrell's Barber Shop at least once. read more

This is my fourth time coming to get my hair cut here. Ironically, I was looking for a good barber shop on Yelp when I discovered this joint. I love that they offer online booking for your haircuts. Of course they have five barbers, by you can only do your online bookings with J.P. which is fine because he has so far done a great job with my hair every time. I feel, as a man, in the Provo/Oren area you generally have two options--really cheap like Great Clips but you aren't really ever sure how you OR somewhere like the Man Barber which is super trendy, appears to give great cuts, and also costs quite a bit. That's why I was so glad to find Derrell's! They have so far given me exactly what I want, and I find the price still to be reasonable. It's $20 for a haircut which includes a straight shave around the neck and edge of your cut. This most recent time I was charged $25, so I'm not sure if their prices went up or if I was given some extra mysterious thing. All in all, I am definitely going back to Derrell's, and I will continue to recommend it to my friends and anyone that requires an affordable haircut/is blinging on a budget. read more

Ive been coming here the last year. I get a medium-low skin fade everytime and Paul Makenson knocks it out of the park. By far the best skin fade I've gotten in Utah. I used to get skin fades in the marine corps and finding a barber to get it done without making your head look like a staircase is annoying to do. Im glad I found Paul after a few barbers butchered my hair up around here. The shop is clean and the other barbers are professional and also seem to do a good job. You make some weak suggestions about what you think will look good on your dome, and he will turn that water of a suggestion into a fine wine of a haircut. In the land of beauty schools that take 3 hours do to make your head look like it was caught in a lawn mower and hair chop shops that last no more than 6 months and take only 5 minutes to give that lawn-mower-look, this is the man-hair oasis! It is relaxed, friendly, and above all, a good haircut. I haven't felt as comfortable in any of the places in Orem or Provo as I have at Darrel's. the prices aren't bargain basement, but they shouldn't be, because those places don't care what you look like when you leave. That being said, 15 bucks is a great price, and I think it should be 20, so I tip to 20. All of the barbers working here were very knowledgeable and experienced. Derrell also has a lot of barbering related wisdom to offer if you are interested in that sort of thing.
