The chicken Parmesan tasted like it came from the Lower Ragu Region of Italy and then flown on a chicken plane to Columbus only to mistakenly be taken to the city dumb. Have enjoyed the slots at SD for several years, but when I went last night it was terrible! Place was filthy! Many stalls in restrooms were out of order, paper all over the floors, no toilet paper in many stalls that were open, soap dispensers broken or empty, no paper towels, and electric hand dryers not working. In the casino, empty bottles and drink cups left around, multiple drinks piled up at individual machines....used to be you could barely finish a drink without someone coming to pick up your empty, but now it's he opposite. Outside smoking section was totally disgusting. Not going back anytime soon! read more

Slots are TIGHT since hotel was built, grandstand has been out of commission all harness racing season due to falling concrete not sure why it hasn't been repaired yet , maybe are waiting to pay off the hotel first. You would think they would have noticed that problem long before racing season and addressed it. I do like the addition of the outdoors are with a bar but won't be coming as often as they have surely tightened up their slots. read more

Came from out of town to play. Wanted to use ATM machine to get more money to play. Had brought cash that the machines took all of...not one ATM machine would take my card but for double the fee the desk could run it. Decided to call it a day and my husband and I left. Seriously this is THE best casino (and I have been to many casinos between here and Las Vegas!!!) Its not the most elaborate casino--but that's ok because I'd rather win some money than pay for expensive landscaping and water fountains (cough, cough--Hollywood where I lose my butt (every.single.time!). More often than not we end up winning. And big!! We've got at least a dozen 1099s since September from this place!! And not just the $9 and $10 dollar a pull machines but also win a lot on the dollar slots on the outside patio/gaming areas. And their free play offers are amazing!! I get between $225 and $300 a week. Yes I have a Presidents card and play a lot but to compare I get as good if not better offers from here than I do at Bellagio Las Vegas with a Platinum PC there which is a comparable players card rating. Staff here is friendly overall. My host is very nice. I drive all the way from Delaware Co/Olentangy 2-3 times a week because it is fun and overall I win. Also get $20 a week to eat (Brew Brothers restaurant is good!!) and one free hotel stay per week which I'll save for friends and family who come into town. read more

Was a pretty decent place until "shift manager" More started harassing me every time I go in now. One day I was recording with my mother on a Thursday my slot play, even told slot attendants and the cage staff I was recording my play all day no-one told me I couldn't. So I go back the following week and 3 machines in I'm approached by this really mean blonde lady demanding me to stop recording, explained that I was not told by anyone that I couldn't the previous week made an excuse that the staff I spoke with didn't know the policies. (in Ohio it is legal to record as long as there is not a general expectation of privacy.) She claimed it was private property, she probably most likely meant it is privately owned, big difference in the two, anyways I asked to see a copy of their written policy that said I cannot record, it doesn't exist according to the Ohio Casino Commission the racinos as they are referred as are supposedly required to follow all state and federal laws. She then threatened to call the cops on me simply because I asked to see a written policy that doesn't exist, 3 other staff also looked for around an hour for this policy but no one could find it. She claimed it was due to a contract with the slot manufacturers whom I contacted and stated no agreement exists. So after I get information back from the OCC and OVLT I go back in again to record since the policy doesn't exist and was confirmed it doesn't exist then immediately when I enter she follows me around and as I sit down at my first game about 5 spins in security comes up to me and tells me to stop recording again, then she comes up to me and I explain that I was in contact with OCC and OVLT and explain everything, then rudely she writes on a paper "DO NOT RECORD game play. Taking pictures of wins is fine. ~Shift Manager More" and tosses it in my face and said how's that for written I simply stated it doesn't make it public facing and her response was it never will be. She is one of the most unfriendly humans I have ever met in my entire life. read more

They have great seafood buffet at 5pm Friday nights. The snow crab legs are so fresh and very big. Almost as big as king crab legs. There are several very good shrimp dishes too. Their soups are not bad. They do have lobster craws but taste a little dry. As to prime rib, the meat quality is very good but taste so so. Overall, their seafood are much better than other dishes. I will suggest everyone go there on Fridays for their seafood buffet instead of other nights. The price is $30. You can join their membership at the same day and pay $27 instead. They have free shows at the Bar area on Fridays. So you can go to the bar watch the shows after your nice meal. read more

I haven't been to a lot of casinos but comparing this one to the one on the West Side I liked Scioto Downs much, much better. Parking and access is much easier with a single level parking lot instead of a multi-level garage and elevators to fool around with. The few times I've gone the pace and noise levels are such you can actually converse with who you went with. Between the machines and not great live music blasting from multiple live music sources, the jarring noise levels at the West Side Casino about fried my nerves. You probably aren't going to get rich here, LOL, but you can have some fun without losing your shirt if you watch what you're doing. If you are really disciplined you might even leave with a few dollars more than you came with once in a while. I thought it was fun and something different. For the Casino and Track I give Scioto Downs 5 stars. The Grove Buffet however is a Zero Stars. The flavors aren't so bad and everything tastes like it might have been good when it was fresh but so far (two visits) nothing I have sampled has been fresh and is always either cool, greasy, or congealed. I'm not a food expert but either they are making food that doesn't lend itself to a buffet or the warming equipment just isn't working properly. I almost never see fresh food coming out either and both times I went were on Friday nights so I was surprised they didn't have their "A" game going. It's a shame as they have some very nice folks on staff, everyone is always super pleasant, but the food is not good at all and certainly not worth $20.00. read more

Worst food. Quality of the food is poor and presentation is non existent. Some of the food is cold and how does this pass health inspection ! Soups hAve no taste and some are thrown together from buffet leftovers. The Swai fish is hard and crunchy. The Pizza is the best item if you can get any. There is never an abundance if this! Since this casino can only offer a person good, this should be the best ! There is no excuse for the poor quality of the line items and their taste. My wife and I went enjoyed our trip to the Scioto Downs Racino Buffet. We were out from looking for a place for lunch. We stopped here and discovered a reasonably priced buffet. I have no complaints about the quality temperature or selection so the food. Everything was tasty. The wait staff and the servers at the stations were all very friendly. Everything was clean. I thought that it was a good deal. Since I'm not a gambler, I didn't lose any money. My wife played five dollars on the penny slots and won eighteen. I go here and wheelingdowns.. we've hit about 15 / 20 different casino and I like ElDorado the best .. I've never found the staff to be rude , The Buffett isn't the greasiest sometimes but very acceptable .. New machine seem to pop up quite often and the rest are 99% in working order .. I've never seen the restroom dirty .. sometimes the pop stations cups and coffee supplies run out but kept of nicely most of the time ..The hotel is great.. The new restaurant is pretty good But really could use some different things on the menu. ( bring back the ribs please ) .. I Highly recommend this place read more

Whenever I go to Scioto Downs I stay away from the racino. The bastardized casino games aren't nearly as entertaining as enjoying a beer on a nice evening with some exciting horse race betting thrown in. The grittiness of the outdated surroundings and the people bring back the nostalgia of summer nights here as a kid, and my kids enjoy it too. I've never bothered to step foot into the clubhouse so I can't rate that. The beer and food (concession stand hot dogs, pizza slices, popcorn...) are overpriced which prevents me from giving a higher rating. read more

Four stars namely because of the lack of anything other than slot machines. We did the New Years special in the clubhouse and that was pretty great. 2 filet and crab cake dinners and two bar drink coupons each for $75. Best of all, the meal was great though. The steak, mashed potatoes and asparagus were all done well. The desert was also very good. Only disappointment with the meal was the salad which was already on the tables when we were seated all had onions in them. Yuck. Only other complaint is 3 bartenders for a crowd of maybe 100 or more all with free drink vouchers--that wasn't thought out well, and the wait was stupid ridiculous. read more

Updated review. Bathrooms are dirty and smell like a sewer. How about s that a building this new can have plumbing problems? I think they try to save water and don't slow the urinal to flush enough.... so the bathroom smells like piss. You can even smell it in the casino on some nights. As far as pay outs go, you win sometimes and you lose sometimes . We always go home with money because we are smart enough to pocket winnings instead of playing down to nothing. This place has really improved since I was here as a child. It is what you expect it to be, an outside horse track with a video casino added on. We had a fantastic time the Friday that we visited, aside from the fact that we never won a bet, but it was something different and fun to experience. Scioto Downs is a fun way to gamble. I recommend going all out and watching the races from inside the clubhouse. The stands are less comfortable and can get rowdy in a beer and pony induced way. Inside the clubhouse you are seated with a nice air conditioners view of the track. They also provide small TVs at each table so you can watch your horse run all the way around. Entrance includes a booklet containing the line up for each race and stats. The lights dim when the race begins and is sounded by the typical trumpet. The food in the clubhouse is not great. I usually go with the buffet and end up wishing I had just ordered a la carte. Liquor is not high end here, so expect to settle for well. Service also is sub par and often cranky. Scioto Downs is exciting whether your horse wins or loses. Race time gets noisy because everyone is screaming for their horse. Its impossible not to get caught up. read more

I'm a frequent customer, I do win not any big jackpots, but enough to keep me coming back. My biggest complaint is I only get $25 in free play the last couple months, always use my players card and as often as I go don't understand why I don't receive more free play. Since they've opened I've probably been there 200 times or more. I have a gold card but never upgraded because I've never had a handpay. My other complaint is I mostly go in the daytime,so I drink coke and I'm a smoker,so why is there no pop machine outside. And why are there only 2 pop machines in the whole casino. Doesn't matter if I'm indoors or outdoors if I'm winning on a machine and want a refill, it's rare for a waitress to come along. If I drink alcohol I always tip good but that doesn't seem to matter, I always have to go to the bar for my second or third drink. We were frequent visitors here (1-2 times weekly) until this summer. I was a little upset when the Dash cafe removed the complimentary cappuccino and hot chocolate quite a while ago, I enjoyed the hot beverages during the cooler months since I am not a coffee drinker. We made weekly visits to the Brew Brothers, which was always good. This past week we dined at The Clubhouse, and it was AWFUL! Worst food ever and overpriced to boot! Cheese on the nachos was not melted and there were about 3 bites of pulled pork on my sandwich, served on a soggy bun. It was terrible and we should have sent our meals back once they arrived, but we were hungry and wanted to watch the horses. Will never eat there again, as I was sick when we got home. Back at Scioto last night. Saw a fantastic concert and enjoyed the evening. These folks get it and know what they are doing. Great crowd, great service and if you ever get a chance to see a concert here do it. Racing is back as well! Just need some card tables and this place would be pretty darn perfect. read more
