I've been coming to Scioto Downs for years and it never disappoints. Stopped in for what was supposed to be a quick visit and somehow ended up having one of the greatest gambling performances in recent Ohio history. Spent most of my time on the Frankenstein slots ("more power!"), which have apparently become my emotional support machine. Between that and my horse absolutely crushing it at the track, I was starting to wonder if I should quit my day job and become a full-time racing and slots analyst. A special shoutout to Rosie at the High Limit Bar, because I refuse to play low limit machines. Rosie provided truly exceptional, phenomenal service all night and made an already great experience even better. The casino is clean, the atmosphere is fun, and there's always something going on. My wife and son had such a great time that we'll definitely be back for his 24th birthday on July 30th. Five stars. Frankenstein was spinning ("more power!"), the horse was winning, Rosie was delivering elite service, and for one glorious evening I felt smarter than the casino. read more

Not a big casino person. But I am a big food person, and there are several restaurants down here. So I knew eventually I would try them out. And I knew eventually I would come to Scioto Downs at some point. I always wanted to come here, ever since we drove past it in its original guise when I was a kid on the way to family get-togethers. I wasn't into horse racing or anything, but the idea sounded interesting, and later in life, I knew people that came down here, and one who was a jockey. But I just never made it down. And then when it became a casino, there really wasn't a draw there for me. It's pretty big, but not huge as far as casinos go. The hotel and the restaurants are on the northern end. The inside is a pretty standard casino, with flashing lights, and noise, although it's really not as noisy and jingly as some of them are. Pretty decent music playing most of the time, interrupted every once in a while by someone saying "I want money!" Or maybe "I won money!" But on the whole a pleasant enough atmosphere without being the sort of casino carnival you often see. Well, there's plenty of that still. But not overwhelmingly so. There are what they call open air terraces, covered outdoor areas with chairs and tables and sometimes slot machines. The one at least has a bar out there too. So, you can pull the handle outside in nice weather, or on a gray 20 degree day. There are free drink stations in one or two places inside, which you might want to keep in mind before you go eat. Food ranges from basic to brewpub to somewhat upscale Italian. Staff were friendly. You can spend a lot of money here if you want to. Or you can just come eat like I did. Not far out of town, plenty of parking. Apparently, they still have racing out back, although I didn't see it, and that's probably only on weekends in good weather. But they do have screens inside showing other horse races, and other sports. And it looks like betting facilities for those things. I don't know, I'll keep an eye on their schedule, maybe they have musical acts or something to come see. read more

I'm from the *DEEP* south and visited friends for a week in Columbus. They took me to this Cafe. First, let me say the food is delicious. We ate there three different times that week. Brandon the manager took care of us the first two times and remembered our faces after each visit. That is, im sure, no easy task seeing as many faces as they do daily. He made sure when I asked for a grilled cheese with EXTRA pickles cooked in between two pieces of cheese and two pieces of bread that I got exactly what I asked for. No other place understood the concept, not even sonic. I'm a people watcher, and as I watched Brandon and his employees, I was impressed. He is engaging, charismatic, and very helpful. I watched him work the register, check on customers, give food to customers... ask to refill their drinks as he walks through the dining area... I spoke to several other patrons during my visits and they've all said the cafe has really "turned around" since Brandon has worked there, they all said it used to be not nearly as good and upscale as it is. I could see his efforts and they were appreciated. That buffalo chicken sandwich?! Dude knows how to make a southern girl happy... I tried to convince him to move down south and work, but he assured me he was happy right where he is. I don't know how what you're doing to keep him there, but it isn't enough. So first off, this place is pretty bland in comparison to the casinos in California where I was visiting from... All the employees except maybe TWO were like that "do you have dry eyes" guy from that commercial lol no personalities and maybe it's just how the Ohio "vibe" is idk. I'm really glad I ended my visit here at the cafe because it really made it end on a good note. There was one worker who really stood out to me as he almost effortlessly made me feel like we were old friends. He had me laughing and joking with him the first 5 min of the initial introduction and I found myself enjoying myself without even realizing it. He seems to really enjoy what he does and he's good at it! His food he made me even tasted better than my friends but that could just be because of the whole experience with him was enjoyable lol he's definitely an asset to this place they don't even know! After a long day of gambling I decided to grab a bite to eat. My friends and I decided on 'Dash cafe. We where greeted by the manager Brandon with a nice smile and great energy. He took and cooked our meals: 2 triple dash burgers and An Italian Sub all under 10 minutes. IMPRESSIVE! . We where all visiting from Canada and was staying at the hotel for a couple of days. SINCE WE WHERE AFRAID TO EXPLORE THIS AMAZING CASINO BECAUSE WE MIGHT GET LOST. BRANDON TOOK HIS BREAK AND BECAME OUR PERSONAL TOUR GUIDE. As I entered the front doors, an employee spotted my water bottle in my mobility scooter basket. They wouldn't allow me to take it in. They made me throw it in the trash or leave. The bottle had a locking twist top so it did not leak. In order to drink water, I had to use their open top paper cups. It's hard to steer my scooter with one hand so I ended up spilling water all over myself. I haven't been back since. I used to go every other month or so. read more

Visit the Grandstand recently. It's a work in progress. They staff their concession stand with well seasoned bartenders. Who work well under pressure. My wife and I befriended one of the employees (Brandon) I remember asking him if my wife and I can get two cups of coffee. He replied "no we don't sell coffee at the Grandstand but if you guys can give me a minute I can run inside and get you two cups.' Sure enough he did just that. What's with the parking lot on the south side ? why are you saving the spaces for "special" guests when they are all empty and threatened with tow if used unless you have a "special" permit? if they are so special give those customers valet parking!! They know they are special and will tip well. all the handicap spaces were full and the 12 EMPTY spaces just sat there. I don't know who the genius is that thinks up some of these dumb things but they need a brain check. you tried to block off the parking lot a while back and had to remove it. Came here for a work event. This place was awesome. I loved the horses and even placed a few bets. The casino was super nice and clean. Played a few slots but didn't win like usual. Had a good time and enjoyed the place. Will make sure to bring the wife next time and let her lose more money. We will have to try the food next time and hope they have some onion rings or pizza. read more

Slots are okay. Most were working this time but The Dash restaurant was so understaffed and the staff that was there was inefficient. I have been going to this casino for several years, but for some reason, in the last six months or so, the restrooms are filthy! They use to offer seat covers, but they no longer have them. Recently, some genius thought it was a great idea to reserve a huge number of parking spaces for their most prized customers. This was done in three of their parking lots. I have been there 20-30times since this change. I had been there on weekdays, weekends, morning, noon night. I thought Hollywood casino was the only one in town until my family took us to Eldorado. We chose to eat at the Brew Brothers and it was excellent! The size of the fish were so large that we brought back an entire piece for the next day. I'm not the kind of gambler that will sit at a machine until I'm broke or rich. When the dollars get up there a little, I stop. Came ahead and felt good about it. Eldorado Scioto Downs is a much better example of a casino than Hollywood Columbus. It's still not great or even good but it's more fun. This is a good way to bring in people when there isn't horse racing. It has a bar and restaurant attached with varying quality. The casino is why people come here though. If you have been to the other casino in Columbus you may think it's not any good. This is an improvement because the games are better and it's overall more pleasant. It has a much safer atmosphere. There isn't so much riff raff. It's saying something about the other casino that you can have a classier experience at a racetrack. This isn't as good as any Vegas casino of course so don't expect that. If you want to go to the best casino in Columbus go to Eldorado Scioto Downs. Edit: When the staff final did come the manager told me it was my fault it ate my money. Apparently I put my $50 bill in a small crack just above the ticket printer. Literally hit on the Kronos machine for 32 free spins! Half way through those spin it went into the bonus and I won 258$ plus! While being at the casino I have had two machines eat my money (2 different days) and when I called the attendant over it takes about 40 minutes for anybody to come and another 25 minutes to get information for the corporate office. To be told that I have to come back another day after they have had time to review the cameras which supposedly takes 24-48 hours to do so.
