Washington Square Dermatology is across the street from the park in a lovely town house. Entering the building felt almost like I had been invited to an elegant dinner party rather than a treatment facility. Yet I was not surprised by any of this. The simplicity of my initial call for an appointment foreshadowed my experience. It was just ten days away unlike hospital-based programs where appointments were ten months away. The front desk staff were polite and professional. After providing the prerequisite clinical information, I was escorted to a clinical examination room, vitals were taken by a very pleasant and professional staff clinician and within minutes Dr. Susanna Franks entered the room; my name is Susanna, she announced herself--very casual yet professional. Paraphrasing, "What brings you to Washington Square today?" Providing her information about my medical concern, I added I had been treated by a hospital affiliated dermatologist for two years but continued to experience the same medical problem. A colleague suggested I look into Washington Square Dermatology; it received very favorable reviews, she added. (I would soon learn both she and the reviewers were right.) Susanna asked what medical approaches were used in my earlier treatment. I told her exactly what my treatment had been and without being critical, she said, "I would like to get to the cause of what you're suffering from, not just the symptoms." Susanna then preceded to outline a simple but critical treatment plan to learn what might be the cause of my malady. She added, the next time you have an outbreak call us and we will get you in immediately. I was shocked, not at the plan, but rather why my previous dermatologist didn't think in these terms. Not only did Susanna suggest a plan for the presenting problems, but she also made note of a spot on my chest that I had not been aware of. I thought she might suggest we examine that more closely in our next visit. Instead, she said--in so many words--lets biopsy that right now to rule-out any potential serious issues. I don't recall ever feeling more comfortable about treatment for anything than I did at Washington Square Dermatology. I had a consultation with Dr. Park and she was extremely thorough, spent a good chunk of time discussing my multiple concerns and immediately pin-pointing recommendations (while being conscious of potential budget constraints), and even went over my skincare routine with me. She recommended multiple procedures based on my concerns but did not pressure me into undergoing any of them (aka no salesman vibe). And she was very frank about how to get the most bang for my buck re: TMJ botox treatments, including proactively scheduling me for a 2-week follow up to see if there were any improvements with my neck/shoulder/jaw pain. The staff was also very nice and professional throughout. A lot of the negative reviews for Dr. Park seem rather biased/targeted (especially the one accusing her of racism for... being late and to-the-point?). Personally, I prefer a brutally honest/direct dermatologist over one who sugarcoats things for the sake of appearing 'nice.' In the end, it's all a matter of personal preference! read more

Upon entering the two ladies at reception were courteous and efficient. The nurse who came into check up on me and ask me the pre visit questions was organized and thorough. Bait & Switch on pricing. I am extremely disappointed in the management of this office. I went here to get my Botox done on the recommendation of a friend. Before anything was injected into my face, I asked the injector for 28 units what the exact cost would be and she told me $475 (approx $16 per unit). I agreed to move forward and had 28 units injected. When I went to check out the front desk told me my bill was $540, I told them that I had been quoted $475 BEFORE INJECTION and that $540 was not what I was told. She comes back and tells me they actually got the price wrong and refunded me $40 for the total price of $500. My friend who referred me called to complain and the front desk TOLD HER WHICH PROCEDURE I HAD DONE AND THE AMOUNT OF BOTOX I RECEIVED which is a HIPPA violation!!! When I spoke with the manager on the phone the next day and explained how I had asked before getting the procedure done the exact cost and was told it was $475 she told me their policy is that they use the original pricing and sorry that i was misquoted but there was nothing she could do since she herself wasn't in the room when i was quoted (didn't realize I needed a manager standing over me to get a price of a procedure). This entire experience has left a horrible taste in my mouth as I have never had any office not honor the price they told me BEFORE the procedure and strong arm me into paying a different amount AFTER I'd already had the work done. Alright I've been to three dermatologists for the same issue and this was hands down the worst experience. I came here by referral and also because of the Yelp reviews and I can't believe it was so off base with the rating, but I didn't carefully look into Dr. Park (who has a few negative reviews) so I'm sure the other providers here are better. I got a cold sore three months ago. It lasted two weeks, scab came off, normal situation, etc. Since then, I've had redness and inflammation plus tingling in the spot for the entire time since. I've been on antivirals, hydrocortisone cream, taken a cortisone shot, etc, and it's stubborn AF and making me miserable. I went to another dermatologist 3x who really, really helped - but it still isn't going away so I wanted to try someone new. Dr. Park was wholly unempathetic and cold. Zero bedside manner and honestly zero help. She told me it was a scar and normal and that's that. I asked if there were ways to fix the scar and she coldly sad no. I ended up bawling and there was zero empathy or I'm sorry you're going through this or anything, just rushed coldness on top of the fact she was pretty late to the appointment. I don't feel she listened to me whatsoever or even tried to solve my problem. I went to another dermatologist two days later and she was so much better. She told me this is NOT likely a scar and residual trauma and inflammation from the cold sore that just isn't going away but absolutely can and will over time, and even if there is a scar there's cosmetic treatments for it. She basically disagreed with everything Dr. Park said to just get the appointment over with. I can't vouch for the other doctors - but I would highly recommend avoiding her. Aside from that, the practice is clean and nice and the people at reception are good. But seriously what an awful experience. read more

During the quarantine I started to worry about a dry area under my brow. Through online research I believed it was just seborrheic dermatitis, but wanted a professional to confirm this. Dr Jaber said basal cell cancer as soon as he looked at the area with his magnifying lens. I started to panic and asked if there's any possibility it could be anything else. The only other option he said was "wisdom spot". That is actually a seborrheic keratosis, which is benign. I googled "wisdom spot" on my phone after the biopsy. I had lidocaine injected, and nobody told me I could have side effects or scarring. I was asked to sign my name on an iPad. I asked what I was signing, they said oh just a release to send the biopsy. Later, I requested records. They stated I was informed of potential scarring, lidocaine reactions, etc. I was not. So the biopsy was done. The young women who helped him discussed during the lidocaine injection, reconstruction of my eyebrow and nose following cancer removal. I nearly passed out. The records said a surgery called Mohs surgery for basal cell cancer was discussed with me. It was not. I spent a week feeling severe anxiety and panic about cancer in my face. (The records state I was told this cancer is very treatable and common) I wasn't told this. The results of the biopsy showed I had seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) that I had rubbed at causing a thickened spot. That's what I thought myself initially. I thought I'd be told to put cortisone on it. The person on the phone said they would be prescribing cortisone, of course. So I'm not saying this is a bad doctor. I'm saying he would have done much better to actually say the things to me that were written in his notes. Secondly, try saying I don't know what this is on your face. Let's do a biopsy and go from there. Then actually really say the inherent risks of said biopsy. Maybe offer an option to keep an eye on it and try a steroid on it. Here I am with a scar on my face, glad it's not cancer, but very unhappy with the experience. A friend if mine went to him after my experience and I just warned them to be wary if he tells them their area of concern is cancer. This is not the right doctor for me, sadly. I noted the records also said I had my scalp examined, etc. he did not whatsoever. As far as my face being examined fully, I never lowered my mask at all. Most of what is written in the record was not said. This may be standard for some doctors, but it shouldn't be! I'd love to be happy with this practice, it's a great location and very nice office. read more
