I like my doctor, Priyanka Gumaste, but this office is poorly run. They biopsied potential skin cancer 1 month ago and never called me either the results. I just called to try and get the lab results and they have an AI (robotic) answering service that put me on hold for ~7 minutes before disconnecting me. This happened twice in a row, so I figured I would wait and call back. Now the line is busy, so I suspect the AI has left too many clients on hold. It's not for lack of staff, because when you go in there, there's a whole lot of people sitting around looking like they have nothing to do. I then went to their patient portal, which is entirely useless. You cannot select the Hoboken office or your physician from their messaging app. They clearly do not want to hear from me. My only option is either to write them a letter, or to go in there in person and demand my laboratory results. Perhaps this office is really dedicated to cosmetic money making procedures and doesn't care much about its medical responsibilities, but if you have anything serious going on with your skin, I would think twice about using this office. read more

After 4 days of intense pain, I decided to write this review. Had a breast abscess from cyst and I went to see Todd Newman the PA.. it was most brutal experience.. front desk is really cold. Nurse was very nice but awful place I won't recommend. Honestly please improve how you treat your customers when they say it's painful . PA walks in doesn't apply a numbing cream and gives an Anesthesia ok fine then starts pressing down to get infected stuff out.. I tell him it's painful and he ignores cracks joke on nurse that she is being a good labor coach. I have v v high threshold to pain but this was unreal. I come back home and have redness all over and the area is hard as rock.. I wait out for 4 days and now going to NYU ER because I think something wasn't done right. Pleasant receptionists and nurses. Not hard to get an appointment. Little waiting time. But poor quality in work. I went in for a simple procedure. The doctor was very dismissive and skirted around questions, often answering my question with a question. The area of skin got infected because he did not perform the biopsy properly. He then cleaned the infected site with little care how it would scar. I'm stuck with an ugly scar and additional medical bills. I would have been better off at CityMD. Had a lesion in my right ear. Hasnain Rangwala the PC that took care of me in the Toms River office told me it was nothing to worry about. I started to get pain in that ear and went back to him several times, still, he said it was nothing, and nothing could be done about it. After much pain and frustration, I went to my ENT who took a biopsy of the lesion and it turned out to be Well differentiated Squamous Cell Carcinoma. I had to get 30 days of radiation. I also had two lesions on my scalp which Hasnain just kept freezing and told me they were nothing. My new dermatologist did a biopsy of the two and they both came back with squamous cell carcinoma. I will now get them both removed. Hasnain Rangwala did me wrong. He is lazy and couldn't care less. Don't go to him if you value your health! read more

I had called several dermatologists to get quotes for a single skin tag removal. I was able to get a next day appointment at Schweiger. They indicated it would be a $50 copay for the visit and $45 for the skin tag removal. Other quotes I received were for around $150 to have it removed as a cosmetic procedure without insurance. When the doctor saw me she said it would be most cost efficient to have the tag sent to the lab as a biopsy and that the rest of the office visit would be covered as a consultation. In addition she froze a couple of sun spots that she said would be covered by the consultation since it was so simple. I was billed $85 after insurance covered about $200 for the lab. I then received a bill from the doctor office for two procedures for $850. Insurance covered $640 and I had to pay $210. I called the billing department to inquire if there was a mistake. They pushed me to the local office. I left a long detailed voicemail and then received a text from an assistant asking if my issue was resolved. I responded that no one had contacted me so my issue was not resolved. She said she would have the office manager call me. No one called me. I then received a late payment notice. I texted again that I needed to speak to the office manager. No one contacted me through text or phone. I ended up paying the bill as I didn't want to risk impacting my credit if they sent it to collections. So something that should have cost around $150 ended up being over $1000 to the heath insurance system and $300 to me. Live and learn. get everything in writing and don't trust anything your doctor tells you even though you should be able to. read more

My previous experience at the Schweiger wasn't the most pleasant, so I'm happy this was a better one. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. This past December, I had an appointment at Schweiger Dermatology's Hoboken location for a yearly skin check with Todd Newman. After the routine skin check, I asked about additional options for my skin concerns (the cream he previously prescribed did nothing). He listed various options --laser treatment, chemical peel, creams, etc. To be clear, he only mentioned them but we did not go into details as I declined laser or chemical peel treatments due to it being considered a cosmetic treatment and not covered by insurance. I left with a face cream prescription, which I never filled. A few weeks later, I received a bill for my yearly check-up as expected. However, shockingly, I also received a separate bill for $495 for a chemical peel consultation I never requested or received. Is merely mentioning a treatment now considered a consult? Who would willingly pay $495 for an unsolicited consultation? I called the office three times, spoke to three different people, and got nowhere. They promised to review it and call back, but no one did. Instead, I received an automated email message stating, "Thank you for your recent inquiry. Dermatology is not considered preventative medicine, but is instead a problem-oriented specialty. We therefore do not bill wellness, preventative, or annual visit codes. Your charges have been determined to be appropriate for the services received, and this balance remains due as patient responsibility." After their so-called review, they insisted it was a consult, and the bill is accurate. I had no idea that a mere mention of cosmetic procedures would result in an exorbitant fee. Needless to say, I am absolutely furious about this outrageous charge, and I will continue to dispute it. I strongly advise against seeking services from Schweiger Dermatology or Todd Newman. Brace yourself for being billed for every single word that spills out of his mouth. This experience has been nothing short of a financial ambush, and I refuse to be a victim of such deceptive practices. read more

Literally point at you to check in and don't even bother greeting. The exam room was extremely hot and had a smell to it. They had a tiny personal fan running like it made a difference lol they didn't even bother offering a different exam room even after I let them know I was extremely uncomfortable.. Jarrett Kaczmarski answered all of my questions. He was great! He listened a majority of the time but it just felt a little rushed. They were busy. Overall I'm happy with my entire experience. SHADY billing practices!! They will play games with your insurance company and try to overbill them and you. I specifically made sure that they were in network before making my appointment. This was via their website and a call with the front desk. Fast forward, after my visit and I suddenly have a bill for hundreds of dollars - way more than my plan's $30 co-pay (which I took care of on site). Upon calling them, they "sheepishly" apologize for the incorrect billing. I didn't believe them. The Dr. Gumaste and the physical assistant are friendly and knowledgeable. They gave me good care for my medical issues. However, the unpleasant shady billing practices makes sure I will not be coming back and cannot recommend them at all. I was scammed out of over 2,000 from their provider! Unfortunately, I could not leave a 0 star rating. After finding out my facial hair was due to PCOS I booked a consult for laser hair removal. I was told I had to pay then to book my appointment, but there was a package of 8 which would save me money. I told the provider I worked a busy schedule and wanted to make sure I can make their schedule before paying-I was booked two appointments so it seemed like I was on my way to feeling good again, but the appointments were for places and providers that do not offer this service. After multiple days of back and fourth, the office for the first appointment agreed to see me just once. Weeks later, my second visit was canceled because after being booked for a month they decide to tell me the provider never actually offered that service, and their customer service continues to leave me on hold and hang up on me. It is not actually possible to speak to an office representative-you just get sent to a call center. I keep getting told someone will call or text me back and they do not. Now I have to take further action with my credit card company since they refuse to give me the provided services I paid for. Seems like they are taking advantage of vulnerable patients by taking their money and making them think they can solve their problems, and then refusing to follow through. Hopefully I am able to get my money back without the route of legal action. Learn from me so they don't leave you out over $2,000. read more

I would like to say the billing department at Sweiger Dermatology is awful , I have had two situations where bills weren't sent out or the balances were badly incorrect. Most recently I was told I was 580 days past due , I mentioned to them I didn't receive any billing and I was told they had a system problem, my goodness almost 2 years give me a break . After speaking to the billing department they also mentioned the billing amount was incorrect. This is an ongoing matter that exists today , I suggest if you deal with Sweiger be aware of their incompetent billing office , question the balances and be sure they have sent out the Proper billing amount. My husband came in for appointment today at the Hoboken office with physicians assistant Jarrett Kaczmarski and had the worst experience. Doctor or PA had zero bedside manner. Basically said that if the rash is not present right now there is nothing he can do. My husband showed photos and doctor offered no solution or insight. He just said 'maybe it's hives.' Took 45 seconds to see the area. Total waste of time. Doctor walked out of room and did not even make it clear that appointment was over. Very bad experience. read more

I must admit, I wasn't too sure what to expect coming here, as I've had a bad experience at another dermatologist. This office definitely met my expectations. I must say it was an extremely smooth process from my initial call to schedule an appointment, I was given the perfect day and time that fit my schedule. The office is welcoming, clean and comfortable. Julie, was very courteous and friendly, she helped me check in and schedule my future appointment , she also gave me some forms along with an ipad (which I personally thought it was very convenient, eco friendly, less paperwork to be filled out) Parking was great but it probably was because it was on a weekend and early in the day, I must imagine that it becomes hard to find street parking with all the restaurants and bars around. The great thing about this location is that if you are coming from the city, the train is right across from the office, public transportation, as well as taxis and uber/lyft nearby. I was called in pretty quickly after I finished filling out all my information and seen shortly after I entered the room ( which I found very nice since usually at most offices you have to wait a while before anyone comes in, especially the doctor) I had a full body examination by PA Todd Newmann, he was knowledgeable, answered all of my questions and concerns. I went to have my beauty marks looked at 8/28/2021 photos were take and sticker test were done to check for melanoma. In October 2021 I received a claim against my insurance not covered for anesthesia. I called both my insurance to inform them and attempted to call Schweitzer with no answer. November I contacted my insurance again and we called Schweiger together to resubmit the missing claim information. Following my results came back inconclusive and that I would need to come back in to have my beauty marks checked again. I had a hard time contacting their office and didn't make another appointment. Their billing department "Eddie" called me (Nov 2021) to explain that their offices are NOT suppose to submit my tests to labs outside of my insurance and this was entirely their fault. He said since he was remote he wouldn't be able to help me until the next week. I called Dermtech to explain my lab was sent to them without my knowledge or consent. They threatened to send me a direct bill for $2600. I stated that this was fraudulent and if it was NOT waived or taken cared of with Schweiger that I would have to bring this to litigation. After that I submitted Schweiger Dermatology for Fraud with my insurance to be investigated. Now January 2022 they called for their $30 copay I stated until the claim against my insurance are cared for and since I didn't get the tests done I requested that I will not be paying the $30 copay. read more

My bills continued to go to the wrong address. This ended up being sent to collections. I have received no calls back regarding my questions on my bills and my bills continue to go to an address that I have not lived at in over 5 years. Schweiger also charged me cash for an appointment then charged my insurance company. I am pretty sure that is an illegal practice called "double dipping". I'd love to discuss this with someone from Schweiger, but as I stated, they don't call me back so I have no one to discuss this with. Every front desk worker has an attitude, the Doctor (Gumaste) was nice but suggested I buy products that are unable to be used by women trying to conceive. I asked to return the product (that I opened and used twice - once per week as directed) when I had a thought after seeing an ad that maybe topical skincare could potentially harm a growing fetus. When I presented this to them they agreed that I shouldn't be taking this product. I was never asked if I was trying to conceive. This is negligent behavior on their part and the least they could do is refund me my 70$ that I spent on an AHA cleanser that I can't use. Regardless if the product was opened or not (their concern is that they can't make MONEY on it) What about the potential for harm during pregnancy? oops? Great experience with Dr Todd Newman. Total length of my appointment was about 27 minutes including the check-in process, screening questions and skin exam. The receptionist at this locale was very friendly, personable and overall just made you feel welcome. The physicians aid was professional, going through my history and family history; had a cheery/great attitude! Dr Newman came in and addressed any questions I had. I'm a nervous patient in any situation so it was great to talk to a fellow BJJ practitioner; this made my experience here. His prescriptions worked like a charm in a few days and I will definitely be back for my annual exam! read more

Don't go here expecting to see a doctor- they often don't even have one in the building. I went there at the behest of my primary care doctor and the lady at the front desk made an appointment with me for one of their "physicians". 50 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, I was led into an exam room and a physician assistant (PA) came in and began talking to me. I insisted I wanted to see a doctor. He told me that their wasn't one in today. He then said "I've been doing this for 25 years and you think you're so special that only a doctor can help you?" I said that I wanted to see a doctor because that's who I made an appointment for. He then told me he can do everything a doctor can do and it is under the supervision of a doctor. But after further questioning, he meant that "supervision" is the doctor reading notes after the treatment was already was administered. That is legal in New Jersey. But it does not mean that a real doctor is physically present to approve treatments. A mid level provider was running his own doctors office. So it turns out that the confusion in making the appointment was due to the front desk lady, who was telling the patients that the physicians assistants were physicians. She insisted that "they are trained the same". Ask any MD or DO that goes through 8 years of medical school and residency and then have to pass both written and oral board exams if they would agree. Certainly not. Anyway, they told me that the actual doctor often isn't there. DO NOT GO HERE. If you are expecting empathy and excellence, do not go here. If you are looking for a practice with rude staff that cuts corners to make a buck, this is the place. This is a practice where mid level providers administer treatment independently without the consultation of a doctor. The staff are either purposefully lying to patients or too incompetent to know what a doctor is. Avoid this place. read more
